    Right, sensible-ish question for you all.
    Finally started on a project that i’ve been talking to some of you about for quite a while,
    Which, essentially, is a wiki intended to catalogue all the RD merchandise and memorabilia that’s out there, not just currently available stuff but everything that’s been released over the years – starting with all the official UK stuff.
    out-of-print books, DVD’s that are no longer available, T-shirts that probably havent got any print left on them – absosmegginglutely everything…
    Eventually i’d like to expand this to all the merch released worldwide, props that have been released to the wild, that kind of thing.

    My original plan was to call this Smegipedia following the wiki naming convention,
    But the point has been raised (Cheers Danny) that Smegopedia is how people would assume it’s spelt – given the spelling of Encyclopedia…

    So, my retarded question is this;
    Would anybody like any toast? /slap

    What do you all think? which name would be more of preference;
    smegIpedia or smegOpedia ? – Perhaps something else entirely?
    or is this just shit idea and it’s time i went home?

    Ta.

    I think Smegopedia looks better, but then (as with Wiki) it feels like it should be Smegipedia. Basically I’m no help at all… sorry!

    I think Smegipedia. I don’t entirely know why, but there you go.

    Sorry Jezz, but my reasoning is that I reckon people would search for Smegopedia it looks right, I might be wrong.

    I get why it should be Smegipedia. Too many i’s though. It’s too i-ey.

    Etymologically. Smegpedia would mean education about smeg. Smegipedia and Smegopedia are truncated pun based hybrids the first alluding to wiki the easy to edit online database commonly termed, and the latter to the more pedestrian original concept of a work most returned to consult.

    Though Astemeyer correctly postulates that Smegi and Smego are in fact the same thing observed from different precepts.

    This here topic induced a major flashback of my first Red Dwarf newsgroup – may have been alt.tv or even a Yahoo group – and voting on whether we fans should call ourselves smeggies, smeggers or smegheads. And then there was a small contingent who would have nothing to do with any smeg moniker; they insisted on “dwarfers.” Can’t find it in any archives – too long ago, I guess. Anyone else recall this?

    Sorry, back to your question. Um. I guess Smegopedia does look better to me. I googled ipedia and opedia; the first page of ipedia results were all Wikipedia articles, whereas the opedia entries were Webopedia, Investopedia, Stitch-opedia, Smart-opedia and various other opedias. Looks like people generally go with the o in times like these.

    You really are a bunch of neutrals aren’t you!?
    50/50 I/O split…
    Am not completely sold of the root being smeg,
    But there’s no other word(ing) I can think of that fits appropriately, conjuring both a sense of dwarfiness and identifying itself as merch/prop centric – smeg(x)pedia is the closest I can think of so far, but…
    I don’t know – i suppose we go down another track altogether and just have a disassociated name?
    Fascist Dictator Monthly?
    DivaDroid Product catalogue 3012?
