In February you’re going to be fascinated by the results of the American election… :) November 13, 2008 at 2:34 pm #86750 cliffParticipant Wahhhh whwaaaah!..budum tsshhhh. November 13, 2008 at 2:38 pm #86751 cliffParticipant may my hands be cut from my torso for revising old news……i was unaware that everone was privvy… forgive me dark lord!.. November 13, 2008 at 2:58 pm #86752 Seb PatrickKeymaster Actually, the news that Aykroyd has written a script about Hell is about ten years old ;-) November 13, 2008 at 3:17 pm #86757 cliffParticipant well cliff is always the last to know……been doin other things…my apologies!. November 13, 2008 at 3:27 pm #86761 PhilParticipant There’s still a lot up in the air about this though…isn’t there? The film being CGI/live action…or maybe not being worked on at all with the video game making use of some of its plot elements…the video game itself mysteriously vanishing from development… Seems like nobody really knows for sure WHAT’s going on. I do hope the video game isn’t scrapped entirely. Evidently they were pretty far along and it had some really cool slime physics…I was looking forward to that more than I’d look forward to a third film. November 13, 2008 at 3:32 pm #86762 cliffParticipant let’s just hope it’s not another Blues Brothers 2000!….. November 13, 2008 at 6:21 pm #86776 DaveParticipant >let?s just hope it?s not another Blues Brothers 2000!?.. Blues Brothers in Hell November 13, 2008 at 7:36 pm #86782 CarlitoParticipant I’ve kinda kept up with this… The news that Cliff posted is, indeed, over ten years old. Production on that film was supposed to start in 1999 but they couldn’t get funding (sound familiar?) because Aykroyd expected a much bigger budget than he was allowed. This led to an eventual fall-out with the studio, and they parted ways. As the project progressed, it became clear that Bill Murray would not be involved and, as he had some say over the franchise, would not give the green light for a film to go ahead without him. (Apparently Murray has heat with Harold Ramis stemming back to Groundhog Day, and was also upset with Ghostbusters 2, having claimed that he agreed to the film based on a great concept and when he came to film it, they had written a completely different film altogether than planned). So the film was just in development hell for many years. Eventually, Aykroyd announced that Murray was now on board, on the proviso that it would be an animated/CGI production. However, there is some confusion here, as it was announced shortly afterwards that Ghostbusters The Video Game was coming out, voiced by the original cast, and it was believed that Aykroyd was actually talking about this as the CGI project, rather than a third GB film. Then, earlier this year, it was rumoured that a third Ghostbusters film was planned starring Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd and the Judd Apatow gang. Rogen later dismissed this, claiming that a third Ghostbusters film would be terrible (or something to that effect). Then, in September this year, Columbia signed on Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, who write for the US version of The Office, to write the script for Ghostbusters 3 (with Ramis, Aykroyd and Ivan Reitman consulting). The original cast are all most likely on board, script dependant, except for Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis, who has retired. So the wheels are finally in motion, and we should get Ghostbusters 3 in 2010/11 starring a mix of the original cast and new Busters. November 13, 2008 at 7:42 pm #86783 CarlitoParticipant As for the game, that’s out in June 09. November 13, 2008 at 7:45 pm #86784 CarlitoParticipant I always thought a live action, weekly one hour Ghostbusters show might be really good, given a decent budget. Maybe the Ghostbusters have expanded over the years and franchised out, and we follow the exploits of one of the franchises… or even New York, with the old GBs retired, maybe popping in for a cameo now and again? Maybe Ernie Hudson could play Winston in a full-time role as the manager of the station… or some shit like that or shit. November 13, 2008 at 8:16 pm #86786 ChrisMParticipant That could work out really well. As long as it’s not just a ghost of the week of course, which could get a bit repetitive. The basic plot of the films (i.e. increase in hauntings and other supernatural phenomena leading to a Big Bad’s attempt to enslave the world) lends well to a series story arc. November 13, 2008 at 10:57 pm #86791 CarlitoParticipant I could see Aykroyd and Hudson as regular cast members, but not the others. March 14, 2009 at 11:21 am #93834 peas_and_cornParticipant Yes please October 7, 2009 at 11:29 pm #104264 CarlitoParticipant Oh man, I know this isn’t real but its so good (except for the pretty poor voiceover) I nearly needed a change of underwear. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whS_lTan8Ik&NR=1 I’m so pumped for GB3. October 8, 2009 at 3:08 am #104268 The PerformingMonkeyParticipant I think now IS the right time for it to come back and not 10-15 years ago. At least CGI is pretty brilliant now, even on a smaller budget, which we can assume GB3 will have compared with, say, Abrams’ Star Trek. They still would have CG’d it to death 10 years ago but it would have been considerably worse. Even though there’s obviously going to be a younger cast involved (people like Ben Stiller and Jack Black are hardly ‘young’ though, if they’re who get cast) I think Bill Murray should still be the main star. A Venkman/Oscar thing (not slash…). Say Venkman brought up Oscar as his own son and Oscar became a Ghostbuster but then Venkman left and hasn’t been seen by anyone for 5 years or so. No-one realises that Venkman is trapped in ‘Hell’. This is the place the ‘busters found to send all the trapped ghosts (they know they can’t keep them contained at the station). It’s populated with 20 years’ worth of ghouls that the ‘busters have put in there. Or something. October 8, 2009 at 6:01 am #104270 Ben PaddonParticipant I am so glad you’re not writing the film, Performing Monkey. October 8, 2009 at 8:50 am #104271 Seb PatrickKeymaster I have an AWESOME Ghostbusters film idea. I bang on about it every time the topic gets brought up, but with GOOD REASON. October 8, 2009 at 9:26 am #104272 CarlitoParticipant Go on… October 9, 2009 at 12:28 am #104294 RidleyParticipant There’s a story in Tokyopop’s Ghostbusters manga “Ghostbusted” that I really which has Ray called out to a couple of homes including a woman being haunted by the ghost of John lennon who keeps singing Imagine at her. October 9, 2009 at 1:12 am #104295 The PerformingMonkeyParticipant > I am so glad you?re not writing the film, Performing Monkey. The thing is, you know that’s the kind of relatively lame storyline they will be going with. I hope the Hell element is still there at least.
