Came across it on social media, but am very sorry to hear that Jake Abraham, the alternate Lister from The Inquisitor, has passed away aged 56 after a short battle with prostate cancer. More information can be found in the Liverpool Echo.

That’s sad to hear. Somehow I never made the connection that it was the same actor in Lock Stock, he was very good in that too.

    Demons and Angels, as well.

    Eh? Come again?

Yeah, this was a shock to hear about. 56 is no age. I don’t know where I’d put sperm-in-law Lister in the pantheon of guest roles, but he was good, and he was better than the other Jake for sure.

… I am also curious to know what role Jake Abraham played in Demons & Angels. Maybe he was the one who really directed it after Juliet May was gone.

I think Jake was Low Lister in D & A – according to TV Tropes he doubles as Low Lister when he and Craig are in the same scene?.

Cancer does not care how old you are. My mother’s daughter and my half-sister – 10 months old (brain tumor that would have started when in my mother’s womb). My maternal grandmother – dead at 50 from colon cancer.

I don’t know for sure whether or not he’s in the episode (I never thought that was Craig who fell out of the cupboard at the end), but sites like TV Tropes and IMDb are riddled with Red Dwarf misinformation.

The two episodes were filmed one after the other so I guess it’s not totally out of the question, but it does seem a stretch that they would need him. There’s not really any point where you see both Lister’s on screen together that would warrant it I don’t think?

Cupboard at the end is a cut away shot so would have just been filmed separately and when they’re together in the drive/science room I don’t think you really see any shots that would need a “double” are there?

I often wonder with Demons & Angels how much of it was actually shot on the night, given the number of split screen shots and costume changes that would be involved. I’m kind of surprised they didn’t just do a full Bodyswap no-audience job for that one.

He, the smeg, was perfectly cast as an alternate Lister. RIP

It says on TUA too that he was a “Lister stand In” in D&A.

It’s a cracking film. Stephen “Bear Strangler McGee” Marcus is in it too. And Danny of course.

Yeah, they were more recognisable for me at the time.

It spawned a lot of inferior copycats but I remember loving the original when it first came out.

Well huh, I guess it’s true then. Cool.

That’s a shame. Seemed like a smeggin’ good Lister. Cancer sucks.

Oof, that’s so sad.  I know cancer in general doesn’t care about age, but 56 *is* young for prostate cancer.  My heart goes out to his family and friends.

“Doctor Who” still holds the most tragic cast or guest actor “record” – Darren Plant, Baby Benton in “The Time Monster”, died of SIDS before his first birthday.

    #289424

Poor baby Darren. That’s just so tragic. Jesus.

As for the Twilight Zone, the “record” that no one would want to have: Judith Barsi (1978-88)

(Barsi appears on screen in an installment of a TZ incarnation. The younger Renee Chen and Myca Le who died with Vic Morrow don’t appear in the finished 1983 TZ movie)

Not to be too morbid, but I suppose Red Dwarf’s is Francine Walker-Lee, one of the handmaidens from Terrorform. She was killed in a car accident three years later.

Agreed. With Judith, you only have to hear her work in the Land Before Time or All Dogs.. to realise just how much you want to invent a time drive and sic a rogue simulant onto Jozsef Barsi. At least that “father” died the way he deserved – alone and unloved.

Does no-one else think the screencaps and captions kind of alters the tone of the subject matter of this thread?

Yes, I don’t really understand what is happening in this thread at all.

Does anyone else remember when this thread was about the passing of Jake Abraham?
