Just messing about really, but while out and about I’ve been putting the parts of this together in Garage Band for fun mainly, so please excuse the demo-like quality as it wasn’t really done with the good gear I’d normally use. I’ve taken certain liberties with the tune hummed by Craig Charles, but tried to keep it relatively close to what people know. I’ve also included a couple of short stings. Wasn’t sure if it was worth putting up here, but having done it what the hell, it might be of interest to someone.

It’s writing the additional lyrics that’s holding me up. I’m miserable with lyrics; resorted to using some RD ep titles – to good effect, I think.

I thought about extending it, but it was really only done as a time killer on trains etc when i didnt want to work on my own songs. Plus I was just doing it with my iPad and mini MIDI controller, so I just did it with what was there as it didn’t seem worthngoing to town on when there’s a load of proper songs I ought to be getting on with demoing.

I love it! Makes me want to hear your other songs actually. And it’s always nice to be able to connect a voice with typed words and an avatar.

Also enjoyed that both of us stayed true to what’s given (Rob and Doug’s lyrics and Lister’s hummed melody) yet came up with a completely different result. With the chords you used, I hear the song in a new way now. (Mine is very bluesy.)

Ah well thanks. I had planned to do the same, but i’m trying to avoid being bluesy in anything at the moment, as I generally play with the band in blues venues outside London which want eveyone to sound like Stevie Ray Vaughan and play the same old Hendrix covers. When it reached the point that a popular band was doing a 20 minute version of Voodoo Chile I decided to use prog and funk instead, largely just to annoy them. Well if you really want to hear the original material (and frankly God help you do,) theres some up on the Venture South SoundCloud page. It’s mainly unfinished mixes from a cd that never got released on there though. I see no point in updating it until we record a cd of the material we have actually been playing for the past 2 years though.

To be honest, far more interestingly on SoundCloud is my friend George from the band Storm Engine. I’d imagine there’s a fair few people familiar with them without realising it, as half of the band are also in Matt Berry’s band and performed with him at the end of one episode of Screenwipe. George is one of the most talented musicians I know.

Fine by me, I allowed downloads on those tracks on SoundCloud as with those I’m more than happy for people to use them as they wish. Just make sure to credit Grant Naylor for the lyrics and Craig for the Melody.

Urban myth I believe. Put it this way, if he was trying to sing it to that tune he did an awful job.

The words sung by Lister to the tune of ‘clementine’ seem to be a different song entirely. As he’s whipping about the corridors at the start of Future Echoes you can hear the lyrics:

‘…excavating for a mine, lived an old Plutonian miner and his daughter Clementine…’

Incidentally, if you want it for that Carl, then do you want an instrumental version without the horrible vocals that I hate? I have one if so, it just needs uploading. Id offer to remove the theme tune from the solo at the end considering the copyright issues, but I’ve been bouncing the tracks as it wasn’t a serious project so I can’t seperate it from the rest of the synth anymore.

He sings both Clementine and Lunar City 7. He sings LC7 twice: as the very first lines of “The End,” then in Future Echoes as he is shaving. He sings Clementine at the beginning of Future Echoes as he’s riding the motorbike.

There’s a later episode, forgot which one, where Rimmer complains about how Lister is constantly humming, then he does an impression of it. I only recently noticed that the tune Rimmer hums in that impression is also Lunar City 7.

Fair enough. I never really like my vocals or guitar playing to be honest. The only reason I sing in Venture South is that, by his own admission, the bass player Rob is tone deaf.

Thanks, although I don’t quite agree as yours was obviously completely musically competent too! Also we had different goals in mind, I wanted to make a full length song out of it.
