Not all pieces of Unexpected Dwarf are welcome to be honest:

Hereford Crematorium during an above average sombre moment of a cremation for instance!

No longer have the theme as a ring tone and I tend to check my phone is set to vibrate at events more these days.

It did raise a couple of smiles, but a lot more frowns at the time…

The ‘ex’ Red Dwarf star, Norman Lovett
Told Naylor and Co they should shove it
    But at ‘Mania 4’
    He’ll be Holly once more
Thus, clearly he’s rising above it !

Clearly it’s a matter of principles.

He doesn’t want to be known just for Dwarf and feels he was mistreated by GNP blah blah blah…

Obviousley, if there’s a tenner in it for a signed ‘Holly’ photo or if it helps sell a book or a show then principles go out of the window..

At the very best I guess, this should really be described as a ‘currently-complete box set’, given the news/rumour/suggestion that more Dwarf is in the pipe line.

I can clearly recall some heavy/angry debate during the I-VIII releases that people feared they would release a boxed set soon after everyone had purchased the individual series DVD’s..

Little did we know then that BTE would actually happen and even more would be planned.

I’ve softened to the idea now that one day I will have to buy a re-inforced bookcase capable of carrying Red Dwarf The-Complete-Works, Hell, Mr Ellards booklets alone will fill one shelf.

Ive only seen 3 episodes but have enjoyed it so far.

Maybe the biggest problem is trying to cram the whole basic idea into a mini series though. The story is complicated which leaves little time to concentrate on developing characters backgrounds, hence we get rather shallow views of them. Clearly there’s a lot of mind bending manipulation going on so seeing an ocean vanish isn’t maybe such a big deal..

    I’m sticking with it…

Have re-watched ep 1 and now seen ep 2..

not quite as bad as I recalled to be fair..

It’s an odd mixture visually with some great effects and aliens that would be at home in the original Star Trek.
If Benny Hill ever wrote Sci-Fi, this would be somewhere near.

Loved TV Burps, I’ve only recently got into this but it’s great entertaintment.

The NTNN doco was interesting and despite being a big fan (got all the albums and books etc), I was unaware of the differences of opinion towards the end. I also assumed that Chris Langham kind of just drifted away at the time.

We never watch TV on Christmas Day and Boxing day is mostly DVD’s and Wiiing..

I was never a big fan of Victoria Wood and detested anything she did at the piano.

Confused, surprised and entertained in equal measure.

It somehow seemed a step away from the normal way of things and came across as a tad cluttered. As always, the question is, how are they going to cram in all the answers and have a satifactory conclussion in 45 minutes.

Surely any story involving the Time Lords deserves more time, but, as Andrew mentioned, maybe they’re back for good.

A world of Simms sounds familiar!

Perhaps a planet of Masters is a tad silly but it was done well and made for an amusing sight with the various states of ‘dress’.

What I’m looking forward to most is finding out why Bernard Cribbens is so drawn to the Doctor.

One of my favourites some time ago was the ‘arse’ that broke into a local cottage..

Having trashed the place and noisily alerted neighbours, he came across a bottle of vintage port. The police found him curled up on the sofa fast asleep..

Further investigations found him guilty of a mini local crime wave.

It is an interesting turn of events though..

Many’s the time that GNP have been accused of missing the boat when it comes to giving out news. The policy is (or was) always to hang fire on stuff until it was set in stone, often being beaten to the announcement by this very site (other sites are available of course).
Mr Llewellyn was publically reigned in over BTE snippets let slip in advance!

Surely, Andrew and/or Doug must be fairly sure of their facts therefore.

Having said that, the fact that Doug is working on scripts and that talks are ongoing (commissioned or not)doesn’t mean that everything is signed, sealed and delivered quite yet.

Which is what I read into Daves message really, but then, I wasn’t aware of a different draft.

Unless I’ve missed something, I cant really see what the fuss is about.

Given GNP’s previous age old policy of not announcing anything until it’s written in stone, surely this is just advising caution. At least they’ve confirmed that things are going on in the background.

It seems to me that Dave are simply doing what TOS have been doing for 10 years.

I’ll reserve my comments until I’ve read it, which I will..

It’s never going to be Douglas Adams, but hopefully in can be good in its own right

Many hated the movie, I really enjoyed it and I’m not entirely alone in that, therefore in my mind at least, it’s justified.

It’s true, I’ve been in a dark place of late, but that’s enough about Ross-on-Wye.

My post was a tad tongue-in-cheek but perhaps reflects many of my age group.

Whilst I still enjoy and partake in many activities, most of my age group friends see and discuss these activities as something they did 20-30 years ago.
These days a lot of my friends are too busy to actually get out and do something because they may miss an episode of Eastenders or the comfort of their armchairs.

I’m packing my tent and heading off for an all night party tonight (live bands, DJ’s etc), several have dropped out because the forcast is for rain tomorrow.

I dont think it’s a crisis of faith as such, more of a realisation that my age group is turning into a generation of boring old farts.

DJ for me this year is still in the balance, not because I dont want to go but we are due to go to Ireland at some stage and we cant finalise the dates due to work commitments alas.

Surprisingly there are a number of Dwarf related relationships, weddings and children largely spawned from reddwarf.co.uk webboard activity Oooh err..

However, there are no kmown statistics available for relationship breakdowns caused by the same activities.

Dimension Jump (or ‘geekfest’ as some wives/husbands/partners etc know it as) has led to major questioning and finger pointing however innocent it is in reality.

Note: the term ‘geekfest’ also applies to memorabilia, Dr Who exhabitions and any event that involves two or more people expressing an interest in Sci-Fi related content (yes, it could be a slip of the tongue over a pint down the local)..

On the bright side< sporting fans tend to fair even worse.
Sad ‘twats’ appears to be the latest lable…

Personally, I think the whole storyline was self explanatory enough in itself not to be totally reliant on the viewer having seen Bladerunner.
(Of course, being aware of BR would add to the enjoyment perhaps)

Regarding extras, in particular the documentaries. Nobody seems to have picked up on the fact that this is the first time that GNP etc have made a show with DVD’s in mind, everything that has gone before has been reliant on memory and involved scraping around for archive material. The DVD end product has spoken for itself in quality, so this should be even more spectacular and fresher. Reading the revue it’s as if it’s the same old stuff, OK, it’s a similar recipe but surely there’s fresher ingrediants and a wider range to look forward to.

Yes, I quite enjoyed it and I’m a huge original ‘Reggie’ fan.

I like Clunes and this is the kind of character he plays well. It was never going to be a direct re-make and he aint no Leonard Rossister but the potential is there.

MBB was great but very much of its time, I really enjoyed Clunes in ‘Saving Grace’ and ‘Doc Martin’ I find, is one of those comfy easy to watch kind of shows.

This had some nice touches with links to the original, personally I think, they made a reasonable job of bringing it up to date and I found it quite funny.

A lot of us ‘middle aged’ types will relate to this so there’s a definate audience for it..

Despite personally loving it all to bits, it’s probably a tad too early to count our chickens with regards to more.

Ratings wise, they seem to have cracked it and they’re certainly getting coverage of this fact. It would seem that ‘DAVE’ are delighted with events and those not interested in the kind of audience that Dwarf once attracted must have watched on in retrospective horror.

Clearly GNP and Dave have laid down the path for more and I see it as the first battle won.

Apart from the mixed reactions and certain critical doom mongering, I’m confident that everythings moving in the right direction despite a couple of slight reservations about format.

The special content has to be the finger lickingly good herbs used in the classic breadcrumb coating…

I think most peoples tastes swing towards parsley and traditional mixed herbs, I on the other hand prefer a liberal sprinkling of dried oregano. Fresh is ok but it tends to taint the wings/legs with a green tint.

Of course the major question is do you brush with milk or egg white, these days people tend to use a combination.

Hell, this is such a complicated process, there’s even the option now of grlling or oven bake, a healthier option of course to the conventinal deep fry method.

Either way, as long as it’s farm raised free range chicken used results are largely down to personal taste…
