Nothing confirmed yet — Robert Llewellyn (@bobbyllew) August 4, 2009 “I don’t know for certain but there is a lot of talk of a new RD series next year. August 4, 2009 at 5:51 pm #101846 Kris ‘Drivaaar’ CarterParticipant So hang on… *does maths*… that means we can expect new RD in about a decade! WoohoO!! August 4, 2009 at 5:57 pm #101847 SkyAndSunParticipant When it comes to RD ‘a lot of talk’ doesn’t mean as much as perhaps it should… still, nice to read… August 4, 2009 at 7:47 pm #101849 siParticipant At least there’s talk, which is more than there would be if the Beeb folk were in charge. August 4, 2009 at 9:12 pm #101857 Ben PaddonParticipant So hang on? *does maths*? that means we can expect new RD in about a decade! WoohoO!! My God! A million years! August 5, 2009 at 12:35 am #101869 pfmParticipant God I’d love a new series. August 6, 2009 at 5:03 pm #101940 Kris ‘Drivaaar’ CarterParticipant I’m God, but it’s a bit of a drag actually. August 6, 2009 at 5:06 pm #101941 hummingbirdParticipant There’s no pleasing some people. August 6, 2009 at 5:17 pm #101943 redhead85Participant A new series would be cool – however if Dave did give it another go I think they’d need to do full 27-30 minute shows (40 minute slots on Dave). Don’t know what other people think but the broadcast versions of Back to Earth seemed very short to me… August 6, 2009 at 5:22 pm #101945 hummingbirdParticipant I’d like to see it given a full hour (40 mins + ads) in the style of a lot of US shows. Easy to schedule and we’d feel as if we were getting our money’s worth. Although it’s never gonna happen. August 6, 2009 at 6:00 pm #101946 pfmParticipant BtE showed it would be difficult to do a satisfying 22-23 minute Dwarf episode. You really need that extra 5 minutes. A series of 6 in the 40 minute timeslot would suit me. August 6, 2009 at 6:14 pm #101947 Jonathan CappsKeymaster I think there are enough repeats that already run to 40 minutes in prime time to make this not an issue. Provided GNP decide to do a full half hour on content, that is. August 7, 2009 at 12:34 am #101954 Ben PaddonParticipant BtE showed it would be difficult to do a satisfying 22-23 minute Dwarf episode. No, BtE showed that when you plan to do two 22-minute specials and write the story with a view to including an extended Directors Cut on the DVD, but then find yourself unable to trim the story enough to fit two 22-minute episodes and so have to extend it into a third but, as a result, have a large amount of “dead space” in the first part and a considerable overlap in the first cliffhanger, then it’s difficult to do a satisfying 22-23 minute Dwarf episode. The 22-minute edits of Red Dwarf shown on UKTV Gold 2 during its early days (before it became UKTV G2, which was before it became Dave) showed that you can still retain what is essentially the key elements of Red Dwarf, albeit losing some of the jokes, without damaging the overall integrity. (That being said, I still hated those edits. They cut out some of my favourite jokes.))
