It’s great to finally be out of lurk mode! Question: do any of you have guitar chords for Lunar City 7? I looked in the music library on reddwarf.co.uk and it said that Lister sings the words to the tune “My Darling Clementine,” but that doesn’t sound right to me at all. No luck on Howard Goodall’s site either. If there were a complete performance of it somewhere, I could easily transcribe the chords. (And yes, I’m a big enough RD fan to know that I’ve just set someone up to quote a line from VII.) Looking (I mean, llewking) forward to getting to know you! PS, the articles and Dwarfcasts I’ve read/heard so far have been absolutely incredible. Well done all. April 1, 2011 at 7:26 pm #111687 Ian SymesKeymaster Hello! It’s the one at the start of Future Echoes that’s set to My Darling Clementine – the “lived an old plutonium miner” one. Can’t help with the Lunar City 7 chords unfortunately, but if anyone were to record it, we’d use it as a jingle on a Dwarfcast! April 1, 2011 at 7:47 pm #111688 Seb PatrickKeymaster Good introduction. Welcome! April 1, 2011 at 8:14 pm #111689 AlexParticipant It’s only ever hummed isn’t it? So it’s only the melody line that’s been heard. I mean I can get some background chords easily enough for you but i’m just checking that there isn’t a more complete version somewhere as my knowledge of the show isn’t as encyclopaedic as others. If anyone were to record it, we’d use it as a jingle on a Dwarfcast! I’ll get onto that then… April 1, 2011 at 8:23 pm #111690 AlexParticipant Thinking about it, I’m not even sure Craig ever hums it in exactly the same key twice. Off the top of my head i’m pretty sure it’s in D#, but can anyone list which episodes it crops up in (save future echoes) to save me having to trawl through everything? April 1, 2011 at 8:42 pm #111691 Danny StephensonKeymaster Lunar City 7 to my knowledge is only sung in Future Echoes, but in two instances. it’s like an ear-worm for Lister in that episode. – As he approaches the vending machine – as he’s shaving and arguing with the toaster, – and again shortly after before the ship passes the light barrier. April 1, 2011 at 8:46 pm #111692 HelloMabelParticipant Thanks for the welcome! VS- In The End he sings the first line and later hums it in the same key, but when he switches to cheeking and clicking, it changes key. ;) The melody of the first line starts and ends on F#. I always interpolated the harmony as beginning with an F#7 chord, changing to E7 on “sir” and back to F#7 on “-round.” April 1, 2011 at 8:53 pm #111694 AlexParticipant Ok, that’s easy enough then. There’s only 3 chords, you’ll need to downtune half a step if i’m right about the key (I need to check against Craig singing as i’m going by memory at the moment): xx0232 x32033 320033 I’ll still have to check that like I say, but that should work ok. April 1, 2011 at 8:55 pm #111695 AlexParticipant The melody of the first line starts and ends on F# Does it? I’ll take your word for it as i can’t remember it well enough to say for sure. April 1, 2011 at 9:03 pm #111696 AlexParticipant I’ve just looked on youtube and it is in a different key in that episode which would explain it. I’d just go with whatever key suits to be honest, Craig seemed to. April 1, 2011 at 9:09 pm #111697 HelloMabelParticipant Thanks Alex, can’t wait to hear your version and I’ll post my version when it’s ready too. I’ve only found the 1st verse and refrain on lyrics sites, so coming up with a couple more verses and a bridge/middle 8 will be the tricky part for me. Actually, the first part (up to “toddlin’ town”) sounds more like an intro than a verse. What a fun project! I always thought it had a lounge lizardy, cruise shippy feel to it, which goes nicely with Lister’s 5-year Fiji plan. April 1, 2011 at 9:15 pm #111698 Seb PatrickKeymaster He sings it in Me2 when Rimmer moves out, too. Well, “sings”. April 1, 2011 at 9:19 pm #111699 AlexParticipant I don’t think anymore than that exists does it? I might be wrong, but the novels have that most complete version of the lyrics and I think that only ran to about 3 verses. I’m sure the only music that exists is that 3 chord progression. If I get round to it i’d imagine i’ll just do it as in show. I’ve got 15 minutes of a 30 minute piece to finish writing and demoing first though, so it might be a while. He sings it in Me2 when Rimmer moves out, too. Well, “sings”. Yes, that makes it a bit awkward. I notice there is a particularly odd note in the Future Echoes version that is best ignored for fear of dragging it into a Beatles territory. April 1, 2011 at 9:22 pm #111700 Danny StephensonKeymaster Lunar City 7 to my knowledge is only sung in Future Echoes Utter bollocks. Ignore me. April 1, 2011 at 9:26 pm #111701 genericnerdyusernameParticipant Hello Mabel. Any chance that’s a reference to the Bonzo Dog band song as well as your name? April 1, 2011 at 10:01 pm #111702 HelloMabelParticipant >Hello Mabel. Any chance that’s a reference to the Bonzo Dog band song as well as your name? Hiya fella. (If you are indeed a fella.) Cue tapdancing. :) April 3, 2011 at 12:46 am #111709 genericnerdyusernameParticipant My God, that’s brilliant. April 3, 2011 at 1:15 am #111710 HelloMabelParticipant Thank you; you’re far too easily impressed! :) I just chose that user name to match the current e-mail address, which I got the year the Bonzos did their reunion tour thing. I couldn’t go see Stinkfoot the Musical although I really wanted to. I actually haven’t listened to the Bonzos lately. Last week after rewatching BtE I listened to far too much of this: http://mp3lemon.org/song/98987/Ray%20Conniff%20-%2006%20-%20Getting%20To%20Know%20You%20-%20I%20Whistle%20A%20Happy%20Tune -until the neighbors started cussing me out; am currently listening to this. Possibly the most beautiful melody ever penned: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWXVZlrLa6E Enjoy, M April 3, 2011 at 4:12 pm #111711 Tanya JonesParticipant Beautiful Mabel, leave me alone. April 3, 2011 at 5:15 pm #111712 HelloMabelParticipant Tanya – love your review of the Bonzo reunion show in Noise to Signal! Did you get to see Stinkfoot? (If you meant “leave me” alone” literally, pretend you didn’t read this. :) ) April 3, 2011 at 8:16 pm #111715 Tanya JonesParticipant Cheers! We didn’t make it to Stinkfoot, sadly, but I think the Bonzo gig was possibly the best night out that I’ve ever had. I’ve enjoyed Neil Innes gigs before, but (nearly) the whole lot of ’em was incredible.
