23rd Sep for Red Dwarf….On BBC2?!!

This has just been posted on the Scuttercast facebook page by Darren (my co-host). It is from TVRage….what ever that is. An App maybe…I just checked out TVRage.com and can only see BtE mentioned there. Anyway….I dopn’t know what it is.

But what ever it is, notice that it says BBC2…It’s got to be wrong. But I was wondering about the date….probably wrong too yeah?

I have to say that sounds like its just a mistake or ill-informed guess work. But to indulge it a little…

September 23rd is a Sunday. Can’t see new Dwarf airing on a Sunday, though I suppose it isn’t out of the question. Surely a Friday would make more sense. But all the recent chatter has been about an October launch anyway, hasn’t it?

As for BBC2, I suppose that as an arm of the BBC owns (or at least partly owns?) Dave, it’s possible in theory for RDX to get a BBC repeat? I don’t know enough about the legalities/technicalities/semantics of the situation there. On that note, could it even be possible for the BBC to say “we want RDX” to Dave, even though it’s their commission? I’d assume not but then again I do not know.

It’s fun to speculate et al, but chances are that’s just a complete mistake, based on everything we know or have heard rumoured about RDX.

Of course, another possible explanation could be that perhaps the BBC plans to capitalise on Red Dwarf Fever by having a repeat run of some of the old series on Sundays around the time RDX launches on Dave?

Hasn’t BBC2 aired ‘repeats’ of Argumental (made by Dave)? I’m only mentioning that to add a ‘hmmm…’ to the pot. I can’t see BBC2 suddenly deciding they want to premiere a show made by, and for, Dave. Although there’s no reason why the Beeb shouldn’t want to do something next February, maybe..?

It’s got to be a mistake on the app somewhere. On the actual website, Red Dwarf is listed as a BBC2 show because that is where it debuted…There is no differention between BBC produced Red Dwarf or dave produced Red Dwarf. And all the website says (that I can see) for future dates is ‘on going’.

I did notice a very favourable BtE score which made me smile….fed up of reading total negativity about that everywhere you look!

Apparently, it is from the ‘Qouch’ app. According to Darren-

I have not heard of any of the apps, websites, companies or services mentioned in this thread, with the possible exception of BBC2.

I’m going to start an app that says there’s a new series of Blackadder debuting on 12th March 2013 on ITV4. This information is entirely made up, but I bet some Blackadder fans would get worked up.

It wouldn’t be entirely ridiculous for BBC2 to screen BtE – as Si mentioned, they’ve showed Dave stuff before, and UKTV might consider it good promotion for RDX if they had the chance – but they have no ability to demand it, they’d have to obtain the right to screen it on ordinary commercial terms. (They can’t even get BBCWW’s DVD remasters of classic DW as of right!)

I know BBC Two have shown Dave stuff in the past, but now that digital switchover has happened and most homes can get Dave anyway, it doesn’t really make sense to show a new series on BBC Two as well as Dave. It would be like showing Eastenders on ITV2.

No. It would be like showing EastEnders on a channel with 5 times the average viewership of BBC One.

Argumental went from a channel which expects around a 1% viewership share to a channel which expects 7-8%. It not only meant that Dave got a lovely amount of money from BBC Two buying the show but it also effectively acted as an advert for Argumental when it aired on Dave.

Would it be plausible for BBC Two to help out with some of the budget issues, such as music or model reshoots, and in return can show repeats?

I don’t think an individual BBC channel would part fund, but it’s entirely possible BBC Worldwide are involved in some way, because of their ties to UKTV.
