Apparently it bombed at the box office though. Saw a trailer a couple of weeks ago, looked reasonably amusing. :) July 31, 2012 at 11:14 am #117331 Seb PatrickKeymaster I heard it was quite rubbish, but I’ll watch Steve Carell in basically anything so I’ll probably get the DVD. July 31, 2012 at 11:33 am #117332 genericnerdyusernameParticipant Oh, really? Where did you heard that? It’s not HYSTERICALLY funny but by the end of the film I was pretty emotional. The premise is pretty bleak (the world is going to end in 21 days) but then again, it is in the same vein as Red Dwarf. Gillian Jacobs is only in one scene but it is a funny one and there’s a total lezzing it up moment which the camera cuts away from. What more do you want? A couple of scenes were laugh out loud funny, and Steve Carell was great as usual. But Keira Knightley…she just gets on my nerves. It’s probably something to do with the manic eyes and the cut-glass accent, it’s like nails on a chalkboard. What more do you want? *dons phwoarladsmag cap* The camera *not* cutting away from it? In the past week alone I’ve discovered 4 butters and cream cheeses I’d never heard of. I’m not big on romcoms, but it’s not really a romcom so I liked it. I’m not big on end-of-the-world movies, but it’s not really an end-of-the-world-movie so I liked it (well not in the sense of Armageddon, The Day after Tomorrow, etc). It’s gotten pretty mixed reviews, but from them reviews I’ve seen, all the negative ones are people people expected it to be something else. If you go in knowing what to expect then you’ll really enjoy it.
