Anybody else found this? I stumbled over it on icanhascheezburger of all places. Seems pretty legit, although you can underline the word Teaser.

I did actually have a point to make, reading back through the posts people made comments based on the best intentions; the interpretation of comments and their effect on somebody else. While this is a touching example of the human race in action it seems to have taken an arguement about nothing and whirlwinded it into an arguement about less than nothing.

The nature of offence and how someone inteprets the hastily written word is such that we intepret a situation based on the minimum of information, a two minute video and twenty lines of text and now we feel we know this person. I can defend my fellow human to the hilt. The forum is a way to sit on my internet desert island and throw bottles with messages in and wait to see what floats back and I’m not going to understand a situation enough to make a fully informed discourse on it. I am, however, going to voice my opinion. And it will always be ill informed but its still my opinion. I will retract when I know the facts better or have upset someone I didn’t wish to because at the end of the day I’m just chucking bottles and hoping someone else enjoys reading them.

I haven’t managed to catch the Who proms on iplayer, will try when I can. If only to see the lovely Karen who is lovely and I feel completely platonic about. *nods*

    > Well, personally I think you’re bang out of order. And don’t play innocent with me. You know what you did.

Pete, oh my gosh, the others have only just told me in a PM! Here’s me trying to offer you cake and I didn’t realise your school friend, little Jimmy, died all those years ago in that horrible bakery accident! :-( I can only humbly apologise for my disgusting lack of restraint and hope I have not inadvertently offended you too greatly by my references to battenberg.

Sorry, but I still don’t understand why Andrew got a snarky remark about something he didn’t intend and doesn’t know about. It’s genuinely confusing. Seeing as I couldn’t see anything in his posts to object to, I don’t understand the response I’m getting. I’m quite close to getting offended myself, frankly.

Without knowing any personal details of the people involved, I’d say – reading between the lines – Andrew’s comment:

“Saying it’s about time kinda suggests we could all do what they did if we weren’t busy doing far more important things. For all we know, the person who made the vid has three children and two jobs!”

could come across as a bit dismissive to the ultimately innocuous aside made by Hummingbird in the previous post. It also could be (mis?)construed as an indictment, albeit mild, of those who don’t find the time for self-indulgent tasks due to real life getting in the way. For all I know, Hummingbird may well have three kids and two jobs and find the comment a little hurtful, as in “where’s your talent then?”. I’m sure no deliberate offence was meant – whatever the circumstances – and far too much forum space has been devoted to this non-story already, surely?

Now let’s just kick back, relax, and all enjoy the prostitutes.

…and Carl hits the nail on the head. Thank you. Even the comment about the prostitutes.

Tanya – if you feel this doesn’t help you to comprehend (and by that I don’t mean ‘agree’ – we’re allowed to disagree) my point then by all means, please contact me personally. As I intimated before, I really don’t want to bore people on here any more with the conversation. Thanks.

    *sigh*

As far as I can see the only mistake anyone above made is replying in their often-employed condescending tones and counter-attacking rather than simply apologizing for their blissful ignorance of a fellow poster’s situation. A simple ‘I’m sorry, if I caused any offence it wasn’t meant…’ etc. could have worked wonders.

    > I really don’t want to bore people on here any more with the conversation.

I don’t think anyone sees this as boring. It is, after all, probably the most exciting thing that’s happened around here since BtE…:P

Another nail hit on the head for me. Thank you Danodin.

Did you not see the pics of Karen Gillan with Mr Flibble? ^__^

I meant to ask you guys – did he really provide your site ‘recommendation’? ;-)

Indeed he did. On his podcast. The cunt.

Have you really missed that entire story? Wow.

I’d dig out the link – there’s a whole forum thread and front page post devoted to it – but I’m generally trying to consider the whole Iain Lee thing over and done with now. The short version is that he got some stick on here for some comments about Lost and Red Dwarf, he found it and reacted pretty appallingly on his podcast, then we found that and reacted pretty appallingly on here.

Some time afterward, Cappsy and me got into a mini-fight with him on Twitter, which culminated in an exchange of emails between me and him in which we agreed that we’d all acted pretty appallingly, and came to some form of truce. He was actually pretty nice about it in the end, and came as close as we’ll probably get to an apology for the podcast stuff.

(but yes, for good or bad, nothing in the “Recommendations” section is fictional. They’re all actual quotations.)

No – I think it all happened just before I joined the site. That’s quite an epic story! And I do enjoy reading the recommendations. So much passion and hatred. It’s almost touching.

Agreed. It’s become somewhat of a meme now on G&T, but I think it’s run it’s course, unless it can be used like Cappsy did just then.

    But the banner stays…

I wanted to believe so much that this was true. Its so nice to see that life really is stranger than fiction.

I like this one purely for the fact that it turned out to be bollocks:

“Yes it was me, and this will be my last visit to this sad little site for people who haven’t got anything better to do.” – Norman Lovett (who was in RD when it was funny)
