Seems pretty legit, although you can underline the word Teaser. September 4, 2010 at 10:38 am #110581 Fluffy WokParticipant fair nuff. looks pretty awesome still September 4, 2010 at 5:46 pm #110583 redhead85Participant > ’tis fake. I didn’t recognise most of the footage/special effects shots though – is anyone able to enlighten me as to which episodes they’re from? They’re booootiful…. September 4, 2010 at 6:31 pm #110584 AndrewParticipant There’s a lot of bespoke stuff in there – down to manipulation of stills to appear as moving 3D and the placing of actora into new contexts. It’s a very good job. September 4, 2010 at 7:42 pm #110585 redhead85Participant Oooh impressive. I still maintain it’s boooootiful… September 4, 2010 at 7:58 pm #110587 DanodinParticipant It is pretty good, particulary the Michael Gambon shot, wherever that’s from. Also, ‘silence will fall’…still don’t know who the heck they got to say that line. People are saying Ian McDiarmid simply because it’s aping his delivery as the Emperor somewhat, but it’s not forced to be him, and if it was would Moffat have him doing that voice? September 4, 2010 at 8:16 pm #110588 ChrisMParticipant A voice does appear in one of the last episodes, although it’s not as loud as that. A bit of sound manipulation could sort that though. Or it was taken from one of the Davros episodes a while back. September 4, 2010 at 8:31 pm #110589 DanodinParticipant I don’t think it’s Julian Bleach as Davros, you can hear it clearly enough to tell that. Also, this is obviously much more of a mystery than everything being down to Davros. As much as I want to see Bleach back in that role at some stage in the next few years it would be very boring if Davros was behind the ‘silence’. September 4, 2010 at 10:16 pm #110591 AndrewParticipant Actually, looking at it, I think ALL the character shots might be stills. The life given to them is just extraordinary, but if you watch closely everything – eye shifts, moves of the mouth and nose, the Doctor’s chest – has that slight ‘slidey/stretchy’ quality that you get on everything from top CGI FX textures to videogame sprites. (Do they still call them that?!) Check out Smith’s fringe hair at the 20 second mark – it moves with his eyebrow, not independently. That’s a fucking incredible job to do on stills, though. I’m really rather impressed. September 4, 2010 at 10:20 pm #110592 AndrewParticipant Oh – duh. September 4, 2010 at 11:28 pm #110594 Ben PaddonParticipant The “Silence will fall” line comes from “The Pandorica Opens”. Boom. Headshot. September 5, 2010 at 8:43 am #110595 hummingbirdParticipant > Oh – duh. > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k34NwSQrbiY Very nice. I’m always envious of someone who has so much time on their hands. September 5, 2010 at 12:01 pm #110598 AndrewParticipant > I’m always envious of someone who has so much time on their hands. I’m envious of talent. Saying it’s about time kinda suggests we could all do what they did if we weren’t busy doing far more important things. For all we know, the person who made the vid has three children and two jobs! September 5, 2010 at 5:24 pm #110600 redhead85Participant > I’m always envious of someone who has so much time on their hands. > I’m envious of talent. I definitely think it’s a combination of both. A talent takes time to nurture, improve upon and develop. You’re never going to become wonderful at something overnight. September 5, 2010 at 9:34 pm #110602 DanodinParticipant > You’re never going to become wonderful at something overnight. Or after 10 years, as Davina McCall proves… September 5, 2010 at 10:17 pm #110603 hummingbirdParticipant > Saying it’s about time kinda suggests we could all do what they did if we weren’t busy doing far more important things. FYI Andrew, I wasn’t suggesting anything of the sort. I wasn’t commenting in any way on the level of talent required to produce the piece, merely that it must have taken some time to complete. Perhaps you should try interpreting other people’s comments a little less negatively. September 5, 2010 at 11:07 pm #110604 Nick RParticipant Oh – duh. Reminds me of this Sky advert and certain shots in the Watchmen title sequence. I always like seeing those layer-by-layer breakdowns of special effects shots – this bus crash clip is probably my favourite example. September 5, 2010 at 11:17 pm #110605 AndrewParticipant > Perhaps you should try interpreting other people’s comments a little less negatively. Or perhaps you should write your comments more carefully and not attack so personally? Seriously, imagine that face to face: “Nice video – I guess you had a lot of time on your hands?” Doesn’t quite convey what you were going for, does it? That’s not misinterpretation, that’s misjudged writing. If it’s not what you meant, fair enough and good for you. But say “that’s not what I meant” rather than blaming the reader for being negative, for taking you at your inadvertent inference. What if I’d just replied here with this: “Nice forum post. I’m always envious of someone who has so much time on their hands”? However it’s meant, how it’s *written* doesn’t take any great effort of will to find not entirely complementary. September 5, 2010 at 11:28 pm #110606 DanodinParticipant There’s only one person here with too much time on his hands… September 6, 2010 at 6:33 am #110607 redhead85Participant > Or perhaps you should write your comments more carefully and not attack so personally? I’m afraid Andrew, you’re already guilty of this yourself. I read part of your original reply to Hummingbird and actually winced. To say a certain something to a certain person is actually very rude – and if you haven’t picked up on what it is, perhaps you should pay attention a bit more. September 6, 2010 at 9:39 am #110608 AndrewParticipant > if you haven’t picked up on what it is, perhaps you should pay attention a bit more. I have no idea what this refers to. (But if it’s about knowing personal details, I don’t know any so wouldn’t be referring to any.) September 6, 2010 at 10:40 am #110609 redhead85Participant > I have no idea what this refers to. (But if it’s about knowing personal details, I don’t know any so wouldn’t be referring to any.) Then I reiterate my point, sir. Pay attention on here a bit more. :-) Then you won’t inadvertently offend someone, just as you’re intimating the lovely Lisa did. Now who wants cake? I want cake. ^__^ September 6, 2010 at 10:43 am #110610 Pete Part ThreeParticipant I think we’ll all have to pay attention because I don’t understand what the fuck is going on either. September 6, 2010 at 11:05 am #110611 Fluffy WokParticipant What’s with the assumption that people who do these things are going to be offended by something someone says very innocuously in a forum for an unconnected fandom? Yes, its hard work, yes it takes a lot of time, yes some people will devote their free time to create something that other people will not be able to just pick up and do and how much free time someone has is neither here nor there. I think no one here is going to have a face to face with this person and say “wow, you’re using a lot of time to make this you could have spent improving the world or curing cancer” because what people do in their free time (or time when they should be working) is up to them. Its also up to them if they find a comment like “You must have a lot of free time” offensive or not. I personally wouldn’t, it has nothing to do with the work itself and although at worst its a backhanded compliment, it still amounts to a compliment. Why people feel they need to get upset on someone else’s behalf for comments that are clearly not meant with bad intent is beyond me. September 6, 2010 at 11:05 am #110612 Fluffy WokParticipant Oh and I like cake September 6, 2010 at 11:26 am #110613 redhead85Participant > I think we’ll all have to pay attention because I don’t understand what the fuck is going on either. That’s OK Pete. Have some cake. > Oh and I like cake Cake for you too my love. September 6, 2010 at 4:18 pm #110615 DanodinParticipant Can I have some too? Only ’cause I’m jealous… September 6, 2010 at 4:40 pm #110616 redhead85Participant > Can I have some too? Only ’cause I’m jealous… How about some scones and clotted cream? Dundee cake? Battenberg? September 6, 2010 at 5:40 pm #110617 DanodinParticipant I was thinking more along the lines of an iced finger. :P September 6, 2010 at 5:46 pm #110618 redhead85Participant > I was thinking more along the lines of an iced finger. :P Oh YOU :-) hehe. September 6, 2010 at 8:38 pm #110619 Tanya JonesParticipant >> I have no idea what this refers to. Pay attention on here a bit more. :-) Then you won’t inadvertently offend someone, just as you’re intimating the lovely Lisa did. No, really, you’re going to have to help me out as well. How can anyone avoid offending someone in the future if they won’t say what’s wrong? September 6, 2010 at 9:16 pm #110620 redhead85Participant > No, really, you’re going to have to help me out as well. How can anyone avoid offending someone in the future if they won’t say what’s wrong? It’s always going to happen – people will take things in jest which others can’t, and will in turn get personally affronted by. That’s just life, so unfortunately sometimes these things cannot be avoided. I don’t really want to state overtly on here so publicly. After all, I was coming to the defence of someone else who had been hurt by it so it’s not my place (and no, I haven’t met them in Real Life, but I do listen) – but perhaps it’s best to bear in mind that people have their own lives and issues to deal with in the scariness that is the Real World. Sadly not everyone has the time, opportunity or financial freedom to realise their talents. But those people who give it a bloody good go, despite their personal situation, have my utmost respect. Plus? This is a nice place and I don’t like people being upset. I make them feel better with cake. ^__^ September 6, 2010 at 9:38 pm #110621 CarlitoParticipant I don’t think it has to do with free time either. I know when we made the animated Red Dwarf vids last year that Pete absolutely slaved over them in every spare moment he had just for the love of doing it and appreciation for the show, and works a hard labour/long hours job running his own business and has a family too. To him it wasn’t boredom or want of anything else to occupy him, it was commitment to doing something creative and gaining experience in animation whilst paying tribute to something he’s a big fan of. I’d assume (rightly or wrongly) the creator of that video feels the same way. September 6, 2010 at 9:46 pm #110622 redhead85Participant Good point Carl (and where have you been? Seems like we haven’t chatted for ages. Hope you’re doing well) but I would have to maintain that in my opnion it’s a balance of the time and resources available to you versus the hard slog regardless. You guys put a lot of time and effort into RDA, as did I (relatively speaking ;-D). And I do feel it’s unfortunate that Real Life got in the way and it had to fall by the wayside because of other things. T’was hard work and great fun. September 6, 2010 at 10:13 pm #110624 WilburParticipant > This is a nice place What the fuck is happening to this site? I come here because of the recommendations. September 6, 2010 at 10:14 pm #110625 WilburParticipant Cunts. September 6, 2010 at 10:15 pm #110623 CarlitoParticipant Ahhh ’tis not dead in the water quite yet. We’re still raring to go, we want to do a couple more (Tiresias, Ghosts and Juno) we just need a new Rimmer unfortunately! By far the hardest part to cast :( No I agree that people have different commitments and real life gets in the way, but now and again, the stars align, lightning in a bottle, and you get the chance to do things like this for your own amusement. But that doesn’t mean that the guy who did it had too much time on his hands, nor does it mean that by that reasoning anybody could do it. It’s about balance and a lot of people unfortunately don’t have that kind of luxury, whereas others manage to find the time from somewhere… and yeah I guess there are some bums out there with far too much free time as well! It’s not a reflection on anybody at all, everybody has their own scenario. Different garms blud ja get me? I’m good by the way :) hope all is well your end! September 7, 2010 at 12:24 am #110626 DanodinParticipant We all have dreams. Some of us are lucky enough to be in a situation where we can attempt to fulfil them, and whether we garner any success from that chase is a bonus. Some of us aren’t. > and yeah I guess there are some bums out there with far too much free time as well! I have no kids, not many responsibilities, that equals plenty of opportunity to write. On one hand you could consider that lucky but it’s a curse as well as a blessing because if I actually did have a family to provide for, or desperately needed something to get me out of the shit, that would give me more incentive, put more fire in my belly, even if I was left with a lot less time to physically write. At the moment it still feels like a hobby and I sometimes feel guilty for not clutching it with both hands as tightly as I can. I should just get myself sacked from work. Yep, that’s the solution right there… So, yeah, all those shots were stills. Wow. :P September 7, 2010 at 6:16 am #110627 redhead85Participant I’m good thanks Carl – shame to hear we need a new Rimmer, the other guy was great! > Different garms blud ja get me? I didn’t know you spoke London :-P > What the fuck is happening to this site? I come here because of the recommendations. Cunts. Psch I meant it’s nice *relatively speaking*. Fear not. You’re still a cunt. > So, yeah, all those shots were stills. Wow. :P Ooooh purdy… :-) September 7, 2010 at 6:22 am #110628 Ian SymesKeymaster when we made the animated Red Dwarf vids last year that Pete absolutely slaved over them in every spare moment he had He really shouldn’t have. September 7, 2010 at 6:58 am #110629 CarlitoParticipant > He really shouldn’t have. He wanted to. We all enjoyed what we were doing, and lots of online viewers told us they enjoyed it too. (Those without ADHD who made it past the first 20 seconds without switching it off, that is…) September 7, 2010 at 7:00 am #110630 CarlitoParticipant > shame to hear we need a new Rimmer, the other guy was great! He really was. I think he emigrated and has been MIA ever since :( September 7, 2010 at 10:00 am #110631 Fluffy WokParticipant > Different garms blud ja get me? Different what? Oh, Garms, right http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=garms I love Urban Dictionary. Helps me feel down with the kids. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=down+with+the+kids September 7, 2010 at 3:22 pm #110633 Smeg4BrainsParticipant I was just going to comment how how impressive I thought this video was but I seems to have stumbled into a war zone, so I’ll just have a piece of cake and leave. September 7, 2010 at 8:06 pm #110635 Tanya JonesParticipant Well, I’m now scared of posting in case I offend someone because of something I wasn’t previously aware of, but which I’ll be held responsible for. September 7, 2010 at 9:22 pm #110636 redhead85Participant > Well, I’m now scared of posting in case I offend someone because of something I wasn’t previously aware of, but which I’ll be held responsible for. I’m not sure why you feel you are ‘scared’ of posting, but hey, that’s your perogative. Like I said, it’s always going to happen, you can never know everything about everyone else. As long as one tries to be courteous and considerate of other people’s feelings then that’s the best we human beings can do, right? I’ve been in the same situation on forums before, where I’ve inadvertently offended someone – but you apologise and move on. That’s life. ….aaaand I’m done with this. ^__^ *goes to eat cake* September 7, 2010 at 9:36 pm #110637 Pete Part ThreeParticipant Well, personally I think you’re bang out of order. And don’t play innocent with me. You know what you did. September 8, 2010 at 12:55 am #110638 WilburParticipant And normal service is resumed. Sort of. September 8, 2010 at 1:57 am #110640 DanodinParticipant > Well, I’m now scared of posting in case I offend someone because of something I wasn’t previously aware of, but which I’ll be held responsible for. Same here. I mean, I might, for a variety of reasons, decide to make a derogatory statement about tambourines, subsequently offending someone who posts here who may have been married to someone with a tambourine-shaped head in a previous life who died a horrible death involving a pair of clackers and a riled bucket of foaming piss. You just don’t know. Or I could type the words ‘lock this thread, please, as it now has very little to do with the original post’ and chance some little chancer getting on my back, shouting something oh so clever in my ear about reason whilst simultaneously toe-fucking their own fanny, practically demonstrating the massive self-love they can’t seem to shake off even for a second before opening that silly, silly mouth of theirs. In other news, just watched the Doctor Who Proms on iplayer and a) Karen Gillan is exceptionally lovely and I just want to run my hands through her gorrrrgeous blazing red hair (it’s red, don’t you know), b) is it me or did Matt just deliver one of his best ever performances as the Doctor? The bit on the steps with the kid, I’m just in awe of the guy! Not many other actors could have pulled off that little skit in front of the brightly lit packed audience like that. Red Dwarf, cunts and all that bollocks… September 8, 2010 at 6:29 am #110642 Fluffy WokParticipant Bestest Thread Evar!
