Wonder if the packaging will be different? Seems odd to re-release them rather than just slash the price.

    Meanwhile:

“Limited edition”… still on sale six years after release!

    #111208

If only we had say, the executive producer of the DVDs around at some, I dunno, forum, to comment on this… :)

    Ahem.

    Where’s the Ellard signal?

Be fair – there’s been plenty of limited editions of stuff that never sold out!

Concept goes: you make a million (figuratively speaking) of something, call it “limited”, solemnly swear you’ll never make any more [without ever saying how many you DID make!] and watch the punters rush to buy it!

*got the limited edition of the series with the mini-skutter (VIII, I think). It broke.*

To be fair, if you never got the Corgi Starbug, £7 is a cracking price to get hold of it along with a free copy of most people’s favourite series (which you could give away to a non-Dwarf-owning friend as a present) into the bargain. IIRC, it ended up being quite difficult to get the Corgi models individually, as opposed to together, and I imagine there will have been some people bloody-minded enough in their hatred of the VIII model not to want the RD ship.

(actually, maybe the only person that bloody-minded is John, and he bought them anyway so as to review them)

I never got the Starbug gift set – the Asda near me didn’t have it when V came out. I may have to snag it.

Has it really been about 8 years since the first DVD was out? Holy shit, I remember those days of finding out what the buggers were going to have on them.

I’ve just watched my first Blu-Ray so it reminded me of my first ever DVD. I remember being in awe at the menus, and the chapters, and the commentaries!

    8 years ago? Really?

My first DVD was, in fact, Red Dwarf I. I bought it from the Virgin store in the Luton Arndale centre on my way into college, and they forgot to put the booklet in there. I stopped back on my way home to mention that the booklet was missing, and they replaced it for me. I didn’t own a DVD player at the time, but my sister had just got one for her birthday.

My first Bluray was the H2G2 movie, which I got cheap as I worked for Disney at the time.

Red Dwarf I was also my first DVD I ever owned, and i bought that first before buying my first DVD player… The same day of course, i’m not a mental.

My first DVD was Monty Python and The Holy Grail. Not bad for a first punt I figured…

Mine was Oh Brother Where Art Thou, and The Who: 30 Years of Maximum R&B. Bought em at the same time, but not sure which I watched first. Probably the latter. It’s still one of the best music DVDs I own.

    I haven’t bought a BluRay yet. I’m still hoping I won’t have to.

My first DVD was Evolution, the Ivan Reitman film.

My first BD is from a Time Yet To Come.

Yes, I remember one comment from Andrew Ellard in a series 1 DVD preview article particularly well: “I can actually read what Rimmer’s writing on his limbs, for smeg’s sake!”

Now that line turned out to be a slight exaggeration. But it did contribute to Red Dwarf series 1 being – along with The Fellowship of the Ring Extended Edition – one of the first DVDs I ever bought.

Snap! Though not the same Gemma I wouldn’t have thought…:P

The first DVDs I owned were the T2 metal tin version and also…The Phantom Menace (the menus are better than the film!), as well as The League of Gentlemen series 2! All ordered from amazon.

Another interesting factoid – I received them on 11th Sept 2001, so…I’m not sure when I watched them!

My first DVD was T2 in the metal tin, too – what an introduction to DVD. Think my first boxset might have been Alien Legacy (waaaay before I got my hands on a region 1 copy of Alien Quadrilogy).

And what was everyone’s first CD?

Mine was REM – Monster. Still one of my favourite records ever, the feeling it gives me, still related to the fact that it was the first. Actually…it was either that or Ash – 1977. Another brilliant one there anyway.

For sure! Rivals most DVD sets today – even more impressive when you consider it was more or less a port of the laserdisc release IIRC.

My first DVD was probably Red Dwarf I as well. I didn’t have a DVD player so used to watch it on my PC.

The first CD I ever bought was a Street Fighter 2 Soundtrack CD which was a free gift with one of the first issues of the moronically titled Nintendo Magazine System (formerly Mean Machines, nowadays Nintendo Official Magazine).

Does that count? Nah, probably not. But I enjoyed reminiscing, so fuck you.

I can’t possibly remember my first CD – what do you think I am, the memory man?
It must have been about 1988/89.

First vinyl LP, and 7″ anyone?

    >You do remember vinyl, right? Right …?

    I do.

I forget my first (at least the first I bought) but I remember my foster brother buying me a Country and Western dance record. I’m not particularly into that sort of thing, he was a little kid at the time (and I wasn’t much older) and it was a school fete or some such.

I believe the first albumn that I bought myself was a Cliff Richard albumn on cassette. Yes. I know. In my defence, I was young. I don’t dislike the guy, think it’s good he’s done well for himself but I’m not that keen on his music any more.
I’m not sure I was particularly then either. It was a case of going to a record fayre thing with a couple of mates as a kid and having no knowledge of what I liked and… ooh, heard of him.

I believe Gladiator was my first DVD.

I believe the Alien Legacy box set was my first box set but I’m not sure. It was pretty good, but I sold it when I bought the Alien Quadrilogy box set. (The Legacy box-set actually had some deleted footage not in the latter, so still a decent box set to have, but it couldn’t compete with 2 versions of each film.)

I’ve yet to upgrade to Blu-Ray.

I recently received a whole bunch of films on UMD (I recently bought a refurbished PSP and it came with a bunch of games and films.)

I bought it more for the quantity/deal than the choice of games and films as there isn’t much to choose from with console and film based deals. I figured I can sell what I don’t like, but there are quite a few films there that are pretty good.

The Dark Knight(A good un, but I’ve got it on DVD already), Seven (I’m not sure I’ve seen this all the way through), Daredevil, (a bit pretentious and corny in places maybe, but not a bad super hero film all in all). Family Guy: Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story (I’ve yet to watch it, but it looks worth a chuckle) and The Perfect Punch. (A film of boxing knock outs. I have very little interest in this.) I think the former owner was a bit of a sports nut as most of the games are sports related too. I suspect those will be on ebay soon.

First cassette album: Blur – Parklife (’94)
First CD single: Baddiel & Skinner & Lightning Seeds – Three Lions (’96)

    [shrugs] I’m just shit!!

I don’t think that I can remember any of mine for definite. My brain is so rubbish!
What follows is a long rambling journey through my sketchy memory!

I *think* my first 7″ single was Heaven is a place on earth – Belinda Carlisle. My Mum used to be friends with someone who filled the jukeboxes so I used to get piles of old vinyl singles and it’s hard to remember.
EDIT: I’ve just remembered that I used to have a massive old His Master’s Voice record player in my bedroom at my Grandma’s house. My first vinyl single was the theme from Supergran by Billy Connolly! :oD Good one memory!

I never bought any vinyl albums myself, I just used to listen to my Mum’s. She had loads Duran Duran, Blondie and Queen were the ones I listened to the most.

First cassette single: I still owned all my cassette tapes until a few years ago when my evil ex threw them all away *grr* so it’s hard to remember. I reckon that it might have been You’ll Never Stop Me Loving You – Sonia (Hey, I was 9 okay!?!) That’s one I know I had and remember playing until it must’ve driven my Mum and Grandma mental, they never said anything though bless them!

First cassette album: I’m guessing but I’m fairly sure it’ll have been Ten Good Reasons – Jason Donovan

First CD single: The first one I actually remember buying was It’s Alright – East 17.

First CD album: Don’t know… Mum had one of those Britannia CD accounts so we used to get quite a few shared CDs (Parklife, Definitely Maybe and Out of Time all fall into this category) so I can’t remember which would have been *my* first CD, I reckon it would probably have been a NOW one.

First VHS: I remember this one. The Addams Family (1991). I watched it so many times that I can still remember the script now. Mum lent the VHS to a friend of hers at work and I never saw it again. :o(

First DVD: I have NO idea! I remember getting my first DVD player in about 2001 but I can’t remember what my first DVD was. It’ll most likely have been replacing an existing VHS copy of something and so isn’t particularly memorable. Will have a scan over the DVD collection later and see if I remember though, just out of interest!

First Blu-Ray: Back to Earth :oD
