My partner is making me a Lister shirt. It’s not supposed to be screen accurate or even for cosplay; it’s just to wear to the pub.

It’s basically the S1 uniform shirt we had in mind but with a more olive colour akin to Lister’s S1 jacket because she reckons that will suit my skin tone. We bought the LISTER and THIRD TECHNICIAN patches on Etsy. I’ll pick up the JMC patch for the arm eventually.

So now I’m watching The End to make sure we get the patches on the right side.

Guys. They’re all over the place.

Todhunter’s name is on the right breast pocket while his job title and rank are above the left breast pocket.

Rimmer’s name is on the left and his title and rank pips on the right.

Kochanski has the same as Rimmer but the other way around.

Lister has the word DAVE on his arm ffs.

Hollister has CAPTAIN and his rank (I assumed the little tick symbols are rank pips since Lister has one and Rimmer has two but the Captain has about 20 so who knows what sort of decoration they are) on the left and no name or anything on right.

The Tongue Tied wiki says “the left breast has the service patches and name patch on, and the right breast has a row of pen holders with the division role (Captain, Navigation Officer etc) sewn on” before showing pictures of Kochanski and Todhunter that contradict the text.

“The bloody book doesn’t exist! He’s making it up!”

So I think we’ve decided to do it Rimmer-style. As well as being the uniform most familiar to human eyes, he’s probably the only one who actually looked it up.

    What do you reckon, gimboids?

I think the nice thing about the inconsistency is that you can’t really get it wrong. See what arrangement looks best and go with that!

I’m not going to post pictures because I would die if anyone saw my face but my dad helped me make a really cool Rimmer costume out of a quilted jacket when I was like 12 or 13. We had Series 1-style patches for rank and name and stuff, and I had a wooden H I spraypainted blue.

I salute the dads of like three houses who recognized who I was supposed to be.

So I think we’ve decided to do it Rimmer-style.

At about the same age, my mum helped me make a full Holoship-Rimmer costume for some kind of school event. I was dead chuffed with it.

Still, if you died from people on the internet seeing your face, you could come back as a hologram and make the cosplay even more authentic.

If you look at their little face, it’s almost as if they understand (that their dad’s a twat).

Is this some kind of The Ring style thriller I have not heard of?

A little update. We bought the JMC patch and stitched it on.

I think that’s it finished now really. Tempting to look into other details but, as I said above, this isn’t an attempt to be screen accurate or even to do cosplay. Just a shirt/jacket for the pub.

Here’s the Etsy seller who did the patches, btw:

Come to think of it, pretty sure it’s the same patch as Spare Hand One’s.
