‘Keep Hyking’. Dear me.

Just in case you’re wondering what Starhyke is, it’s a British Sci-fi sitcom series that was actually made a few years ago. They weren’t able to find a channel willing to buy it though, but they went ahead and did a full 6 episode series anyway.

I haven’t seen any, so I don’t know if it’s any good. They provided a showing of the series last year at an event but I wasn’t able to go due to expense, etc. The premise is quite interesting. It stars Claudia Christian, Jeremy (Boba Fett) Bulloch and number of others including that saucy minx with the fruit from Brainiac. Oh, and Danny John Jules makes an appearance in it.

*I’m in that category I’m afraid. I did hear they were planning to release the DVD last Christmas. Now it’s almost next Christmas.

Really? I do remember one guy actually going it the pilot premier who disliked it.

Story-wise it’s very different. There’s lots of blurb on the website, but it’s essentially about a crew of people from a future where humanity have had their emotions purged. They’ve become highly militant and set about conquering and destroying any alien races they come across. Chasing a bunch of these aliens (the reptids) back into the past they get hit by a bio-weapon which destroys their emotional suppressors… and I think most of the humour is based on them in the present day trying to cope with their emotions while preventing the Reptid aliens from hitting earth with the same weapon.*

As for how the comedy compares from Hyperdrive I’ve only seen the odd clip. From the little I have seen I’ve had mixed feel. Some the stuff in the trailer really dodgy, quite wacky and silly, but much of that was from a montage so out of context. I quite liked a couple of scenes though. Quite dry dark humour.

*I don’t quite get that bit as the present day is before the emotional supression. Maybe the ‘bomb’ prevents the suppressors from working retroactively…

I like the name of Rachel Grant’s character. Wu Oof. Heh.

The feeling I get from different trailers is…. disparate. (Ooh good word…) There’s the cheesy musical number from trailer 2. Then there’s one on the Amazon site which is actually a bit disturbing. (Back in the dark days, etc.) Makes me wonder if they’ll try to play it straight until the bomb… well, ok, not too straight what with the Vulcans on crack delivery.
