I guess it sort of makes sense in a roundabout way, but surely the first message in the thread would count if you’ve not read it yet? I’m guessing it’s a WordPress thing. As you say, it’s probably due to First Reply /= First Post, and there may an assumption that if you’ve never read a thread you’ll use a non-“oldest unread reply” link. But on G&T, using the “Recent Forum Posts” sidebar section is more convenient than going to the general Forum page first, even if you need to scroll up by 1 post when you arrive at the thread. I refer to it in my head as a minor annoyance, because it does actively *annoy* me – but not enough to make me do or say anything about it before now. I honestly thought at first you were just referring to the inevitability of threads being driven off-topic or descending into inane memeing. July 12, 2024 at 6:43 am #296681 DaveParticipant Talking of which, what does everyone think of Series VIII? July 12, 2024 at 10:58 am #296689 Future Producer of Series IX – aaaaany day nowParticipant I honestly thought at first you were just referring to the inevitability of threads being driven off-topic or descending into inane memeing. I mean seeing as it’s gonna happen anyway I didn’t see any reason to call attention to it. Could make an interesting follow-up thread though… July 12, 2024 at 1:08 pm #296700 Jonathan CappsKeymaster July 12, 2024 at 1:13 pm #296701 RidleyParticipant Can we have a thread where we put all the suggestions for a new thread? I need to say something about Jeremy Corbyn. July 12, 2024 at 2:22 pm #296702 RunawayTrainParticipant Can we have a thread where we put all the suggestions for a new thread?
