Especially since they said in the latest podcast that the one character who you couldn’t take out the show would be Rimmer.

Shane and I instantly bit our tongues when that happened, and we had to wait to let it burst out as soon as Heath and Angela hung up on Skype.

Ah, because she was better than both of us at ignoring the magnitude of what Heath had just said, and went straight into something else to deflect the attention away. If it wasn’t for her, we’d have just sat in silence for a minute or so!

Really looking forward to the Tikka To Ride episode! The quiz episode was great as well. If you haven’t subscribed then now is the time!

Cappsy, I’m pretty sure the advocaat reference you were thinking of in the ‘Tikka’ introcast was from ‘Back in the Red’ Part 1.

Starting the episode/series on Earth would have been interesting.

Missed opportunity to get the time drive stuck on forwards too…

I think the thing I like most about this podcast is that the opinions of the noobs is usually on a par with the majority of Red Dwarf fandom. (at least the ones that aren’t just idiots) Things like Rimmer being the best thing about Red Dwarf, the live audience being the better option, preferring the model work to CGI etc…

I have wondered how much of my own opinions, and that of some areas of the fandom in general, is influenced by the more vocal and whingy corners of the fandom. Heath and Angela have not been exposed to these vocal corners and, for the most part, are coming to the same conclusions.

As a fan-club member at the time; even the fans who stuck up for VII back in ’97 weren’t happy to see Rimmer or the live audience go bye-bye so I don’t think they’ve ever been “controversial” opinions. The reaction to the CGI was more muted really; especially when you have some great model-stuff (in Ouroboros and Beyond A Joke) to distract people from the MS Paint standard of the CGI.

That is the most awesome thing I’ve heard all month. And that’s even taking into account the news story last week about the Christians vs. the atheists in a volleyball tournament to raise money for children’s charity in Kansas City.

One of my favorite bits of the Introcast was their disclaimer that essentially boiled down to “yeah, yeah, ya filthy animals, we know Chris Barrie shows up again ’cause we’ve seen RDX DVDs, so we’ll hold off on crying just now that he’s gone.” LOL.

Is anyone else surprised Heath and Angela are liking S7 as much as they are so far?

I don’t mind it; it’s my least favorite series, but even “meh” Red Dwarf fares better than the best episode of Two and a Half Men. I even like Kochanski and don’t mind so much that Lister’s a genetic cul-de-sac. But I’m kind of surprised the newbies are responding so positively. But in a good way.

I can’t wait ’til they hear the audio of IWCD. That’s always a pleasant experience in especially the initial listen.

Yes. But “meh” rainbow test pattern also fares better than TaaHM.

I’m taking a breather having listened to nearly the first half of the Ouroboros one.

    True that.

You can tell the level of excitement of my frugal life by how glad I am to get my weekly download of this podcast. :-P

Now that they like 7 (so far at least), I wonder what they’ll think about yet another drastic tonal change for 8 …

I’m pleased that Heath and Angela like 7 so far, although it does make me wonder if they’ll hate 8 as it’s so dramatically different.

It’s refreshing to hear opinions of RD which are honest but not cynical. Their enthusiasm for “Stoke” reminded me that it’s actually pretty good and suffers critically from its place in an unpopular series. I always enjoy 7 more than I think I will when I actually watch it.

My general feeling is that VII was a good idea not always executed well and VIII was just bad.

I get so annoyed by how uncritical the VIII documentary is. Norman is the only voice of sanity in the commentary. The VII DVD is frank and honest and one of the best.

The VII DVD as a whole is amazing. That has absolutely nothing* to do with the fact that several members of this forum appear on it.

I’m not surprised that Heath likes VII at all, it seems right up his street. Although I wonder what they’ll make of the shift in tone in the second half of the series.

I can’t see them liking the move away from SF-orientated comedy drama for VIII at all, though.

If 8 had been the end of the show, I’d be kind of pissed at the change. But knowing there’s more after and it’s back to more dramady and sci-fi allows me to think of 8 as a kind of wacky house party “break” for all involved. Just don’t ask me who’s Kid and who’s Play.

They liked “BITR” Part 1 as they thought it was promising, but were severely let down by the rest of the series.

They enjoyed “BTE” a lot more.
