i think its clear to see how tough red dwarf fans are to please, and im guessing the cast feel huge pressure to be funny and end up lookin abit forced and over played, and then you got doug who has such pressure to please fans that he ends up missing the mark somehow

if u think about 1 to 6 and what very lil fan pleasing was going on during 1988 to 1993 then u can see the quality

sometimes i feel doug and the cast shouldnt take to much notice of the fans

You say that, but for my money it seems that most of the fans (ie. serious fans, the kind of fans who would sign up to a fan site and post regularly on a forum dedicated to the show) are more than satisfied with BtE Pt 1.

IMO nothing was overplayed. Perhaps it seemed that way due to the lack of laughter. Everyone was on pretty much the same performance level as past series, especially Bobby who was SPOT ON classic Kryten.

I do feel that without having THIS MUCH pressure 14,15,16 years ago writing & acting some of the other series was obviously much more comfortable.

Clearly If your a fan, you have expectations, you expect certain things and you will be angry If you dont get what you want. But I dont remember being this way when watching series 6, thinking ‘Rimmers character isnt right here’, ‘that model shot was shit’, etc. Mabey its just me.

Generally, unless its truly shocking, I’ll accept whatever I see on screen for what It Is.

I think it was Graham Linehan who wrote Ted and IT Crowd that said that creators of popular programmes should just not bother reading reviews, because at the end of the day the positive ones don’t help and the negative ones hurt.

Plus actually listening to reviews and what other people think should change about the show can go hidiously wrong. See JNT from Doctor Who for details. Also see Doug Naylor listening to people about what Series 7 should be like.
