What were they thinking including that line in, it’s about as funny as a Men behaving badly episode. July 31, 2007 at 7:00 pm in reply to: Memory Implant – Canon for the television show or an alternate version of events? #124204 TonguetiedParticipant Andrew Good point Monsieur, good point. July 31, 2007 at 6:08 pm in reply to: Memory Implant – Canon for the television show or an alternate version of events? #124202 TonguetiedParticipant That’s exactly my view Jonathan. How can Andrew think of such a thing as the dreary option 3, it’s blashphemous to AJ’s glorious gitty nature. July 28, 2007 at 8:13 pm in reply to: Valve love Red Dwarf! #124154 TonguetiedParticipant ”You?ll get that with Half-Life 4, I guess” – touch wood. July 28, 2007 at 7:11 pm in reply to: Red Dwarf theme ring tone #124152 TonguetiedParticipant It’s the same with any ringtone, and indeed, with anything you get too use to. It’s better that we let some time before, viewing, listening to again. For example If I watch Me2 today, and then again tomorrow, it’s still entertaining in a way, but not as much as if you leave it for a while, say a month, then when you come back to see it, your not like, yeah I know this word for word. Certain things may catch you out, you may laugh at something you found boring. You begin to appreciate it more if you know what I mean. July 28, 2007 at 7:05 pm in reply to: Ouroboros flashback sequence #124151 TonguetiedParticipant (Yes yes yes yes yes! I?ve said it before and I?ll reiterate: The Cat?s character was almost criminally unexplored and underdeveloped) Exactly. It’s a real shame that a good indepth exploration wasn’t made into either the Cat himself or The cat race. It would have made for very intriguing viewing. And Identity Within could have been a really exceptional episode furthering the Cat’s development. However I do also believe that that’s the beauty of the Cat and his race, most of it is left to our own individual imaginations. For example where does the Cat sleep? We all have our own ideas. The fact that sometimes, there is no hard evidence on screen for certain aspects is great. No one is wrong and no one is right, we can all let our fervent brains run loose, we can be the creators. And I like that. July 27, 2007 at 9:52 am in reply to: Red Dwarf theme ring tone #124132 TonguetiedParticipant I have the Rimmer Munchkin song for my mobile, although it gets annoying, so I constantly change from song to song. July 27, 2007 at 9:51 am in reply to: Valve love Red Dwarf! #124131 TonguetiedParticipant That’s annoying, I would have prefered a fully fledged sequel, rather than tit bits. July 27, 2007 at 9:49 am in reply to: Pete – Part 2: The Good Bits #124130 TonguetiedParticipant Yeah I suppose, but you can’t change his personality, I think it still would have shone through to some extent. I mean he could have at least thrown a line about how much he loathed spending a cell with Lister. July 26, 2007 at 7:52 pm in reply to: Pete – Part 2: The Good Bits #124125 TonguetiedParticipant I feel that Pete part deux was an above average episode, however I did like the short Holly snippets and Mac Mcdonald was a delight throughout. I found the Lister/Rimmer leaping around to be ok, however nothing too side splitting. I would have prefered to see Rimmer being more bossy with Lister, more in line with his personality from the first few series. After all, he is meant to be back to that original Rimmer, albeit with a different setting, a slight mislook doth feel. July 26, 2007 at 7:46 pm in reply to: Valve love Red Dwarf! #124124 TonguetiedParticipant Not surprising they have taste. Excellent games I must say, very innovative and gripping, a sheer delight. What we need is Half Life 3 to arrive sooner, instead of the pretty insubstancial extension games. None le less, it is nice to see that the Dwarf is being lime lighted by Valve like this. Bravo! July 26, 2007 at 7:43 pm in reply to: Cake #124123 TonguetiedParticipant So when are we going to see the original blue miget in the blackbox section Andrew? July 26, 2007 at 12:11 am in reply to: What did you prefer, Series 1-2 sets or the latter Series onwards? #124109 TonguetiedParticipant Where are you from Smeg4Brains, and how long have you been in the Red Dwarf posse lol? July 25, 2007 at 11:58 pm in reply to: What did you prefer, Series 1-2 sets or the latter Series onwards? #124108 TonguetiedParticipant Yeah more senile holly, that’s what would have made series VIII miles better. Not that it doesn’t have it’s moments mind you. July 25, 2007 at 11:53 pm in reply to: What did you prefer, Series 1-2 sets or the latter Series onwards? #124102 TonguetiedParticipant I see what you mean, he should have been brought in earlier in series VII, or at least have him more in Nanarchy. His awrite dudes was great though when he materialized at the end. but I liked the whole become a dog strategy for Lister. His try not to get crushed to death in Back in the Red extended. He should have been better written to hark back to the glory years. I love how the mirror on the early sets in Listers bunkroom doubled as a viewscreen. July 25, 2007 at 11:44 pm in reply to: What did you prefer, Series 1-2 sets or the latter Series onwards? #124104 TonguetiedParticipant Haha, good old Norman. Yeah when he became a she, Hattie came in etc. I agree the whole character was different, less practical jokes on Lister, like the Norweb federation. Change of actor made Rob and Doug write the part for her rather than retain the personality established in the earlier series. However Hattie did have her moments, even though she was a prat some of the time, like the fall when she sees Ace and when she acts up in White Hole. Most of the time though she just wasn’t the same, dialogue was obviously different, because there were just too many characters, lines had to be shared, Kryten became the expositionial man, the man of reason, while Cat was given the more dumbfounded lines that Holly would usually had.The solution in series VI was sensible, to get rid of her. Then come Series VIII, the whole problem started again, the Cat became a background character. Still Norman did shine when he had the chance in series VIII.And of course it was back to the senile familiar holly we had known in series 1 and 2. July 25, 2007 at 11:34 pm in reply to: What did you prefer, Series 1-2 sets or the latter Series onwards? #124099 TonguetiedParticipant Yeah It feels more homely, less of the danger that was heavily focused on in later series. Just those two talking bollocks, it was when dwarf was a two man gig, I love that aspect. July 25, 2007 at 11:18 pm in reply to: What did you prefer, Series 1-2 sets or the latter Series onwards? #124097 TonguetiedParticipant lol I sure love the doccos Johnathan. But no I think we are all entitled to our own opinions, and I think you have valid arguments. It’s just I feel that the officers quarters could have been used more. Like the early series, which would have been great. However I agree with you about the whole contrast the sets had with each other. Mel Bibby is a very very talented designer. Paul was great too I feel. July 25, 2007 at 11:14 pm in reply to: Rimmer’s part in the radiation leak – ”It’s a question of differentiating between guilt and culpability” #124096 TonguetiedParticipant Oh and hey, I forgot to ask, what do you think about Rimmer and the Cadmium 2 leak Ian? July 25, 2007 at 11:11 pm in reply to: Rimmer’s part in the radiation leak – ”It’s a question of differentiating between guilt and culpability” #124093 TonguetiedParticipant Thank you for your comment Ian it shall be noted. I did not say what the site should difinitively be run as, more that I feel, in my opinion that we should inject more Dwarf mythos into the mix for forums anyway. However I did not say we must do this, it was merely an opinion. After all we are all entitled to one. Thanks for enjoying the initial debated however. July 25, 2007 at 11:07 pm in reply to: Rimmer’s part in the radiation leak – ”It’s a question of differentiating between guilt and culpability” #124094 TonguetiedParticipant And of course, being perceptive enough with my name. Changed as you will. July 25, 2007 at 10:59 pm in reply to: What did you prefer, Series 1-2 sets or the latter Series onwards? #124092 TonguetiedParticipant Yeah I know, same cost, different designer, Mel Bibby, radically different way of design. I liked the Officers quarters, if it were used more for scenes with Rimmer and Lister. However as you know, the actors did not particulary like one another, and rehearsing those bunk scenes was a major problem. They just weren’t used that much Jonathan. Sure in series 3 there were some gems, like the Wilma scene with Cat and Lister. The frog description by Rimmer. The whole scoffing at night scene in bodyswap and some others. However after that, come series 4 and 5 while the boys were still on the dwarf, the officers quarters were used less and less, until it became more corridor based look at the Inquisitor. However thanks for your comment. July 25, 2007 at 10:33 pm in reply to: Rimmer’s part in the radiation leak – ”It’s a question of differentiating between guilt and culpability” #124087 TonguetiedParticipant Nope just trying to say, that these articles are just as entertaining. I have many favourites also, however series 1 is consistently great for me. The relationship between Rimmer and Lister is at it’s best. The show should have remained more focused on that aspect. July 25, 2007 at 10:27 pm in reply to: Rimmer’s part in the radiation leak – ”It’s a question of differentiating between guilt and culpability” #124084 TonguetiedParticipant Not to say we can’t have those forums about ”boobs” etc, rather we should integrate the serious fan driven articles, like this one. Which shows our differing views, our insight and so on. What’s your favourite Dwarf episode Smeg4Brains? July 25, 2007 at 10:25 pm in reply to: Rimmer’s part in the radiation leak – ”It’s a question of differentiating between guilt and culpability” #124082 TonguetiedParticipant Get use to it lol. Red Dwarf should be at the forefront for this site my friend. At least the odd serious article, call yourself a fan lol, but seriously we need these articles to keep things fresh and intriguing. July 25, 2007 at 10:22 pm in reply to: Cake #124081 TonguetiedParticipant Well arguably it is true, the record sales do not show that people prefer the original design at all. And I wasn’t disputing Corgi’s most successful items. I disagree, I believe that most fans do prefer the original, and that pretty much every one on this site does so as well. I would love to see the original Blue Miget out there too Andrew, I would also like to see it on the official Red Dwarf site instead of just the remastered form in the Black Box section. July 25, 2007 at 9:06 pm in reply to: Rimmer’s part in the radiation leak – ”It’s a question of differentiating between guilt and culpability” #124078 TonguetiedParticipant A genuine article indeed Mick. A treat for any real Dwarfer. Relish it! July 25, 2007 at 9:05 pm in reply to: Cake #124077 TonguetiedParticipant Nice cake, it’s a shame that corgi did not release the original Red Dwarf ship, I mean it was by far the best and what most fans wanted. July 23, 2007 at 12:59 am in reply to: Rimmer’s part in the radiation leak – ”It’s a question of differentiating between guilt and culpability” #124056 TonguetiedParticipant Anyhoo, I was wondering, it’s every Friday the updates on the Offical site are right? I noticed that in the Blackbox section under ships, spacecraft and shuttles it’s the remastered Blue Miget, rather than the old design, logically you would have both. Fans loved the original, it deserves to be there lol. Apart from that it’s always been a great site, easily accessible and great fun.Well done! July 23, 2007 at 12:23 am in reply to: Rimmer’s part in the radiation leak – ”It’s a question of differentiating between guilt and culpability” #124055 TonguetiedParticipant Pity, I say pity. July 22, 2007 at 5:24 pm in reply to: Rimmer’s part in the radiation leak – ”It’s a question of differentiating between guilt and culpability” #124051 TonguetiedParticipant Thanks Andrew! That was an interesting comment. It would be good if Doug and Rob could give us a final say as to what they were intending, but alas I doubt they will be accessible for such a continuity based question. July 22, 2007 at 4:16 pm in reply to: Rimmer’s part in the radiation leak – ”It’s a question of differentiating between guilt and culpability” #124049 TonguetiedParticipant I would like to hear Andrew’s views on this, as he is a Red Dwarf Official siter, it will be interesting to here what he thinks personally. July 22, 2007 at 2:31 am in reply to: Rimmer’s part in the radiation leak – ”It’s a question of differentiating between guilt and culpability” #124045 TonguetiedParticipant Yeah, thanks for the comments guys. I read something interesting in the Red Dwarf Programme Guide, third edition, on the Justice background info: ”Red Dwarf IV slight retooling of continuity continues…the number of people onboard increased etc, and Rimmer is now assumed to be not guilty of causing their deaths.” I mean if you look at the actual episode, when the justice computer states the charge as Rimmer’s failure to secure a drive plate which lead to blah blah, Rimmer does not dispute this claim; he doesn’t say, ”now hang on a minute I had no part in the technical repairing of the drive plate” No as per series one canon, Hollister blatantly puts it as ”It was your job to fix the drive plates Rimmer.” as we see in Arnolds death video. Another interesting note in my Red Dwarf Programme guide is that in several other sections, as in the crew roster it states in Rimmer’s profile: ”…and his unfortunate death, thanks in part to his own inefficient repair of a drive plate(he’d never been good at anything practical, which is why it took him five terms to make a tent peg at school.” And in the Database section of the book it states under Drive Plate: ”Obviously you’d need a brain the size of a leprechaun’s testicle etc…( as Jonsmad has reminded us) So had Rimmer been a bit more blessed with intelligence, then he might not have contributed to the leakage of Cadmium 2 that wiped out the crew.” Elsewhere under Drive Room it reads ”…It was here where Rimmer met his death, while explaining to Hollister why he’d failed to mend a Drive plate properly.” So the writers of this book either seem to be conflicting with each other over the matter, or perhaps it is a slight mislook.
