Two Titan Teasers Today! News Posted by Ian Symes on 3rd July 2026, 10:12 With less than a fortnight until the first Red Dwarf novel for thirty years is released, the regular Friday teasers are stepping up a gear, with not one but two videos on their way this morning. First up, at 11am, it’s Welcome to Titan: And while we’re reeling from that, To Ganymede and Titan follows at noon: So welcome to Ganymede & Titan for Welcome to Titan and To Ganymede and Titan.
Jesus, Welcome To Titan is a lot more packed than expected! That will require multiple viewings. Favourite detail on first watch – McBean software. Also, Captain R Hollister?
By far the best one yet. Brilliant. So many easter eggs, references and cameos in this one that we might need a full article on it. Camille! Epideme! Weyland-Yutani! The five-star joke is also a cracker. Congratulations to whoever put this together as it’s excellent.
It being Hollister at all helps to firmly separate it from the original novel universe(s), and this will give me a couple of weeks to get used to the idea of a more GELF-dense contemporary solar system, rather than those being developed after Lister and Rimmer’s time. One universe to the side fixes it all.
Welcome to Titan is brilliant. Laughed at New Rhyl Sun Centre. And painfully transformed genitalia, there. Did we really expect anything less?
Well some of that is definitely very Rob driven isn’t it. Expect painful viruses and mutated plant genitalia. Lovely. That was a very welcome surprise given the last few teasers. Really well put together and far more than you’d ever expect for a book. I wonder how much, if any, involvement Rob had in these little marketing things because it’s clearly being done by someone with writer and or dedicated fan level knowledge of the show. And this seems to hint quite deeply at events and settings within the book.
These are the sort of videos that will likely disappear one day, so please can they be preserved? *someone at Sony has just got irrationally angry at that suggestion*
Also, Captain R Hollister? Rfank Hollister To be fair to Rob, Hollister is only given the name Frank in Back in the Red. And we are one universe to the side so … But I am amused at how immediately it’s been picked up on by us lot.
Okay, so that’s it. But wow. That was lovely. You know, I’ve actually got a tear in my eye. No, really.
SEB What an immensely nice thing to do. Thank you mystery creator of these videos that we definitely haven’t figured out by now.
Wonder if we’ll start getting them daily in the last few days’ countdown to Launch? I think that might be our lot.

I’m currently quite hungover, but I have just had a little cry at the Seb tribute. That’s what got me. Wonderful. Saw that before I even rewatched and read your lot’s names up there.

so the music in the first one reminds me of 70s Japanese synth-jazz – specifically, Space Fantasy 78, Hideki Matsutake’s album of synth/fusion covers of classic anime themes. The part at 17.00 here for example – https://youtu.be/Ldw4K2jnBo0?list=RDLdw4K2jnBo0 it’s also giving me vibes of the Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan music/video project (new-wave/Kraftwerk sounds over videos of a 70s “new town” Swift, Safe and Comfortable | Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan – YouTube
I’m very surprised they would reference anything from Doug Dwarf Given this fan service is clearly being done by a fan rather than Rob, why not?
Captain R Hollister? Only just looked at the Twitter pic that references a “clerical inconsistency in the spelling of your forename.” Seems like the artist referencing the divergence for the fans.

I’m already putting on my boots to ”kick myself”, but what is this supposed to be? It’s not a emohawk….is it?. (Space Weevil, Cat (Cat-Type-Thing anyway), Camille, Whatever that is, Kevin the Polymorph.)

I noticed the names and the SEB before it being mentioned here and I did a punch in the air and was so pleased for you guys, so cool! And they are fun little snippets in themselves it’s making me very excited for the book and 10 hours of Chris Barrie reading it too! Good times!
The 2nd to 5th most popular past times on Titan there displayed… Missing out of course the all time number one!
Finally catching up on all of these teasers and they’re bloody lovely, aren’t they? The Seb bit was particularly great, what a marvellous little tribute.
Just watched these again and it’s kinda interesting that Lister’s wearing a fingerless leather glove, very much not in keeping with his pre-accident look. I think he only wears those in V, VI and BTE (not sure about the rest of the Dave era.)

My favourite detail of the whole video might be the slight reflection of Lister you get at the start when he turns the video on. It seems to be the classic London Jets shirt.

Yes I noticed the T-shirt too. Clearly this Lister has inconsistent dress sense. I assumed that was to evoke the palmprint gag from Demons & Angels. You mean The Inquisitor?
Long, looooong time reader and listener, first time poster, but I figured it was time to engage because the last few months have been a gruelling, exciting and confusing time to be a Dwarfer that isn’t in the know. Can someone explain why these videos aren’t being shared widely by official Red Dwarf channels, or by the RD Convention page? Are things still *that* petty? Also, why does the Convention next week feel so separate and disconnected from G&T? Perhaps I am a naive man, but I expected there to be lots of Titan promotion and discussion in the convention socials and at the con itself – I also expected some kind of discussion about a tribute for Rob at it. Likewise, I thought this place would be buzzing with folk talking about plans for Nottingham, but I’m just getting crickets as an observer What goes on?
I think they’re all separate things really. I’m not sure who is really in charge of the official RD socials any more – do they have any activity at all on them these days? The convention is a more commercial-oriented one than the previous fan-oriented Dimension Jumps (and is also a lot more expensive) which probably explains the relative lack of interest around these parts. Titan is clearly its own thing and isn’t really tied to classic or even recent Red Dwarf as we know it, so I’m not surprised it’s standing alone.
Hopefully the Red Dwarf gangs on Facebook, Reddit and wherever are making an appropriate fuss over Titan’s release. I wouldn’t care normally, but it’s about commemorating Rob too.
They’re probably going “Anyone want some toast?”, “Smoke me a kipper, I’ll be back for breakfast,” and “It does mean changing the bulb.”
Welcome, wjab! I’d actually forgotten that the convention was so close, I’m entirely consumed by Titan at the moment. As Dave says, it’s a completely different event than the ones we used to enthuse over, and none of the G&T contingent are going. I hope it’s a success, it’s just not my cup of tea. If any of our regulars are going, we’d welcome a report! As for why Titan is so disconnected from everything else… well, Doug is in control of the official site (and presumably has authority over what happens on the social media accounts) and the convention, so it’s not a surprise to me that a Rob-only project isn’t being promoted much. It’s a real shame, and a sad state of affairs especially in the circumstances, but not unexpected.
I would have expected such a lack of integration 6 months ago even, but I really thought Rob’s passing would have forced those involved to grow up a little bit. It is a real shame that things aren’t more… together For various reasons (mostly growing up and living in Northern Ireland for the first half of my life) DJ was always financially inaccessible to me, and was never able to make it to any of the later ones. I was forever jealous of DJ reports in BTL in the 90s, so when the new event was announced and then Rob’s passing – I felt compelled to finally stump up and be around other fans Somewhat wary now and worried I’ve made an error in judgement, but hoping beyond hope that everyone at G&T is wrong and this will be as much fun, with community building as DJ once was and not just a weekend of people standing in line for autographs! I can still hope 😬 Anyway. VERY much looking forward to Titan and all the G&T/Dwarfcast coverage! Welcome, wjab! I get that, but you’d think especially if it was a bunch corporate know-nothings who were running the con, they’d definitely try to get some synergy with the launch of the book on the same weekend? It feels bizarre that the con just isn’t even mentioning it, even as a way to sell tickets I joined a little WhatsApp group of people going to Nottingham – the majority have said they’re excited for the book but are going to wait and buy it at the con. It feels unlikely to me that it will even be on sale at the con – which is not sold out, but I bet would sell out if they added Marshall as a guest, with a book signing. Nothing about it makes sense. But then I guess not much has made sense about how the Red Dwarf sausage gets made since the mid-90s I think they’re all separate things really. I’m not sure who is really in charge of the official RD socials any more – do they have any activity at all on them these days? It is possible that the contract Rob and Doug formed at the end of their latest kerfuffle stipulated that they are each entirely responsible for their own material (including promotion) and won’t tread on each other’s toes.
This is true, and we also don’t know if there was any stipulation about what would happen in the event of one of them dying. But as wjab says, you’d hope that common sense would prevail. Although, also worth noting that neither TOS or the RedDwarfHQ social accounts did any promotion at all for last year’s Bluray boxset or audio soundtrack release. There was, however, one tweet about Titan when it was announced in February. So I might be wrong to frame this as another act in the Grant v Naylor wars, it might just be down to general incompetence.

It’s true that Andrew Marshall could have been a really interesting guest at the convention. I believe that Kerry Shale will be there on both days which is interesting in a slightly different way …
Somewhat wary now and worried I’ve made an error in judgement, but hoping beyond hope that everyone at G&T is wrong and this will be as much fun, with community building as DJ once was and not just a weekend of people standing in line for autographs! I can still hope Whatever the brand of convention, being part of a large group of like minded Dwarf fans will always be fun, so I have no doubt everyone there will have a blast. Danny, Ian and I have a long history with the old Dimension Jump as regular attendees and then as staff, so this feels like having a little rest from side of things rather than any particular comment on whether the new convention will be good or not. I bet you’ll have a great time!

I can still hope An intense FOMO and sweet memories of DJs past led me to immediately buy a ticket the minute they went on sale last year. (I missed out on a lot of DJs, and would whine over here about not being about to afford DJ every year.) However, once I sat and thought about it, and I realised how much I’m going to have to pay in addition to my ticket (other autographs, photos, *food*…), I’m afraid I had to add myself to the list of G&T regulars who won’t be going, and sold my ticket a while ago. It’ll be a great shame to miss out on meeting a new wave of fans and long terms die-hards, but attending Dimension Jump with your mates was a big part of the experience, and really, I’m like Ian – the ComicCon style conventions aren’t really my thing. I really hope it’s a success though, and that you and everyone else attending has a good time, and aren’t disappointed.
speaking of events though, is anyone else planning to atttend the Andrew Marshall signing at Forbidden Planet London on Thursday?
