Just saw an ad for this, thought some of you guys might be interested:

Looked pretty good as a trailer, guess we’ll have to see if the humour will translate to video well enough.

I loved the books. The radio series wasn’t bad either tbh.

I thought this looked interesting – although I haven’t read the books for years.
Not the casting I would have expected, but I’ve no objection to Stephen Mangan in principle.

Apparently the story and character of Dirk bears no real remsembalnce to the books. And it’s got Stephen Mangan in it. Needless to say, I’ll be watching and probably tutting/shouting throughout.

In other words it’s a random drama that they just decide to call Dirk Gently?
And the point of doing that would be…?

I’m already tutting “where’s the hat”.

I think I prefer Dirk aloof and a bit charming in his character which we are supposed to believe in but all other characters find barmy cus of his ideas. Here he’s half there, but too agressive and frantic out shouting even tennant who.

I like darren boyd, I agree they arent following the character, but the books ideas seem to be there, some of the plots must be in there, because so many of the characters are in the cast list. But this is a part one isnt it? in the hope of a series.

I’ll watch, but I’m less likely to buy a dvd of this based on what I’ve seen so far, and I’ve got most other DNA related stuff.

I did do a bit of Tutting, but a hat wouldnt have worked, as far as making the character into a contained episodes style tv series if thats the intension long term, there was lots to like I think in this, I enjoyed it very much, plenty of scenes and theme’s from the book done well in new contexts in an entirely new shorter story, I felt at moments like I was watching something Tom Baker who/hitch hikers ford prefect like. It’s not the book, but it felt like a worthy tv show.

To me it seemed a poor attempt at a geekier Jonathan Creek. It didn’t feel in any way like an Adams work and I didn’t take to Mangan at all.

Yeah, it might have helped if they’d used any of his dialogue, characterisation, jokes or tone. OH WELL.

    I liked it. A lot.

It’s the show Sherlock wishes it could be.
