So I don’t know if this has been already talked about on here but… The Official RD site is down (apparently since Feb 25th) with it switching to a new provider. I bring this up just in-case any of the old stuff isn’t going to be on there when it’s back up. (old blog post, features & some of the RD Movie Storyboards) Unless some of that has been saved by one of you dwarfers out there.

Link to the site as is: https://reddwarf.co.uk/index.html

I saw the message a while back so was a bit surprised when I checked in last Friday and it still wasn’t back.

Maybe Rob has a new website coming out of his buttski too?

Who knows… But for the moment, like any other official bit of RD news.

    Well, that’s certainly… a website.

Where on Earth is that ship model picture from?

I’ve definitely seen that CGI model floating around for years, but I’m not sure where it originated. Weird that they’d use something (presumably) unofficial and fan made.

Still, at least it’s marginally better than the one on the Blu Ray box art.

It’s not really my area, or any of my business, but it looks like that domain’s been owned since at least 1999 as a placeholder and they’ve just decided to start using it.

I think it’s a poorly ‘restored’ version of an old model shot. I definitely recognise the photo that it’s *supposed* to be. I’m sure it must be online, maybe even on G&T somewhere. I remember first seeing it in an old Smegazine many years ago. If I had time to find a link, I’d plonk it here, but I’m sure there are other folks who know exactly what I’m on about, and will go and do just that.

That ship picture makes that site look proper pony.

Not to say anything of the image, just you’d think GNP would get an actual photo of the ship.

That picture looks like a Deviantart special to me, there are other ones floating around the internet that look of a similar vintage, done on things like 3DS Max 2 and Lightwave. They’re late 90s/early 2000s.

I usually check TOS every Friday but clearly completely forgot for the last few weeks, so I too missed it. Hope it comes back intact.

    This?

It’s 100% an old deviantart render. I’d know it anywhere.

Yes, it certainly feels like it’s based on that.

    #272254

It has the same issues as the pencil in that it doesn’t feel like there’s much sticking out of it, whereas the original model was very heavily textured.

It’s looked like that for a couple of years at least (can’t quite remember when I first visited it).  The Wayback Machine shows it was certainly a placeholder until 2016, then the captures in 2018 and 2021 are broken links – but I definitely visited when I first got back into Red Dwarf, before the pandemic.

Me and Cappsy found that link not long ago and dug into it a bit and it’s clearly only become recently active.

“Please note that regretfully we cannot currently accept unsolicited scripts for consideration.”

What if they haven’t updated that part of the site in a while but since changed their minds and the only reason Dwarf isn’t being made right now is the lack of unsolicited scripts?

I’m sending them a couple pages of script I wrote at age 13. It’s really good according to my memories from the time.

I wonder why it says ‘since 1990’? Were the first few series produced by someone else or is it just a minor error?

They at least had producer credits from series III in 1989.

GNP the company wasn’t formed immediately – it was produced by PJP from the start all the way through Series III wasn’t it. Camille is the first episode to have the GNP logo at the end instead.

The information from Companies House shows 8 February 1990 as the start date.

Let’s send them a link to the Idea For An Episode thread and see what they can do with that.

Well, they said no unsolicited scripts. Therefore, pitches and ideas must be fair game.

Side note: seeing Cappsy’s gif in between Future Producer and Dave’s gifs has made me extra curious about the secrets of image resizing.

I tried messing with the width attribute at one point when I was doing a sequence including standard Smega Drive jpgs and gifs, and it worked in the text editor but not after I actually submitted it. I suspect it was either because I was trying non-whole numbers, or because I was scaling in the wrong direction, but it would be good to know for sure.

Ah well, it’s Cappsy’s site and he’s clever.

    That’s what it says here.

I have a feeling this editor auto scales the images based on whether you’re on mobile or desktop. It’s annoying and I will fix it.

    Ah! OK, thank you.

Could still be an input issue I guess, but best to know either way. It wouldn’t be the weirdest thing if the text editor didn’t allow you to use all the HTML attributes in general, but it would be weird to only stop you some of the time.

I have noticed that on mobile still images get squashed so that they’re the same width as gifs, so when you think about it, mobile is the peak Ganymede Dot TV experience.
