Well this is a weird one, it’s still not loading when I’m using Safari but on Chrome it loads no problem?!
Ah well I’ve added Chrome for now, so I can keep up to date and get good old TOS in on a Friday.

Holly/Pree returns as a recurring character, ala Dr Pulaski in ST:TNG season 2. So ony there when needed or not mentioned when off ship in Starbug, as say for plot and budget, Holly/Preems confined to Red Dwarf.

Exploring more of the ship and addressing how Lister feels after nearly 20 years with just this group, ala Timeslides/Dear Dave and his realisation that this core team (all 4) is his family and that a return to Earth or reuniting with Kochanski would sadden him, as he’d loose his now established Family.

that’s a nice cover and some nice extras but does seem odd not having cast commentary, hopefully thats one of two pleasant surprises which were teased…

The one thing which does come to mind about the finale is The Canaries. as Hollister says in the briefing, most of you will be left behind to die. so does that mean once every ones cleared of in the Starbugs and Blue Midgets, are there still Canaries left on board with Rimmer & co, if so what ever happened to them? did they die whilst the ship broke apart whilst Rimmer got whacked by the vending machine.

Wow, seems like most of the series will be slow build up to great finale, it’s series VI all over again!

It’ll be shame if there is no commentaries, I’m sure that G&T ones (fingers crossed) will be just as good, though does seem like Dave/DVD company have dropped major clanger, surely they must know fans love the cast commentaries. would be nice if Dave did their own for episodes, ala BBC ones for Doctor Who series 2-4.

Today certianly has been day of epicness, can’t imagine how it could be topped. it’s nice to have Howard back on board, his always been key part of the RD family, it would have been odd having different composer for a regular series.

Liking the new video, Cat’s new hair is very different, may be once we see it in full effect, with costume & danny’s performance it’ll become less noticeable. Given it’s only side shot but does Rimmer have the gel look going on? In the bunk room sessions of BtE they fluffed his hair up to give it more body like earlier series, but then later in you have first footage filmed on Corrie, which he has the gel/slicked look going on. I’m intrigued to think what new image will be, would imagine either another set image or may be promo shot image of Red Dwarf itself, with a tag line. Like they did with Skelton for VII. would be nice if it was cast shot, but is it still too soon?

Nice to know we will be getting to see more parts of the Dwarf than just the BTE sleeping quarters. It does sounds like the virtual sets of BTE have been changed bacck to the classic physical ones. I hope they are up to the series V and VII standard, as they were both very good and looked great on camera.

It may be a year away but hopefully it’ll be worth the wait. hopefully if BBC continue with their current Doctor Who format with split seasons/series. we will have Doctor Who series 7(part 2) and Red Dwarf X in September ’12, it’s like Easter ’09 all over again!

I think if memory serves Life On Mars (UK) was only filmes in 16mm and they upscaled that for the Blu-Ray release with mixed results.
If the 35mm masters for the original model shots of Red Dwarf still exists from ’87 then surely they could take the detail from that to build (yet another)revised ship that matched the original or failing that, just use the original models shots form series I-IV!

Wasn’t there a mention of this footage not existing when they talked about the ships trim for BTE in the 2nd making of documentary? it’s been a while since I watched that. would be neat if the Beeb did retain that footage, as ST:TOS was shot in 35mm back in the 60’s and since then they have been able to give that the Blu-Ray treatment and I hear that it looks really good.

The high points for me of this last season Doctor Who were The Eleventh Hour and the The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang. the plotting was great in all three and you could tell SM was on form then. Couldn’t stand Vincent and The Doctor not The Vampires of Venice, those were clunkers that could have been got put by the way side. The Lodger was a good outing and had the nice mystery of the ‘upper room’. I hope that is a story which gets continued in a ater series.

Sci-fi wise it is a bit quiet at the minutes, just watched both versions of Superman 2 within the last 2 days once again and must admit I prefer the Donner cut, it’s just a stronger story and Christoper Reeve gives a better performance.

I’m really enjoying this final series, I’m loving the way it is starting to link back more to Life on Mars. it will be sad once it’s gone though :(

That is interesting after this hint in the ‘Vote for Dwarf’ new item on TOS.
“Back to Earth surprised a lot of people, and brought record audiences to Dave. The question is: where do we go from here…?” I wonder if dvd sales will be the final clincher in getting new episodes and of course a space in craig’s schedule!

I decided to risk it, as no one was baout last night. great film, the 2 hours flew by. agree that there were not enough shots of the Enterprise. must admit from some angles the new look worked. like the fact they did a close up in the front torpedo launceher ala ST II & III. very nice touch. 8/10

    >I REALLY wanted to go and see this. Then I went and had another epileptic fit at the weekend, so now I?ve got to wait for the DVD. So I?m in two minds whether to read the reviews and spoilers or not.

that’s my concern as well, after watching Revenge of the Sith, I felt pretty off, so i’m not sure if I should see this or not. if I do see it, i’ll make sure I take some one with me.

Found it a bit boring, was no way as epic as Journey’s End. the Water of Mars looks like another filler episode, until the 2 part finale that has links back to Human Nature/Family of Blood.

shame there isn’t any production subtitles, i’d thought after Bodysnatcher they might become a common feature on future dvds. they would have been good highlighting little easter egg glimpses in say the ‘Thye Walk Among Us’ shop for example.

the question that has yet be answered is, how come Red Dwarf is still about? did Ace Rimmer arrive at the end and fix the ship or this the mirror universe where the crew were trapped at the end of VIII.

it’s going to be ashort book considering he was only in I, II & VIII (inc VII’s cameo). it’s a pity he has lost the love of Dwarf, but it’s still nice that he went and supported Danny a few weeks back at court. I wonder if he will take part in the Documentary that’s being made as well or will that only focus on the 4 main players?
