So I don’t know if this has been already talked about on here but… The Official RD site is down (apparently since Feb 25th) with it switching to a new provider. I bring this up just in-case any of the old stuff isn’t going to be on there when it’s back up. (old blog post, features & some of the RD Movie Storyboards) Unless some of that has been saved by one of you dwarfers out there.

Link to the site as is: https://reddwarf.co.uk/index.html

Haha, this is how we know how bad and drawn out the website downtime is, when the references are repeating themselves.

(I exclusively blame GNP for this, to be clear. Dave’s original “switch me on, switch me off” gif was way back on page 1, and my alternate take on the Talkie boot up was in the main memes thread instead of this one – and that was still 3 whole weeks ago… !)

We need this website back STAT, because if we run out of meme ideas completely, who knows what will happen. It’s too frightening to contemplate.

I thought Flap Jack’s post was in the general memes thread and started trying to discover what impending catastrophe I’d somehow been blissfully ignorant about.

Relieved to realise my mistake and that we only have to worry about the usual globalist psychopaths and the relentless downward spiral towards total technocratic tyranny and human enslavement.

    Exquisite…

Shut up shop. Like literally stop production of any and all fan related Red Dwarf content. Stop the conventions, close down the Facebook groups, cease production of Dwarfcast.  Nothing is going to ever come close to being as good as that.

… OK, maybe not exactly as beautiful. Certain tabs within pages are broken.

None of the Geek Chase subdomains exist any more either. 😢 Disappointing, but hopefully they’ll fix all these areas eventually. Definitely prefer this to an indefinite maintenance page.

Hot tip until they fix the links.

This is the old style link: https://reddwarf.co.uk/about/index.cfm?category=the-story
But if you change it to this it works: https://reddwarf.co.uk/about/the-story

I imagine that’ll work with any giving that 404 error.

And I see now why it might’ve taken ages, at least part of the framework itself must’ve been rewritten.

    Ooh, good deduction, thanks Cappsy!

Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be 100%. https://reddwarf.co.uk/games/games doesn’t work.

I mean, there are only 2 games and we know that one of them doesn’t work at the moment anyway, but still.

Oh wow, the “Buy”, “Quarantine Commentaries” and “Lockdown Theatre” pages are all 404s. Those are aren’t even tabs or subpages, they’re direct links from the homepage. That’s really bad. I’m really getting a sense of how much of a nightmare this provider migration must have been, if things are this buggy after 4 months of downtime.

Plus I’ve noticed that switching tabs on certain pages (e.g. the Fan Club page) will cause the cookies consent header to reappear, no matter how many times you’ve already agreed to cookies. Weird.

Unfortunately, amid all this the link to Chris Barrie’s website still works perfectly.

… aaaand changing either the ‘Series’ or ‘Section’ drop-down in the episode guide or clicking “Search” 404s you too, and it doesn’t even give you a usable URL query out of it. On top of reappearing the cookies thing for every new page within the episode guide section.

Maybe this is the reason there isn’t a news post about the site being back, and the Red Dwarf social medias haven’t mentioned it. I’m actually starting to doubt they even did it intentionally.

Yeah this feels like a soft launch to iron out the problems. I have sympathies with them as it’s clear there’s been some sort of backend rebuild done.

I’m just glad it’s back even if it’s a bit borked.

In a way it’s a comfort to see it back and so janky, because that pretty well confirms that there was no secret behind the downtime, it literally was just a very difficult provider migration. (The occasional progress update would have been nice, honestly.)

Here’s a thought – what if the reason the site’s back up when it has so many unresolved issues is that they have actual news to announce soon, and it can’t wait?

There, now that idea’s out in the world, everyone can be niiiice and disappointed at 11:30am on Friday when nothing happens.

Tomorrow’s update (which has appeared today!) is a bit worrying isn’t it? TOS going into stasis mode doesn’t exactly scream “everything is hunky dory” over at GNP

It’s been a while since news has happened! We’ll be updating this in a bit.

The Complete Guide stuff is still all there, but the URL’s are all borked. So for example, if you’re on the series 1 section, the link used to be:

    https://reddwarf.co.uk/series/1/index.cfm

But now, the dropdown is knackered, so you’ll need to manually type the section you want to get to, so for Cast and Crew, Series 1, you need to type:

    https://reddwarf.co.uk/series/1/cast-and-crew/

You can hover over the Previous/Next pages links at the bottom of each section to work out what you’ll need to type.

    It’s not perfect…
