There has been an increased amount of rumblings about the possibility of new Red Dwarf recently, and as usual we've been kind of ignoring it until something more concrete came along. Most notably, Robert tweeted in a reply to someone the other week that "we start making Red Dwarf XIII in November", which seemed a little too tight a turnaround to be true. But once again following the usual pattern of these things, a cast member has now posted something that reveals perhaps a little more than they intended, and we can't ignore it any more. The cast member on this occasion is Danny, who has shared a snap of the other three at what appears to be a readthrough of something...

...and that sheet of paper on the table is very intriguing indeed if you blow it up and rotate it 90 degrees counter-clockwise...

In scenes rather reminiscent of Headfuck Monday, a real-life version of Starbug has been spotted on location in the north of England. This time, it's in the vicinity of the Angel of the North in Gateshead, and rather than a customised Smart car, it looks like a car-sized screen-accurate model, on tiny little wheels, as captured in this photo by Twitter user Lee Harris:

Oh, Robert Llewellyn. You are a one man gun-jumping machine. This time, he's turned up on the annoyingly-capitalised radio station talkSPORT, primarily to promote the forthcoming Fully Charged live shows. G&T regular Stephen Abootman was listening, and has very helpfully clipped up the part of the conversation that turned to our favourite show. Upon being asked by either Hawksbee or Jacobs whether he was "gonna do some more Red Dwarf", Robert replied:

We are. We start Series XIII, which I can't believe will be nearly 32 years since we started, which is quite daunting. So we're all getting on a bit, but you know, we have such fun doing it. We've been working together recently and it is... I think none of us would do it any more if we didn't get on, 'cause it's such a difficult show to make. If you make a show that's science-fiction, where everyone's got loads of make-up on and props and difficult things, everything goes wrong. Mainly me and my brain not remembering what I'm supposed to say.

Well, then. We’ve been fairly cynical about the prospect of new Red Dwarf happening any time soon. Everything went very quiet for a very long time, and it seemed like once again, circumstances had somehow conspired to kill off any momentum and put the show back into the past tense again. We refused to get excited a couple of months ago when the cast went for a curry together, given that it’s not too unusual for a group of people who’ve known each other for thirty odd years to meet up for a bite to eat, but Danny John-Jules has tweeted a picture today, and…

Yep, it seems like something is happening. All four cast members present and correct (I’d recognise Robert’s bald patch anywhere), in what looks suspiciously like a production company meeting room, with bits of paper in front of them. Doug’s even there, although he doesn’t look massively thrilled about it. Now, this isn’t necessarily Series XIII. There’s still been no official announcement about that, despite what less reputable sites like Den of Geek or Digital Spy will tell you. It could be something to do with the long-proposed live show. It could be a meeting about future merch or something. It could just be them going for a coffee in the world’s worst-decorated Cafe Nero, and we’re reading too much into it. But finally, things are starting to look a little more positive…

The G&T Christmas Message 2018 featured image

It's 3pm on the 25th December, and that can only mean one thing - the whole family gathering around for that old Christmas tradition of reading the Ganymede & Titan round-up of what's happened in the world of Red Dwarf over the preceding twelve months. While 2018 was certainly a special year for the show in terms of its numerical significance, it was also the first year in four where no brand new episodes were either recorded, transmitted or both. As such, a quieter year for us, and so we're eschewing the month-by-month format to instead give an overview of the big news and events that occurred, and a festive selection box of some of our own least shit features that we posted when there were no big news and events to keep us occupied.

In the last decade or so since Red Dwarf slowly creaked back into production, certain traditions have been established. The frantic hunt for audience tickets. Scouring the social media feeds of the cast and crew for teasers during production. The carefully orchestrated promotional campaigns culminating in something important being accidentally leaked early. And, of course, the complete inability of the main cast to keep their mouths shut.

This last one has lead to a confusing and mildly irritating secondary tradition in more recent years, as blogs and entertainment sites vie for clicks in an increasingly crowded market: announcing that a new series is confirmed before a new series is actually confirmed. You can track the development of this phenomenon by noting the increasing levels of weariness in our coverage of it happening for Back To Earth, Series X and the Series XI & XII couplet - twice. So imagine our delight when we saw an article on the otherwise excellent British Comedy Guide loudly proclaiming "Red Dwarf Series 13 confirmed".

Craig Charles, the new host of Channel 5's The Gadget Show, has been doing some interviews to promote said show, and so naturally, some journalists have taken the opportunity to talk about Red Dwarf instead. One such interview is with Digital Spy, and as it's them we can't be 100% sure that Craig actually said any of these things, but we'll give them the benefit of the doubt, just this once. The big news concerns a potential Series XIII...

"I'm sure we'll be doing more, having done these two series," the Lister actor told Digital Spy. "Because it's right back to where we should be, it's won comedy awards, so a lot of people appreciated what we did, and we're really grateful for that.
