    I was thinking about re-watching the Remastered and wondered which bits people feel have redeeming qualities? Not necessarily better than the original episodes, maybe just interesting new inclusions. I will start with:

    The little bit of music at the start of Kryten is quite atmospheric.

    They made Rhyl look vaguely pleasant in Better Than Life.

    They were actually available to buy in shops and broadcast on the BBC in the period when the rest of the bubble era wasn’t, so I got to see those episodes in some form.

    They enabled/helped the show to be sold internationally so more people got to see it.

    Same, it was my first experience of some early episodes.

    My brain still has to make a slight adjustment sometimes when I watch the originals on the DVD, that this is how it’s meant to be.


    For example, the freeze-frame at the end of ‘Kryten’ still looks a bit wrong to me, the shot of the space bike jetting off into the stars is one of the much less egregious changes and works well in my eyes (from memory anyway, it’s been over 25 years since I would’ve watched the Remastered version).

    Not in the episodes themselves but if we’re looking for positives then the box art was nice on the releases themselves

    It’s interesting to have some new material for Norman as Holly. Not that the material is very good (and including a much older Norman alongside himself was a quirky decision), but it’s amusing to watch from time to time.

    That’s quite a lot of the positives that are specific to Kryten.
