Made another version of the Series VIII premiere, this time with the intention of completely trimming out the padding. Things to look out for in this version: * New recap for ‘Nanarchy’ * Removal of the air duct scenes * Removal of the ‘French Movie Star’ gag * Removal of Dr Lucas McClaren (mostly) and his damn chair * Removal of Kryten’s physical * Original version of Rimmer’s meeting with Hollister with minor trims * Xtended Inquiry scene * Removal of Rimmer’s betrayal – he just helps Lister escape with the Luck Virus * Removal of the Data Doctor * Removal of Rimmer being taken roughly in the cupboard * Duane Dibbley is whittled down to one scene * Removal of Blue Midget dance sequence * Rimmer breaks the others out of AR instead of framing them * Editing to the scene in the lift * Replacing Rimmer getting raped with a scene from Pete Part One I really surprised myself with this one. Didn’t expect it to be so short. Hope you enjoy it. June 18, 2014 at 11:30 pm #210294 StilianidesParticipant Despite all of the cuts, this still seems overlong. Things like the lemonade gag and Yes, Mr Shouty should have been cut if possible. And the Cat`s examination should also have been left out. June 18, 2014 at 11:38 pm #210295 StilianidesParticipant Plus scenes like Kryten`s conversation with Kochanski could have gone. Any scene not containing either Rimmer or Lister basically should be omitted. Kochanski`s crying scene is painful. Perhaps a better premiere would be for the crew to go on a quest to find the original hologram Rimmer, “Search for Spock” style… June 22, 2014 at 2:58 pm #210303 MoonlightParticipant Or they could’ve twisted the crew resurrection angle into doing a series of effectively pre-accident Dwarf, albeit with Cat and Kryten present. That at least would have been an interesting retool. July 11, 2014 at 11:46 pm #210327 srmcd1Participant Today, I completed an edit wherein I condensed the entirety of Series 8 down from four hours to ninety minutes. All five stories compressed and whittled down until that’s all that’s left. And I could probably make it shorter if I gave it another go. Somehow, the prison scenario works better as one long obstacle for them to get around, and with the original ending, it simply acts as a temporary problem before they get the ship back to themselves. I don’t think I’ll post it, but I wanted you all to know – it IS possible. July 18, 2014 at 10:09 am #210363 Jonathan CappsKeymaster > I don’t think I’ll post it DO IT. July 18, 2014 at 6:54 pm #210364 srmcd1Participant Well, since you’re in admin, I suppose I could… I did the edit over again, so I will post a new thread later on entitled, “Series VIII ~ the 73 minute edit” July 18, 2014 at 10:31 pm #210365 Jonathan CappsKeymaster Excellent. It’s a slightly insane prospect so I’m very interested to see how it flows. July 19, 2014 at 4:17 am #210366 srmcd1Participant Okay, I’m still trying to find a place to host the file – so far Dailymotion doesn’t like videos that are over an hour in length and I don’t trust YouTube with something like this – so for now, I’ll just give you a general idea of how the story goes….
