The fact Doug thinks there’s a market for 10 nights at the O2 that’s somewhere in the region of 200-250k people that would be willing to travel to London, spend money on transport and hotels and on what would likely be a £50-100 ticket to see the 4 guys muck about on stage sort of tells you how out of touch Doug is.

I’ve no doubt there *is* a market. But that’s a huge barrier to entry for people to see four old codgers on a stage at (Wembley stadium aside) the biggest venue in the most expensive city.

Maybe at the height of its popularity, in a smaller venue. But now, I just can’t see it happening

If I remember right in the past Doug described the stage show as a brand new story that integrates the cast recreating moments from the shows. Which sounded a bit meta. Which might mean this is strictly more a stage show concept than anything that could be adapted into a book.

It could be that Robert performing without the mask is something the audience are expected to proactively ignore, and they pretend Kryten just looks the way he usually does (as much as his look is ever consistent, anyway).

Like how in Avenue Q the audience have to ignore the fact that all the puppeteers are just standing there on stage, not even doing ventriloquism or anything.

You’d be much more forgiving if he forgot his lines etc during a live stage show. Them ballsing it up a little would be expected really given how many smeg ups there are, and it would make each night a unique experience.

Id imagine the likely scenario is more along the lines of, ah Robert will get through it for the team.

After all, whats the point doing it if you are just going to half ass it. If creatively you are unable to fully commit then why bother?

I guess if they ever attempted a stage show, there are things they could do to make it easier for Robert.

If he has trouble with the lines, they could have a Starbug set with a monitor with all of his dialogue on it.

If they want to limit his time in the costume, they could have some scenes that are mostly the other characters with Kryten maybe interrupting on a screen. Something similar to the moment in Timeslides when he asks them to go to the photo lab.

This is the main part I’m focused on. I wonder if he knew about the Titan novel back when he mentioned doing his, or whether it had an impact. Or he’s just focusing on writing the book/s he’s actually been commissioned to write and not having turned down.

I assume it’s not Doug personally making these abominations, and he’s being supplied assets to post by the organisers/promoters of the events he’s appearing at. But it’s a sad indication of how low standards have fallen if said organisers and promoters are perfectly happy for this shite to be associated with their brand.

I asked the moderator whether Doug discussed any new Dwarf projects. For example, a novel. The moderator said that he only talked them doing the stage show.

So, as you say, certainly not conclusive.

So I would imagine that at least half of it is done.
