It’s Been 42 Days… News Posted by Jonathan Capps on 29th January 2016, 13:17 …since Red Dwarf XI filmed its final episode, and today Red Dwarf XII will be filming its first. It’s the shortest gap between the recording of two series by quite some margin, obviously. The production itself started ramping up last week, however, and it seems the model builds are well under way, with a new Red Dwarf bigature and a new Starbug build progressing apace. We’ve also had the now regular pleasure of learning of a new guest star early AND a fat production spoiler, all wrapped up in one, now deleted, tweet. Speaking of guest stars, Linda Glover has highlighted the fact that she is good at her job by teasing us about another great guest cast line-up. After our last two set reports provided by G&T members, we’re once again reverting back to the reliance on guest reporters. It’s our own fault for forgetting the secret handshake, really. Report back at the weekend for our set report summary article, as Red Dwarf XII starts to take actual, factual shape.
NOT ALERT News Posted by Jonathan Capps on 27th January 2016, 13:32 UPDATE: The tweet and photo have now been deleted from Naomi’s Twitter, thus meaning the image can never be viewed again by anyone. Unless you look in the comments. To Red Dwarf cast members and UKTV executives alike, NDAs are apparently just things that other people have to worry about. After last year’s deeply blue sneak peek at the new Starbug cockpit, actress, and presumably guest actor, Naomi Sheldon has taken time out from her busy cuddle campaign duties, to give us a better look at the ‘bug’s shiny new set. You Have Been Watching… Part 2 Features Posted by Jonathan Capps on 24th January 2016, 16:13 Dig very, very deep into your memories and you might recall a little article called You Have Been Watching... Part 1, which was published a staggering 35 months ago. But never fear because now, finally, I have returnethed with part 2, covering every last guest character from the final three episodes of Red Dwarf Eggs (Entangled, Dear Dave and The Beginning). There are a lot of the bastards, so strap in and prepare for some hastily researched biographies and overwrought opinions on the fine people that helped make his series the lovably flawed beast that it is. Roboteers, stand by… News Posted by Ian Symes on 13th January 2016, 13:05 If you were a teenager in the UK in the late 90s/early 00s, rejoice. Your favourite early evening BBC Two show is coming back. Robot Wars has been recommissioned for a brand new series of six hour-long episodes. It’ll be produced by Mentorn Scotland, and will apparently be bigger and better than ever before. There’s no word yet on who’ll be presenting. We’re obviously hoping it’s Craig Charles, partly to maintain the Red Dwarf connection, but mostly because he was brilliant at it. But he’s a very busy man, and I guess it would depend on how long it would take to film, and when. The press release seems to be saying all the right things, especially regarding the focus on the science, and the way that the show is driven by the innovation of the roboteers. The structure of the competition will be “new”, but we’re promised that it will involve more robots and more battles than the original. Basically, this could be very very good indeed. Imagine the original show, how exciting and compelling it was, but in HD, and with the cameras right up close. Yes please. It wasn’t the end, it was merely a pause. For this is the return, *kisses fingers*, of Robot Wars.
David Bowie RIP News Posted by Ian Symes on 11th January 2016, 21:38 A hell of a lot will be written about David Bowie in the coming days. I don't feel remotely qualified to add to it; I'm a fan, but far from a scholar. And yet I feel that Ganymede & Titan should mark his passing in some way, despite it being far beyond the remit of a Red Dwarf fansite. But then again, it's hard to think of a single piece of popular culture from the last forty-odd years that hasn't been influenced by Bowie in some way. And there are a handful of tenuous Bowie/Dwarf connections... Read more →
End of Part One Features Posted by John Hoare on 6th January 2016, 13:39 During the current break in production between Red Dwarf XI and XII, now seems the perfect time to talk about something very specific to the Dave era of Red Dwarf. Oddly enough, it's something we haven't really discussed in any great depth here on Ganymede & Titan, although we did touch on it briefly in our commentary on Gunmen. Firstly, for some context, let's go back to how the BBC-era shows are presented on Dave. And for all my whinging about Red Dwarf repeats, there is one particular joy I have in watching Red Dwarf on a commercial channel - one which you might think of as merely a pain in the ass. And that is: the commercials themselves. Or, more specifically, the placing of those commercial breaks. Read more →

That’s gotta be Comedy Bloopers! Quickies Posted by John Hoare on 26th December 2015, 13:34 At 11:45pm on Christmas Day, BBC One showed the brilliantly-named programme Comedy Bloopers. I do hope you all enjoyed the BBC's other offerings over Christmas: Sci-Fi Drama, Period Drama, and Some People Dancing. As G&T is on reduced power over Christmas, I think I'll just toss out the cliche that it was undemanding fun, perfect for the end of a drunken evening, without really being that original or brilliantly put together. (Compare it with early It'll Be Alright On The Night episodes for how you really make this kind of show into something special, but I digress.) One thing that was pleasing about it however, is that it included a wide range of comedy, across different decades, rather than just concentrating on old or modern stuff. It's fun to see a Two Ronnies clip right next to Citizen Khan - or indeed, an Inbetweeners clip right next to Red Dwarf VI. Oh yeah, clips of Red Dwarf. And what would a G&T article be without a pointless list of them? Read more →
