Anyone seen these weird Series VIII versions?

I was attempting to make a fan edit of Back In The Red, to cut them down to one episode and cut all the crap… i eventually gave up cos it was to hard and wasnt really doable. But what struck me was the weirdness of the episodes i downloaded (since i have had nasty experiences with dvd rippers), they had occasional jap subs but only for bits that had writing on screen. The opening is a horrible mix of the remastered opening with series VIII clips, and a lot of dodgy jumps that cut out whole sequences. For example in Only The Good after the cell inspection joke, it cuts the whole “where did you get such news WAY before it went public” so rimmer just randomly says “see you in about 25 years then” which was kind of amusing, and the closing credits have series 1 clips of the characters faces with english and jap text it was all a bit weird.

It would seem these are japanese copies, but there arent constant subtitles.

They are the Japanese versions, basically. You still see them floating around torrent sites, because they were the first DVDs released – so people were ripping them and putting them online before the proper series releases came out.
