Anyone up for playing? Nearest I came (without going down the obvious “celebrity names” route) was two scenes with ‘Medium’. Based on this list, “web” is supposedly the 71st most common word in English, but only occurs as part of other words in the show (Norweb, webbed). …Which makes it 0 instances rather than 1, so doesn’t count, and I might as well have not bothered with the research and just said znhmibgfmb. August 8, 2025 at 11:53 am #309782 Flap JackParticipant There should be a Smega-Drive premium mode which removes the cap on search results. Then we can find out which words occur the most times (excluding pronouns, articles and connecting words). August 8, 2025 at 12:00 pm #309783 Nick RParticipant “Multiply” appears twice if you count it appearing within “multiplying”: But “multiplying” only appears once: August 8, 2025 at 12:02 pm #309784 Nick RParticipant Clipper August 8, 2025 at 12:06 pm #309785 Nick RParticipant Philandering Numpties August 8, 2025 at 12:14 pm #309786 PodeyParticipant There should be a Smega-Drive premium mode which removes the cap on search results. August 9, 2025 at 1:58 am #309835 TechnopeasantParticipant “Epicure” appears in Salt – An Epicure’s Delight and in Out of Time. “Higgledy-piggledy” appears in Balance of Power and… Out of Time. “Miranda” occurs three times, while “Iranian” and “piranhas” only once. Critically it’s never the same Miranda. August 9, 2025 at 5:56 am #309842 clemParticipant Drainage Illuminated Beehive Farmer What’s the most Smeglewhacks you can get in a single SmegaDrive caption? August 9, 2025 at 8:38 pm #309869 TechnopeasantParticipant “What on Io was that” is the first other mention that springs to mind. Ionian nerve grip as well, if that counts. More directly “why on Io would they have food?” in Rimmerworld. Beehive Farmer As a ten plus year veteran of the apiculture industry I almost feel insulted. August 9, 2025 at 10:05 pm #309873 Nick RParticipant And by posting these two at the same time I hope it’s clear which words are the relevant ones. I was trying to find a good WW2 quote that I could edit with a Dunkirk reference, and I found that the words “retreat” and “liberate” only appear in the scene below. It’s surprising “retreat” isn’t used more, given Rimmer’s combination of cowardice and fondness for military strategy: Also, this is the only use of the words “manhood” and “platter”: August 9, 2025 at 10:26 pm #309874 clemParticipant I already posted a frame with two doubles (configuration and extraordinarily) and two singles (juxtaposition and apposite). So two Smeglewhacks, then. I just wonder whether it’s possible to beat two in the same caption. I’ve only managed it with made-up words: August 9, 2025 at 11:47 pm #309876 RunawayTrainParticipant Olives August 10, 2025 at 1:22 am #309882 International DebrisParticipant Quattro, formaggio, olives, there’s three. August 10, 2025 at 5:27 am #309889 TechnopeasantParticipant Now here is one. Does clitoris count or not? In Polymorph it is only evoked in acronym form, while it is mentioned as a proper word in Timewave. Therefore… August 10, 2025 at 5:46 am #309891 TechnopeasantParticipant “Circumcision” is only directly referred to in the Dave era, while in the BBC series it was only mentioned as “a certain Jewish operation”. Also the only time Jewish is mentioned by name, though obviously not by concept. And on the topic of an episode about both Jews and operations, “bunion” in Lemons (“plasters” is also mentioned for corns in Emohawk). “Insemination” only appears in Polymorph as well, though is obviously referenced in Psirens and Ouroboros (“gamete” only appearing there). August 10, 2025 at 6:02 am #309892 TechnopeasantParticipant Just remembered that Thornton was referred to as “circumcised” in Back in the Red: Part III August 10, 2025 at 8:44 am #309895 Nick RParticipant “Abyss”: (“Nothingness” is also used in The Inquisitor.)
