Maid Marion was one of the few shows I adored as a kid and I still love it now, keep trying to hunt the DVDs down but in my local HMV they’ve been replaced by Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen dvds, which I can only assume is some kind of hmv campaign to destroy the braincells of children everywhere.

It was the same with Shaun of the Dead really, it felt more like they were going “look at all the zombie movies we’ve seen!” then actually trying to make a movie (although admittedly seeing the Battle Royale poster make me squee with joy)

I’m a fan of Family Giuy but i’m not keen on Spaced, i’ve only seen the first series tho so i’m not sure if it’s different in the second.

I like Family Guy/s referances because they’re thrown in there, you either get them or you don’t, ‘Somewhere That’s Green’ only makes sense as a referance if you’ve seen Little Shop of Horrors, and even then it’s hardly the most memorable song.
I also don’t feel the randomness or cut-away sections take me out of the story, although that’s possible more to do with being a fan of anime, even at it’s wierdest Family Guy is nowhere near as confusing or insane as stuff like PowerPuff Girls Z.

Spaced always felt, for a show who’s appeal i’ve always heard described as “omg it’s geeks like us!” that they were trying too hard to go “look, this is a referance!” like the episode where he spends the first half playing Residant Evil and then, omg he’s quoting Residant evil at the end! LOL!!1111

That said i’m not that keen on Family Guy when it’s jokes revolve around “look a peadophile!” “look Meg is unpopular!”

I’m kinda glad if Jigglypuff’s gonna be gone from brawl, the amount of times I sat staring in utter confusion at the screen during matches with Jigglypuff and Kirby.

There does seem to be an “its been done before” feel about SF comedy with the general public, I have a feeling any new SF comedy would be accused of ripping off Who/Hitchikers.

I blame more the change in writer than change in directors for the disastor that was X-men 3, David Hayter actually seemed to know how to write decent plots and characters (maybe i’m just biased towards the idea of Solid Snake writing the x-men movies)

I’m in my first year of Japanese right now at university and the ‘basics’ of the language are pretty easy to grasp, learning kana/kanji is the most time consuming part.
The only real hurdle i’ve noticed amongst English speakers is pronunciation.

I’d assume Red Dwarf was actually fleshed out from beermat to script form tho, Who felt like they’d just photocopied the beermat.

and the Series 4 preview made me wince.

Just watched it, it was…decent.
Some bits were good, but the script had a “written on the back of a beermat” feel to it.

I like LOTR (although I’ve always had an inexplicable attatchment to the unfinished cartoon version), but I think Jackson’s best work are the Frighteners and BrainDead.
LOTR at times felt like it was long for the sake of long, and having Arwen shoved in every 5 minutes didn’t help (i’d also have preffered more Christopher Lee to the ‘its finished!…oh wait no its not’ ending(s) we got)

Haven’t seen the episode, but if she gets sucked in whilst in an act of selflessness and then everyone else spands forever angsting over her, then it’s a classic Sue trademark (unless you’re Trish from Devil May Cry, she gets away with it because the main character’d never sleep with her :p)

The problem with Mary Sue is there isn’t a real concrete definition, only behaviour that indicates Sueness, and people are more or less likely to see it depending on wether they love or hate the character.

I agree Rose is a Sue, but Mary Sue tests aren’t exactly the most reliable thing on the planet, i’ve put real people through those kind of tests before and scored over 200.

Oddly, i’ve never misheard any of Craig’s lines, then again i’m used to listening to people who speak English as a 3rd or 4th language so Craig’s practically the Queen by comparison.

my only misheard Dwarf line was in Holoship:

Nirvanah Crane: you make love like a Japanese meal, small portions..

what I heard: “You make love like a Japanese mule” even with the rest of the sentance I didn’t click it was supposed to be ‘meal’ until I read the subtitles.

I don’t see why TV series Lister would intentionally get sent into stasis, since he never went out with Kochanski to break up with her.
Also in the TV series it seems as if Lister wanted to join the Space Corps, rather than in the novels where he just wanted a quick ride back to earth.

A logical explanation could just be that Rimmer decided he wanted a better looking uniform, since there was no-one around to make him wear the official JMC one he designed one himself, after all, he invented his own salute.

I liked Blink, but I couldn’t get the thought out of my head that they were baisically playing ‘Red Light Green Light’ with evil statues.

Although it was the first episode of the ‘new doctor’ i’ve watched where the monstor of the week didn’t look like something they knocked up on Blue Peter half an hour before the show.
