Home Forums Ganymede & Titan Forum Onto the matter of alternate series – How different would VIII’s setting have been?

Now we all know that had the unfortunate tiff between Rob and Doug never took place, well, we would have less to complain about for one. However, I was wondering if series VIII setting would have been like; I can imagine the boys from the dwarf would indeed find their mothership as per Doug’s VIII. But I believe the prison setting would never have come to light. Doug wanted to make series VIII remarkably different from the average VII, and he brought these changes in his stride, however had Rob never left, VII would have been a much more enjoyable beast indeed. Therefore VIII would not have to go back to basics to rekindle fans love of the show. What are your opinions on VIII setting had Rob stayed on?

I think given the end of Backwards (the novel), that it would have been business as usual.

Probably VIII would have fucking been set in the fucking Dark Ages or some shit.

    > the boys from the dwarf would indeed find their mothership

Don’t know about a mothership, maybe a motherfucker. That would have been better.

Serious? Do you mean Sirius Black?

You’ll know if performingmonkey’s being serious, because he’ll be dead.

I think it was one of these “joke” things, based on the fact that Rob’s first post-Dwarf project was a godawful sitcom set in… the dark ages. Called… The Dark Ages.

I was just trying to be funny and failing miserably as always, making myself out to be someone who sucks at life. Now, unless my girlfriend’s real first name is ‘Life’, I know I don’t suck at it.

Incidentally, I’ve just realised, this very moment, I kid you not, how simply idiotic it is that my name is ‘performingmonkey’. I mean, how sad’s that?

Didn’t you use to call yourself something else ages ago?

I vaguely remember you doing – but can’t remember what…

To be honest, I saw that comment and did a lol, so well done.

It was probably ‘overmydeadbody’ which I used to use on various forums. ‘performingmonkey’ is a stupid pseudonym I’ve used for recordings/writings that I don’t want my actual name on.

Forget the name…I want to know the story behind the avatar.

“Small monkeys are trained to perform various tricks on stage”

Thankyou for bringing Red Dwarf back into this thread!

Incidentally, don’t assume I actually condone the training of monkeys for use in monkey theatre. Training them to play tennis though is a worthwhile and considerably rewarding pastime. Also, teaching them to wank you off (someone really did that, I remember reading about it). Anyway, Red Dwarf…

I definitely think the G+T team should pool their resources and invest in a monkey theater in which the performers will re-enact classic Red Dwarf scripts.

Who the hell told you about our Simian Smegheads?

We can’t keep anything a secret in this place can we?

We managed to get them do to the bit where Rimmer impersonates a monkey, but that’s as far as we’ve got. We’re getting there. They’re rehearing their lines at the moment…
