Bootleg the product by sticking on the DVDs and closing your eyes.

Boot up iplayer and put a towel over the screen.

    No customer reviews yet.

“Makes no sense, at all. Why would you… so when Kryten’s with his groinal attachment in Polymorph, unless you know what he’s doing, it won’t make a bit of sense, why the audience are laughing like that.” – Doug Naylor (real)

I can’t believe they didn’t call it ‘Just The Sounds’.

(apologies to whoever else surely must have made that joke by now)

At least they’ll start on some big laughs with the 14F joke and Lister not being allowed to speak.

If you hear someone scream on the bus today, it’s just this jump scare.

Holoship also starts with the now inexplicable laughter at the various facial reactions to the film.

First gag of the series and they blow it like a biggun.

OK, I have taken the hit of buying these soundtracks, so if there’s anything secretly awesome about them, you’ll find out in due course.

This may be a pipe dream, but is there any possibility that one day, someone will discover some clever way to combine the audio from these new soundtracks with the video from the Smega-Drive GIFs, in order to allow us to watch Red Dwarf with both video and audio together?

Sorry in advance if such a feat is technically impossible. :(

I’ll be honest, I have been fighting a bit of weird non-sensical urge to buy them today. I guess it’s the completist in me.

I think Ian Levine is working on his own animated recons.

They tried that with the mobisodes but having to wheel in so many potato batteries proved prohibitive.

Can you imagine if they tried to make new content with the mobisodes? What a dark timeline that would’ve been.

The truly terrible thing is none of this brings us any closer to knowing what Lister was saying.

Genuinely just considered slapping the audio over that gif on a video and uploading it here for a laugh before remembering he doesn’t actually say that. But that was a fun little world I lived in for about 3 seconds where I thought that was the genuine episode dialogue.

I mean, would be one of the more justifiable uses of AI there…

I actually had some audible credits just sitting there doing nothing so I did actually buy them. The last 8 or so minutes of meltdown are missing! As in the episode just stops as the battle begins!

Wouldn’t be a post Ellard release of a Red Dwarf product if it didn’t have a glaring major issue

Strangely, Meltdown could be one that works quite well in audio. There’s the Winnie the Pooh bit that’s left to your imagination anyway, the voices are distinctive and you could imagine that the lookalikes actually lookalike.

So well done on fucking that one up.

I dunno, the entire battle would be pretty much lost on the listener, as would the plasticine monsters, Lister putting Rimmer’s light bee in his mouth, Lister and Kryten coming out of the shower, the fireplace reveal, Santa…

Also the fact that Caligula slaps Lister instead of Cat whenever Cat speaks up.

I thought the first few examples were described well enough in dialogue or sound effects, but yes to the later ones that I didn’t think about. I’ll probably just watch it next time instead then, having the last 8 minutes of the story would also be a bonus.

They should’ve done it like the audio of the classic missing Doctor Who stories where they actually get a cast member to come in and read the script descriptions for the parts that are mostly visual, like “Jamie sneaks around a tunnel and hides in the nearest alcove when he spots two approaching Daleks on patrol.” Seems like a job for Chris Barrie who very ably narrated the other unproduced Dwarf scripts on the DVDs: “Ace enters Bongo’s office. Bongo is played by Robert Llewelyn which would have more of an impact if you saw the video of DNA three episodes ago since he looks just like Kryten’s human form in that, but if you only listened to the audio of DNA, just know that it’s the same actor, which is sort of the whole point.”

That would’ve taken the slightest bit of effort and the smallest budget, though.

    Oh well.

(I always read the title of this thread with the intonation of “The Sausages are done…”, which amuses me.  So there has been at least some enjoyment gleaned from the whole endeavour.)

Me too! I originally thought that was the intention, until I realized it probably wasn’t. Glad I’m not the only one!

Oh God don’t post that cunt’s face without a content warning.
