This launches in front of ‘The Lorax’ tomorrow, but here’s the all new Universal Studios logo ident:

Gotta say – I think It’s spot on. I always found the 1997 one a little dull, much preferred the early 90’s (75th) variant. I wasn’t sure when I read they were keeping Jerry Goldsmith’s fanfare which he wrote for the 97 logo, but here – It’s mightily epic.

The new Paramount logo Is another huge improvement (which I think debuts with Titanic If It hasn’t already):

Lovely stuff from Universal. Although slightly concerned that I remember the 75th Anniversary logo so clearly.

Very nice. Looks like it’s been made with 3D in mind.

I remember the 75th one from BTTF. It was lovely.

This new one is gorgeous though!!!!!

I wonder if they asked Google Earth if they could use their photographs. I bet they didn’t, cheeky film producers…

Trying to find a way of saying, ‘Oh, yes, that is nice’ without coming across as being sarcastic. Oh well.

They did use satellite imagery of the earth ‘at night’ around the world.

Incidentally, the music has been arranged by Brian Tyler.

Just shown it to my sister. The first thing she said was that it looked as though it read, “UNIVERSAL TOOTH ANNIVERSARY”.

Yes, people the world over celebrating the anniversaries of their dentures…

What I find interesting Is that they went to the effort of recreating the 97 logo in HD on blu-ray. You can tell It’s a new ident, but It Is exactly the same as the 97 one. Why do that (what like… last year) for the sake of a few months, before releasing this? Still whatever – LOVE this.

I toyed with the idea of watching a film, but I’m in the middle of a rather good drama series that I’ve not seen before and which I’m not going to name for fear of spoilers. When I’m done, i’ll let you know.

Was the Bluray version actually new? As they made it originally for films, could they have not just got an HD copy from a 35mm print?

Incidentally, that new Universal ident is great. I really liked the 1997 theme, but always found the graphics a bit bland. Now the theme is even better and the graphics are great. Only the ‘Comcast’ bit ruins it :)

Nope – i’ve endlessly debated over this. Watch It. Two dead giveaways – 1)The rays of light are much more defined, 2) the reflection in the text.

    Here’s the actual 97 version:

    Here’s the blu-ray 97 version:

I can’t seem to find video of this logo in HD.

You know – the render of the camera pan in the first few seconds of the blu-ray version Isn’t quite rite either.

    Ben – see above.

EDIT – Making of with Mr Tyler:
