I’ve signed up for it because, well, it’s free. I’m not convinced it’s official but it bloody looks it. They apparently launched very recently. If it were official you’d think TOS would have mentioned it.

Yeah, this is official. A while ago the fan club got a link to the beta version.

To this day, I have absolutely no idea what the point of it is.

Having a bit of a root around it looks like a Red Dwarf version of Myspace/facebook. You can create your own pages and wikis and stuff.

Forty bucks? They’re doing great without a gun to your head. I got my avvy for $9+shipping off Amazon, used. It’s not perfect–the pixels are a little scratched up, and the color tends to run a bit–but it’s pretty good for the price.

You just have to know where to look for the deals, man.

Why on earth does “Red Dwarf’s official social networking site” have a forum on it?

I don’t really see the point of it anyway to be honest! For a start it’s not a social network site, it’s basically a links site and the blog feed just seems to be a revolving advert for Snip’s blog, but aside from that it has it’s very own forum… so if this is offical then what about TOS forum??
It’s all very bizarre!

They may have caused a collapse in the entire avatar market. With their networks offering avatars for free, other avatar websites are having to drastically reduce the price of their avatars – sometimes to nothing, but almost always below cost. I fear this may be the end for internet avatars as we know it.
