Whilst searching for something earlier, it occurred to me there must a Dave Gorman-esque game in trying to find words that produce only one hit on the SmegaDrive.

    Anyone up for playing?

Nearest I came (without going down the obvious “celebrity names” route) was two scenes with ‘Medium’.

Realised after posting that last one that jewellery is actually a good shout. Last one’s a two-fer.

And yet it’s been included twice in this thread. 😉

A triple! Offspring, village, and weathergirl.

Does it still count if it’s said twice in the same unedited caption?

    Another example of that:

Hey, I don’t see “weathergirl” in that caption. What, you don’t trust the Smega-Drive to know the difference?

One is a girl into weather, the other is a girl made of weather.

I sometimes need three Smega Drive frames to pick up on the casual sexism in Red Dwarf and society. “Weather girl” ffs!

Is Arthur Smith really saying “Jingle Bells” here?

Is backward and forwards count as their own unique whacks, then jingle and bells are both

How odd. That bit isn’t even reversed though is it? I mean he just does it manually, as it were, like ‘Erskip’ for bitter. So did Arthur Smith/Rob and Doug work out what ‘jingle bells’ sounds like backwards, and put it in just as a weird non sequitur. Or is it just a strange coincidence that the best way to say ‘Same again’ backwards is to say jingle bells?

Edit: That wouldn’t make sense, because of course he doesn’t say jingle bells, not forwards anyway. Might have to check Backwards – Forwards to see what it actually sounds like.

Yeah, Arthur Smith can sing Jingle Bells backwards. Exhibit A: https://youtu.be/amTL_JkN81E?t=571

That’s all well and good. But that isn’t what he says in the episode.

as Clem points out it’s Arthur saying Erskib, not “bitter” reversed

We’re getting confused between two different lines in the same bit. When Lister asks what he’s drinking, he does indeed say “erskib”. But then when he’s undowned his pint, he says to the barmaid the words “jingle bells” backwards, which is subtitled as “same again”.

I will admit to being a bit of a smart-arse here with this, but after finding out that the Smegadrive/subs are being used legitimately for the hard of hearing. I may have to stop pulling this shit.

You don’t get that by searching for ‘jackass’. Isn’t that the game, as per Podey’s original post?  The word ‘porter’ only appears once, here:

But searching for it also brings up several instances of ‘teleporter’ and ‘transporter’, so it’s not a true Smeglewhack, I’d argue.

Does “Armageddon” count or is it a proper noun? They only say it once, as in, “Transmit the Armageddon Virus!”

Also, dingleberry from Backwards. A very specific, one-time insult.
