    Like:

    Why didn’t David Ross play Kryten’s ‘brother’ Able in Series VII (was he ever even considered)? Would’ve made more sense if you consider that Lister had to rebuild the Kryten ‘noid after the original crashed his bike – hence the difference in appearance between Llew and Ross.

    Any other missed tricks?

    Probably because Bobby co-wrote the ep and so had the opportunity to play an ‘alternate’ Kryten?

    By that point, David Ross was a portly fellow and wouldn’t have been particularly suitable to re-don the Kryten makeup.

    But bringing him in to dub Krytens voice when his corrupted files are removed in Series VIII and he resets to factory settings would have been both quite funny and a sly wink to us, the hardcore and hateful uber-fans.

    Actually, there’s plenty of dialogue in the Series II episode ‘Kryten’ for an intrepid fan to dub in some of David Ross’ voice as the reconstructed Kryten (Robert Llewwedjfiefhin) goes about his chores in Series VIII and then switch back and forth as his corrupted files become dominant again.

    I’ve often thought Kryten should have had the posh English voice in that photo sequence. You know the birthday (or android equivalent) celebration in time-slides with the dancing and all.)

    As for bringing in Paul Ross, well even if that had been possible, I’m glad that they stuck with Robert Llewelyn for both. I loved his portrayal of Able, and it makes sense that if Kryten’s programming had corrupted over time due to reprogramming and ‘errant emotions’ that Able would have too (Outrazone?)

    Actually Bobby tried to write himself out of the episode to give himself more freedom. I.e. he had his head explode the rest of the show was the others trying to fix him. It’s therefore ironic that he ended up doing more. (Mind you I think this version is probably more interesting than the original.)

    David Ross would have never played Able, the character wasn’t theatrically legit…
