You’re alright Cardinal – there’s a difference between the forum section and the front page/new section.  If you looked in the forum you wouldn’t see anything.

Noticed this comment on Facebook. Take with a grain of salt because we all want more solid confirmation than that. But let’s theorise if this was Infact true. A project like that probably wouldn’t happen now would it?

Very unlikely IMO. 

Frankly I think we all assumed the book was in place of anything animated. We know Rob wanted to do something animated, but I think that’s been off the table a long time already anyway. 

This Owain person “knowing one of the animators” sounds like some guy Rob spoke to once (if that person isn’t lying about it) about maybe doing some animation, bragging about it. He says “in development” as if they were about to make it, and it wasn’t just an idea being shipped around.

If there’s a likely scenario where that poster is not lying, it’s probably this: they know an animator/concept artist who was hired to work on a pitch for a Red Dwarf animated series that was not picked up and they’ve not understood that means it wasn’t going to be made.

There certainly must have been pitches made if it was passed over for live-action, so I could certainly believe they drew up some concepts to pitch an animation since he did express interest in that idea.

(the visual side of a pitch for a RD animated series would probably consist of character designs, a few environments and the reels of the animator/s rather than any actual animated sequences from the show)

The animated series was being developed, but only to get to a pitching state, but it was just that, it never got as far as an actual series development.  No commission anywhere or anything like that. I’ve a feeling that that Owain guy in the Facebook post knows the same person that I know who’s company was working with Rob on the pitch (I’m not sure how much I can say tho, and I don’t want to cause any probs). I never saw any actual animation, just character model designs and sketches.

My uncle works at Rob Grant and he gave me the unreleased DVD of Titan Series 1. You can see it if you if you sneak me some of your older brother’s wine coolers.

I got something like that in my mailbox, but it has black marker on it written “REDDWARFTITAN.EXE.” I went up to my room and turned on my computer and put the disc in and installed the series. The first thing I noticed that was out of place was when I pressed start, there’s was a split second when I saw the title image turned into something much different, something that I now consider horrifying, before cutting to black.

I remember what the image looked like in that split second before the screen cut to black; The space had darkened, the title emblem was rusted and ruined, the GRANT NAYLOR PRODUCTIONS 2026 was now instead GRANT NAYLOR PRODUCTIONS 666, and the ship had turned more red, like blood, except it looked hyper-realistic.

But the freakiest thing that was in that split second frame was Kryten, his eyes were pitch black and bleeding with two glowing red dots staring RIGHT AT ME, and his smile had stretched wider up to the edge of his face.

Then the computer shut itself off, I couldn’t turn it back on no matter what I did.

I sat there for maybe 25 seconds, horrified by what had just happened…

I can’t get the disc outta my computer. I think it’s stuck in there, but at least I managed to turn it back on now.

After I sat there for 25 seconds I heard a voice right behind me, like a whisper…

“Try to keep this interesting for me, Warbodog.”

I turned around to see where the voice came from, and what I saw made me scream…

Sitting on my bed… staring right at me…

… Was a Kryten plushie, smiling with bloodstains under its eyes.
