What’s the current situation with Dwarf screening/streaming, here in the UK, at end of 2021.

Are series 1 to VIII still being repeated from time to time on Dave? But no longer appear now on demand after broadcast on UKTVplay streaming app?  (X to TPL are of course uktv play streaming app.)

Or has series 1 to VIII now become a streaming only option from Britbox in the UK.  Is it also on Sky Go &/0r Now tv? is streaming as part of a sub package to those as well? Will it continue to be for long?

I know you can buy it via Apple or Prime or possibly google play.   It hasn’t aired a series on BBC since 2007, (Marooned 2014)     Is this an expanding or contracting situation the show currently finds itself in?  Your thoughts please…

& yes I just watch my DVD’s you dont have to say that bit.

I’m subscribed to the Britbox channel through Amazon Prime Video, so I can use the Prime Video apps to watch Red Dwarf, up to Dave era.

According to my Amazon Prime video account (UK), Red Dwarf is leaving BritBox in 2 weeks.

The best outcome is that Red Dwarf is removed from all streaming sites, so that people are forced to watch the episodes by taping UK Gold repeats, as Cloister intended.

Series 1-III will be the Remastered versions, of course.

I’d like it to be somewhere, I have them physically on three formats, but I’m lazy.

Idle speculation, but is there any way it could be connected to GNP’s current inability to move forward with any other Dwarf stuff while the legal wranglings are ongoing?

I shouldn’t have thought so.  Whatever is going on within GNP currently is about who can make more Red Dwarf right? Not who overall has ownership of it. GNP can negotiate distribution rights to its library of content as much as it likes I’d have thought.

Maybe they’re not to keep things simpler, but I don’t think there’d be anything stopping them.

What even are the state of things anyway? We don’t know much do we. Doug for reasons unknown left GNP, and was possibly pushed out. He claims they owe him money. They claim there’s not actually anything stopping him making more Red Dwarf. That’s about it.

Thw truth is probably really banal and just lots of crossed wires and a bit of grievance resulting in some sabre rattling and court stuff that will just take time to smooth out.

I think there is stuff stopping him making new Red Dwarf or it’d be under way by now rather than him planning for this non-Dwarf project with the cast instead.

You’re right though, we don’t know much about the state of things and the streaming rights stuff could be a completely separate issue.

17 out of 20, got 3 of the last 4 wrong. It’s not an episode I’ve particularly watched more than any other, but I did love the medical unit / “it’s clean” scene when I first got the DVD.

The TOS update did not give any news of streaming availability. It’s all about Craig Charles’ imminent TV projects.

Would be kind of funny if they snuck it in though.

I suppose it’s not really a news item they want to publish, especially if they currently can’t do anything about it due to side effects of the legal shenanigans but I just vaguely recall TOS telling us it was leaving Netflix, so I thought they’d mention it.

:O  :O  :O  Prime has a ‘shuffle episodes’ feature!!!  Exactly what I’ve been wanting, and resigned myself never to have for RD (my digital copies are mostly series-long).  WOW!  I think it’s just within each series, BUT STILL!

Hey, rewatching The End on Blu ray made me curious – is anyone with Amazon Prime able to verify whether they replaced the song in the funeral scene like they did on Netflix?

If they did, I’d kind of want them to just choose a new song every time it goes to a new streaming service. Why not.

Just checked Amazon Prime and they’ve replaced it with Please Release Me.

They have the original audio, not the replacement track.

Good to know they sorted that out. In fact, it not being sorted out might have even been a factor in it being off UK streaming for a while. It’s possible.

Almost is weird so I had a look.  They don’t have Back to Earth.  I wonder why that is?  Has it not been available on there for a while does anyone know?  Is it available anywhere? Is Doug trying to bury it?

Very weird. Back to Earth being excluded from streaming (unless you pay for it individually) has been something of a trend. I can’t imagine why anyone would want to bury it – it wasn’t that bad. It’s like they accidentally signed some sort of deal for BtE only, which made including it in subscription-or-free streaming either impossible or prohibitively expensive.

It’s a glaring omission, because as we all know, Back to Earth is Season 9.

UKTV Play on Twitter said it was a right issue, meaning they can’t get the rights.  Which is odd seeing as they made it. Only them and GNP would have the right’s I’d have thought, unless there’s another service out there with only the rights to BtE which sounds absurd and I’ve not seen it.

So again, I come back to the question, is someone trying to suppress it because they don’t feel it’s good enough. Which is bonkers when you consider series VII and VIII exist.
