More incredible when you think the writers didn’t even know if this was gonna be the last series until a few months back.

Not really sure how this differed from a standard 24 season finale. President about to resign? Jack fleeing the authorities? Um, haven’t we been here before?

They should have ended it after season 5, and then had Jack sprung from the Chinese prison for the film.

Much as I love the show and am sorry to see it axed, it was a victim of its own success and retreaded old ground far too often.

    RIP.

I certainly agree that 24 probably went on longer than it should, but i just think this ending felt right, somehow.

This is the first season I haven’t watched… I think I saw the first two or three episodes, realised it was retreading the same old ground it always does and just didn’t bother.

Seasons 1-5 are all very good, especially the first one. Definitely time to end it if they are just going to keep churning out the same old every year.

First half of season 1 is very good, before the amnesia bit. Then it picks up again at the end when Dennis Hopper (RIP :( ) arrives. Season 2 is better overall (not sure why everyone complains about the Kim Bauer/cougars bit; it only goes on in the background for about one episode and there were far sillier bits of her storyline that season).

Those are the only two seasons I’ve seen all the way through – though I did see the beginning of the one with Sean Astin (S5 was it?).

Yeah, you really need to give Day5 a proper go. The second half of that is the show at its very best. Part of the reason the show got a bad press in years 6-8, was simply because it couldn’t match the dizzying heights of Day 5. Well, that and the fact that Day 6 was genuinely awful.

I was very impressed with the first 4 hours of season 6 (killing off Curtis + nuclear bomb = OMG) but, yeah. after that it really petered out. Didn’t bother with 7 and 8 at all, so would it be possible for a bit of a rundown on how it all ended? Anything that’s easily summarised?

    Obviously spoilery…

Jack goes on the craziest strop he’s ever thrown after his bird is murdered by the people responsible for all the shit that’s gone down that day. Charles Logan and Russian President Subarov are involved. Last episode Jack, in his insanity, is going to assassinate Subarov but Chloe manages to persuade him not to and, much like at the end of season 4, buys him time to escape with his life. They both live, Logan blows his own head off (well, he’s actually still alive, though he’ll be a vegetable, how brilliant!). President Taylor, who got herself implicit in all the wrongdoings, basically turns herself in in front of the whole world.

    Roll on the film(s)!
