Home Forums Ganymede & Titan Forum Thread for reporting Smega-Drive subtitle errors

I know that previously, mistakes in the Smega-Drive captions have been reported in the original Introducing the Smega-Drive article. But I think it would be better to have a forum thread for doing this, because:

    1) The comments on that article are making the page really long, so a paginated thread is probably better.

    2) If they’re all kept together in a thread of their own then it’ll probably be easier to keep track of which ones have been reported and fixed. (As long as people don’t confuse things by, say, making up fake errors… or mixing up the subtitle errors with memes about subtitle errors…

    … uh-oh.)

    3) I know the original announcement article says they should be reported by email, but posting them in forum comments is probably quicker. (If you spot an error because you’re already making a meme for another thread, it’s not much effort to save the image that has the problem and post it here.)

Anyway, this is the one I spotted today that prompted me to start this thread:

Also, lines that begin with ellipses often only have one or two dots:

Also, I’m sure I saw one not long ago where a stray “&amp” or “&nbsp” or “▯” turned up. But now I’ve forgotten where I saw it and – despite ctrl+F-ing a lot of episodes’ pages – can’t find it again. :(

Pleading with Cappsy to install my five series worth of existing corrections into the Smega-Drive before more people start reporting errors here.

Also I’ve just submitted fixes to these errors. There was an ellipsis with only two periods not far below the Pete one you posted so I got that too.

Yeah, hold fire until I can submit the fixes from this incredibly angry woman that keeps sending me abusive messages.

This is where we’re managing the most up to date subtitles so anyone who’s so inclined can check if a fix has been made here and if not submit a PR: https://github.com/cappsyco/reddwarfsubs/

Thanks – I saw that in the comments of the announcement article you mentioned a GitHub would be available, but I there wasn’t a link to it so I didn’t know it was active.

I am still astonished at some of these subtitle errors that are so broken they feel impossible to have survived a single proofreading.

    I’m not angry, just disappointed.

Just did corrections for Emohawk (including correcting Gelf to GELF in all instances). I’ve ALWAYS heard this as “Death to the stranger” but now I’m not sure. Consulting the G&T hive mind.

In an acronym becomes a noun, wouldn’t Gelf or gelf be correct

I’ve just always seen it written as GELF.

Is this the new ‘Dave Lister’s Smeglewhack Adventure’?

Cappsy has (reportedly) (supposedly) finally incorporated all of my fixes into the Smegadrive. So any errors you now see are assuredly ones I have not addressed yet.

A lot of lines now seem… off, somehow.

So is this “Luke,” like the name, or “Nuke,” as the Tongue Tied wiki insists? Discuss.

    This is what YouTube reckons.

It sounds like an N, but maybe the actor stumbled over all the L allliteration.

    Son of Soup:

    Fix it, Capps.

    If you’re not too busy.

I thought that was Cinzano Bianco-gate.

Who this fuck is called Nuke anyway

Maybe his parents wanted to call him Luke but had a cold when registering his birth

Just to be incredibly helpful and add another option to the mix, Beeb reckons it’s Duke, which sounds right to me.

Duke makes sense. Ain’t nobody in the old west called Nuke.

It’s short for Anouk, clearly Nuke was a Dutch woman.

Kryten’s robo-subconscious made some names and concepts metaphorical, maybe Nuke and some of the background saloon patrons were clues he skipped. The novel version has a bit more of that Terrorform-style stuff.

Maybe I’ll try changing only one word at a time so it’s not a giant To-Do pile.

Change it by one letter each go.
