Shane and I instantly bit our tongues when that happened, and we had to wait to let it burst out as soon as Heath and Angela hung up on Skype. May 10, 2013 at 12:01 pm #207245 Jonathan CappsKeymaster we had to wait to let it burst out ! May 10, 2013 at 12:37 pm #207246 cirenshaneParticipant no mention of the lovely Rosie :-( May 10, 2013 at 12:42 pm #207247 Jonathan CappsKeymaster Ian Symes is a terrible person. May 10, 2013 at 12:43 pm #207248 Ian SymesKeymaster Ah, because she was better than both of us at ignoring the magnitude of what Heath had just said, and went straight into something else to deflect the attention away. If it wasn’t for her, we’d have just sat in silence for a minute or so! May 16, 2013 at 11:31 am #207372 Jonathan CappsKeymaster This was tremendous fun to record. I even managed to say “fuck”. June 19, 2013 at 10:08 pm #208312 MANI506Participant Really looking forward to the Tikka To Ride episode! The quiz episode was great as well. If you haven’t subscribed then now is the time! June 20, 2013 at 11:48 pm #208321 JamesTCParticipant “Who is Pete?” June 21, 2013 at 4:48 am #208324 anniescribeParticipant I would’ve busted a gut if they’d gotten “moose” right. June 21, 2013 at 9:00 pm #208335 JamesTCParticipant Cappsy, I’m pretty sure the advocaat reference you were thinking of in the ‘Tikka’ introcast was from ‘Back in the Red’ Part 1. June 21, 2013 at 9:09 pm #208336 Jonathan CappsKeymaster Oops, spoilers. June 21, 2013 at 10:45 pm #208340 RidleyParticipant Starting the episode/series on Earth would have been interesting. Missed opportunity to get the time drive stuck on forwards too… June 24, 2013 at 4:38 pm #208395 ori-STUDFARMParticipant I think the thing I like most about this podcast is that the opinions of the noobs is usually on a par with the majority of Red Dwarf fandom. (at least the ones that aren’t just idiots) Things like Rimmer being the best thing about Red Dwarf, the live audience being the better option, preferring the model work to CGI etc… I have wondered how much of my own opinions, and that of some areas of the fandom in general, is influenced by the more vocal and whingy corners of the fandom. Heath and Angela have not been exposed to these vocal corners and, for the most part, are coming to the same conclusions. June 24, 2013 at 5:08 pm #208402 Jonathan CappsKeymaster If being a guest on this podcast has taught me anything it’s that I talk too much. June 24, 2013 at 5:31 pm #208403 ori-STUDFARMParticipant Not at all. Everything said was relevant and needed saying. June 24, 2013 at 6:53 pm #208405 Pete Part ThreeParticipant >I think the thing I like most about this podcast is that the opinions of the noobs is usually on a par with the majority of Red Dwarf fandom. (at least the ones that aren’t just idiots) Things like Rimmer being the best thing about Red Dwarf, the live audience being the better option, preferring the model work to CGI etc… As a fan-club member at the time; even the fans who stuck up for VII back in ’97 weren’t happy to see Rimmer or the live audience go bye-bye so I don’t think they’ve ever been “controversial” opinions. The reaction to the CGI was more muted really; especially when you have some great model-stuff (in Ouroboros and Beyond A Joke) to distract people from the MS Paint standard of the CGI. June 28, 2013 at 2:38 am #208547 RidleyParticipant Yay Stoke. Woo! Roll on Blue and Pete Part 2. … Nunubididoo June 28, 2013 at 9:36 am #208551 MANI506Participant They are loving Stoke Me A Clipper! June 28, 2013 at 10:16 am #208552 Pete Part ThreeParticipant Don’t worry, Ouroborus will come along and shit on all their dreams. June 28, 2013 at 12:51 pm #208559 anniescribeParticipant Is “smeg” really in the Oxford English Dictionary? June 28, 2013 at 1:05 pm #208561 cirenshaneParticipant “Is “smeg” really in the Oxford English Dictionary?” yep the New words list for June 2013 can be found here http://public.oed.com/the-oed-today/recent-updates-to-the-oed/june-2013-update/new-words-list-june-2013/#new The word is listed as a slang expletive that was ‘popularised by the British television programme Red Dwarf (1988–99) June 28, 2013 at 4:01 pm #208565 anniescribeParticipant That is the most awesome thing I’ve heard all month. And that’s even taking into account the news story last week about the Christians vs. the atheists in a volleyball tournament to raise money for children’s charity in Kansas City. June 28, 2013 at 4:58 pm #208571 Seb PatrickKeymaster Ahem, well, if you checked your trusty official site of a Friday… http://www.reddwarf.co.uk/news/2013/06/28/oxford-english-dwarf/ June 28, 2013 at 6:12 pm #208573 RidleyParticipant 1999 June 28, 2013 at 6:27 pm #208574 anniescribeParticipant One of my favorite bits of the Introcast was their disclaimer that essentially boiled down to “yeah, yeah, ya filthy animals, we know Chris Barrie shows up again ’cause we’ve seen RDX DVDs, so we’ll hold off on crying just now that he’s gone.” LOL. June 30, 2013 at 1:01 am #208595 BlisschickParticipant *facepalm* July 6, 2013 at 3:34 pm #208686 anniescribeParticipant Is anyone else surprised Heath and Angela are liking S7 as much as they are so far? I don’t mind it; it’s my least favorite series, but even “meh” Red Dwarf fares better than the best episode of Two and a Half Men. I even like Kochanski and don’t mind so much that Lister’s a genetic cul-de-sac. But I’m kind of surprised the newbies are responding so positively. But in a good way. I can’t wait ’til they hear the audio of IWCD. That’s always a pleasant experience in especially the initial listen. July 7, 2013 at 3:30 am #208697 HelloMabelParticipant > even “meh” Red Dwarf fares better than the best episode of Two and a Half Men. Yes. But “meh” rainbow test pattern also fares better than TaaHM. I’m taking a breather having listened to nearly the first half of the Ouroboros one. July 7, 2013 at 4:53 am #208699 anniescribeParticipant True that. You can tell the level of excitement of my frugal life by how glad I am to get my weekly download of this podcast. :-P Now that they like 7 (so far at least), I wonder what they’ll think about yet another drastic tonal change for 8 … July 8, 2013 at 5:45 pm #208704 ClaireParticipant I’m pleased that Heath and Angela like 7 so far, although it does make me wonder if they’ll hate 8 as it’s so dramatically different. It’s refreshing to hear opinions of RD which are honest but not cynical. Their enthusiasm for “Stoke” reminded me that it’s actually pretty good and suffers critically from its place in an unpopular series. I always enjoy 7 more than I think I will when I actually watch it. July 8, 2013 at 10:52 pm #208707 MANI506Participant My general feeling is that VII was a good idea not always executed well and VIII was just bad. I get so annoyed by how uncritical the VIII documentary is. Norman is the only voice of sanity in the commentary. The VII DVD is frank and honest and one of the best. July 8, 2013 at 11:52 pm #208709 siParticipant The VII DVD as a whole is amazing. That has absolutely nothing* to do with the fact that several members of this forum appear on it. *This may be a lie. July 9, 2013 at 10:00 am #208711 MANI506Participant The Movie Yeah No Yeah No is a classic of our time I agree. July 9, 2013 at 11:06 am #208712 siParticipant Fuck them, I was talking about me. July 9, 2013 at 12:15 pm #208715 Seb PatrickKeymaster I’m not surprised that Heath likes VII at all, it seems right up his street. Although I wonder what they’ll make of the shift in tone in the second half of the series. I can’t see them liking the move away from SF-orientated comedy drama for VIII at all, though. July 9, 2013 at 1:08 pm #208716 anniescribeParticipant If 8 had been the end of the show, I’d be kind of pissed at the change. But knowing there’s more after and it’s back to more dramady and sci-fi allows me to think of 8 as a kind of wacky house party “break” for all involved. Just don’t ask me who’s Kid and who’s Play. September 29, 2013 at 4:39 am #209315 RidleyParticipant The Garbage Pod advert on the usually family-friendly Red Dwarf Introcast was a surprise. December 6, 2013 at 11:47 pm #209489 RidleyParticipant “I kinda felt [un]comfortable with his very broken English for no particular reason.” Oh my. December 7, 2013 at 6:42 pm #209491 anniescribeParticipant HA! I had the same foreboding when I heard her say that. The Alabamans are coming for YOU, Kerry Shale. December 17, 2013 at 7:22 pm #209527 JamesTCParticipant Oh, I was on the ‘Only the Good…’ and ‘Back to Earth’ Part 1 podcasts. Marvel at my very high ratings. December 18, 2013 at 1:57 pm #209531 Pete Part ThreeParticipant I’m behind of these and don’t think I’ve managed to listen to one since the Tikka one. How did they find VIII? December 18, 2013 at 3:10 pm #209532 ClaireParticipant They liked “BITR” Part 1 as they thought it was promising, but were severely let down by the rest of the series. They enjoyed “BTE” a lot more. December 18, 2013 at 9:03 pm #209535 RidleyParticipant Did any VIII episode rank lower than Backwards? December 22, 2013 at 4:10 am #209549 ClaireParticipant I think either “Krytie TV” or “Only The Good…” had that unwelcome distinction. December 22, 2013 at 1:11 pm #209551 RidleyParticipant Ms. Fowler gave Backwards one and a half. I was remembering it as 3/10… January 17, 2014 at 12:01 pm #209650 RidleyParticipant Taiwan Tony went down better than expected. January 17, 2014 at 2:05 pm #209651 anniescribeParticipant That’s what SHE said. January 17, 2014 at 4:54 pm #209655 RidleyParticipant TAIWAN TONY IS NO LAUGHING MATTER January 17, 2014 at 6:33 pm #209659 PhilParticipant Don’t let Taiwan Tony go down on me. Although I search myself, it’s always someone else I see. :( January 17, 2014 at 7:43 pm #209660 RidleyParticipant Forty winks in the lobby, make mine a G&T.
