    Either this has passed everyone by or nobody cares, but seeing as it was announced nearly 2 weeks ago it seems odd no one has mentioned it.

    Cesar UK have announced a range of Red Dwarf outfits coming this summer. Which, if nothing else, is going to make it a great deal easier to cheat at the Dimension Jump costume competition this year!

    Concepts were teased at the Spring Fair in Birmingham this week, and soon reddwarf.co.uk will be able to show you what they’re up to. The company already counts Marvel, Family Guy (love the Peter Griffin mask), The Simpsons and Barbie among its licenses – and now Rimmer, Lister, Cat and Kryten will be added to that list!

    “We’re really excited to be working on Red Dwarf and can’t wait to show the fans what we’ve been working on,” said Lynette Norris, Cesar’s Marketing and Product Development Manager. “The show has so many great outfits it was hard to know where to start – but we think we’ve made some pretty special choices.”

    Expect to see the first releases this summer. Rumours that a ‘body oil Rimmer’ costume is in development have been denied.

    Interestingly they seem to have chosen to go with the series I costumes for Rimmer and Lister.

    Costume breakdowns:
    Lister – cargo pants, t-shirt, shirt and hat
    Rimmer – cargo pants, embroidered shirt and tie
    Cat – 3/4 length zebra print faux fur coat, wig and pair of fangs
    Kryten – full printed suit and headpiece

    I wonder if, as far as the Lister costume goes, the reason they didn’t go with his ‘classic’ leathers is because they’re covered in various patches and badges which would each need to be cleared for mass production.

    I heard of a similar type of story recently where there were plans to release a 1:1 scale Ghostbusters proton pack, but it too was covered with tiny, little stickers and other trademarked items, so the project was shelved. Also, I think another company had the rights to make GB costumes (as opposed to replica props), so technically, the pack would’ve had to have been released ‘non-wearable’ (i.e. without any straps, etc).

    Shame, really. I wouldn’t be surprised if the packs in the new film are redesigned just enough to allow for a future release.

    Would still love to get my hands on a replica Rimmer badge & ‘H’ box set, though.

    It’s possible. In the case of Lister I?d also venture that it’s a damn sight easier to do that costume than the others. Rimmer less so but if your doing Lister in series I costume I guess it makes sense to do Rimmer that way too. I’m surprised there’s no mention of an H to be honest.

    Good point! I must admit, it’d be difficult to release a wearable H unless they came in packs of ten, or something. The glue would never last, surely.

    I’d much prefer a Mugs Murphy t-shirt to a London Jets one.
