A Random Day on G&T: 10 Years On Quickies Posted by John Hoare on 23rd February 2017, 09:42 On the 23rd February 2007 - 10 years ago to the day - Ganymede & Titan published four articles. It perhaps seems odd to remember we used to be like this. After all, these days you're sometimes lucky if you get four updates a month. We were a rather different beast back then. True, we still did loads of in-depth articles, but we also prized ourselves on reporting every single bit of Red Dwarf-related news going. Fun though that might have been, it's the kind of thing that is entirely unsustainable now we have, y'know, proper jobs and stuff. We'd rather concentrate on giving you fewer, more substantial things to get your teeth into. Still, I thought it might be fun to take a look at what we were up to exactly ten years ago today. If you're lucky, you may just notice a few comments on one of my bugbears. But I think it's quite subtle. Read more →
The G&T Review of the Year 2016 Features Posted by Ian Symes on 25th December 2016, 14:55 We hope by now that you've hung up your stockings on the wall, your family has arrived, and that you've ascertained whether or not you have the room to spare inside. But before your granny proves herself to be a musical hypocrite, take a moment to look back on the past twelve months. It's been a strange one by all accounts. Brexit. Trump. A cull of beloved celebrities. The rise of the far right. Terror. Fear. Division. Prejudice. Aston Villa being relegated. Frankly, I'm not convinced we'll all survive the last seven days. Which is why we've chosen Christmas Day as the perfect time to focus on the positive, and look back on what has been a much better year in the world of Red Dwarf than it has been for anyone in the actual world. Six brand new episodes recorded. Another six brand new episodes aired. A mobile game. New merchandise. Live DwarfCasts. The dramatic increase in usage of the word "cloche". It's definitely been a busy one, so settle down for a comprehensive look back on everything that happened and how we covered it. Read more →
Ian’s Newsround – 01/12/16 News Posted by Ian Symes on 1st December 2016, 14:23 Having thoroughly gorged ourselves on the meaty morsels provided by six brand new episodes of our favourite show, G&T has been having a bit of a post-series nap for the last couple of weeks. But we're awake now, refreshed, and with plans in place for a whole host of features throughout the coming months, while we wait patiently for the Series XII publicity machine to roar into action at some point in 2017. And as a new month dawns, there are enough tiny pieces of news to warrant this brief festive-flavoured roundup, so read on... Read more →
Red Dwarf Shop Debagging Video Reviews Posted by Ian Symes on 6th November 2016, 20:04 After nearly two months, I've finally received most of the order that I placed with the Red Dwarf Shop on the day it opened. The operators, Sandbag, have not come across well during this minor fiasco. On October 25th, they sent an email to all customers still awaiting delivery, which anecdotal evidence suggests was pretty much everyone, to say that deliveries would on their way soon. It's been claimed by various sources that at least one of the Krysis keyring, Starbug t-shirt and badges were causing the problem, but their policy of waiting until the entire order is in stock before sending anything, rather than just sending the missing stuff later, is a foolish one. Furthermore, I know people who didn't order any of those items, but are still yet to receive anything. It seems the best way to resolve the situation is to complain, which I did a week after the aforementioned email. The 'contact us' link on my initial order confirmation was not much use, but I eventually tracked them down to CustomerService@sandbaguk.com and sure enough, my order was dispatched (minus the pesky keyring and Starbug t-shirt) the very next day. It's a sad state of affairs that this is what it takes to receive goods that you ordered before Red Dwarf XI even started. Read more →
Unabandoned Shop News Posted by Ian Symes on 15th September 2016, 13:08 In amongst all the excitement of Twentica being unleashed to the world, the launch of the brand new Red Dwarf shop has understandably taken a back seat. But on any other day, this would be a huge deal, so let's take a closer look. The first impression is that the site is functional but attractive. Nice big pictures and prices of everything on offer on the front page, with sub-indexes divided between "clothing" and "accessories". It's a bit of a shame, however, that the pictures are quite low-res, and that there's no option to zoom in to take a closer look at the items you're expected to pay good money for. There are details you can make out in last week's TOS update that you can't actually see on the shop itself! As for what's for sale, we have a choice of nine t-shirts (one long-sleeved, one polo, the others regular), all of which are available in S-XXL and presumably intended to be unisex. There's also two hoodies, a mug, a bag, a poster, a postcard set, a lanyard, a badge set and a keyring. It's worth noting that none of these things are actually available yet - you can order them all right now, but they're all listed as shipping in October 2016. Prices are decent, particularly for the clothing, although the lanyard and keyring seem a bit steep at £8 each, before p&p. I placed a massive order earlier, and the shipping cost seemed very reasonable, but I've since seen unconfirmed reports that there's a minimum shipping cost of £5.60 per order, no matter how small the order. Please rush me my portable walrus polishing kit News Posted by Ian Symes on 9th September 2016, 12:35 I honestly can't remember the last time that we, as a community, were actively excited about an official merchandise release. There's obviously been the DVDs and whatnot, and the odd poster or phone skin along the way, but we're talking the best part of a decade since those old t-shirts were reissued, and more than that for the likes of the Starbug playset and Mr Flibble puppet. It can't have escaped your attention that all this is about to change, and TOS has all the details. Read more →
Ian’s Newsround – 07/09/16 News Posted by Ian Symes on 7th September 2016, 14:32 UPDATE (08/09/2016): More merchandise details announced! There are now just fifteen days to go until Red Dwarf XI starts on Dave, and a mere eight days until it premieres online. As we put the finishing touches to our plan of how to deal with all this (there's a spreadsheet, with upwards of four pages), there are enough small pieces of news knocking about to warrant dusting off this old strand, for the first time in four years. The snippets of new information are coming quicker than we can front page them, so do keep an eye on our Twitter and our forum to keep up to date. But if you've missed anything so far this week, it's hopefully all here. Read more →
SOME NEW RED DWARF TAT IN THE SHOPS SOON News Posted by Seb Patrick on 31st January 2010, 14:23 As headed up by Dave on the forum... lovely stuff. Six (judging by the number of buttons) random Dwarf sound clips on a daft little keyring type device. The phrases are apparently (TBC), but will be chosen from a conveniently-included list. I hope they include the Princess Bonjela one, that's one of the few good lines from VII. These things are of course completely daft and pointless, but they're also (judging by how many different franchises now have them) pretty popular, so it's nice to see Dwarf get one. Just in case you're thinking about it, though, I still wouldn't trust FPI with my card details. The other Forbidden Planet should be fine, though. Read more →
Calendar Confusion News Posted by Ian Symes on 27th October 2009, 00:43 UPDATE! Read more... Now, what the fuck is going on here? A website called calendars.org.uk - which I assume is some sort of British calendar organisation - has listed a 2010 Red Dwarf calendar! But, erm, the picture is of a slightly altered version of the 2008 calendar - identical other than the numbers "08" being replaced by the numbers "10". Read more →
And after the spanking, the oral sex News Posted by John Hoare on 31st December 2007, 06:11 Catch-up time! And first off is news of the re-release of two more Dwarf T-shirt designs - and I very much like the explanation given as to why they're so appealing. Read more →
