Wow, OK, that’s going to feel a bit weird.

What are the odds that Red Dwarf inexplicably does huge numbers on Channel 4, and they commission a new series?

No need to answer, just let me dream.

Looking forward to the G&T article comparing their episode thumbnail choices to those of iPlayer and UKTV Play.

    How interesting.

Hopefully they work on their app before this is delivered because discovery of content is terrible.

They indicate the U “Service” will be available through Channal 4, so I wonder if it’ll be a channel (like you have on Amazon or Apple TV – a way to subscribe to other content through the service) or whether all the content will just be mixed in.

Buy the box set and the audible audio and download from google play, prime or youtube as well just incase it’s all removed from iplayer, U, ITVX premium britbox  & 4!   When’s it coming to channel 27

The Channel 4 app is miles better than the U app (UKTV Play as was), at least on Android.  It doesn’t feel like it’s been updated at all in the last 10 years, it’s beyond dreadful.  There are shows on there I’d like to watch, but not enough to get me to endure the app.

    You’re welcome.

I’m rather tickled that the press release for this mentions stuff like Q.I. that neither broadcaster had a hand in producing, but manages to ignore UKTV’s most successful and enduring original commission having been well ahead of the curve in making a successful transition (and expansion) to Channel 4.

(Though I guess that’s less of a novelty since the Dave episodes have already been on 4OD since the switch.)

They have in fact been doing “updates” all along, just nothing to improve the user experience.

The most recent update was to insert extra adverts if you try to use the player controls (e.g. pause) while viewing a programme. IIRC that “feature” was added last month.

I haven’t used it recently so I haven’t seen that change.

At least since they added adverts on the pause screen, you can still back out to view the paused TV programme as nature intended.

The worst Channel 4 UI change was when they shrank the end credits while moving the controller’s focus to the Up Next/Recommended thumbnails. So now it’s impossible to pause or rewind the end credits. (At least you can’t do it with a console control pad; maybe it’s still possible if you do it on a smart TV or something with a dedicated pause button.)

The first 2 series have been uploaded to their website although i’m not quite sure what’s happened to Lister in their promo art.

They didn’t know what Lister looked like so they asked Chatgpt

That’s the de-aging thing Doug has been harping on about

Such a bizarre mishmash of characters, eras and reality there. What on earth.

Why is Kryten not there but Kochanski is?

I mean, it is just the first two series, where there is technically more Kochanski than Kryten.
I think that off-brand AI Lister is going to haunt my dreams tonight

And exactly zero of those appearances are the actress in the picture.

If you’re just going to collage random Google Image results, maybe save yourself the Photoshopping and just use this:

Honestly it is less that it doesn’t look like Craig that disturbs but that the head appears too big for the body.

Somehow it looks even worse on the series page.

What the fuck is going on with Kochanski’s hair?

    #315309

It’s the ear for me. Something about the ear is really disturbing.

I’d love to know the thinking here. “We have hundreds of photos of Lister at our disposal, so let’s use an unrealistic computer-generated recreation of the character instead”.

It’s also her Ouroboros uniform, with the colour tweaked to be more similar to Rimmer’s. Bizarre choices all over.

It’s weird to see Dave era Cat alongside Series 1 Rimmer too.

Not even just Series 1 Rimmer – The End, pre-accident Rimmer. It’s not exactly a great representation of the series as a whole to show a version of Rimmer who was in half of one episode. They might as well have used future Rimmer from Out of Time.

You know Rimmer, he’s that character that famously doesn’t have anything recognisable in the middle of his forehead.
