My dad used to have that t-shirt many moons ago. The back used to say ‘Better Smeg Than Dead’ – a rather grating misquote haha.

I’ve got the Lister and the Ace Rimmer t-shirts from play.com – the XL sizes make fab nightwear!

    Yeah, that’s pretty retro.

It’s not a misquote when the T-shirt came out over a year before the episode which included the line!

    Ooh hark at Mr Know-it-all.

I’m not sure I could handle my girlfriend wearing something with Craig Charles’ face on it when we were in bed. Chris Barrie’s maybe…

Ooooooooooooh get youuuu! :-) Didn’t know that.

    > I?m not sure I could handle my girlfriend wearing something with Craig Charles? face on it when we were in bed. Chris Barrie?s maybe?

Yeah my husband is never overly enamoured when he’s trying it on. “I can’t do this with him watching…”

    > Ooooooooooooh get youuuu! :-) Didn?t know that.

It was around the Series V T-shirt boom. (History books must surely mention this?!) The line at the time – when Dwarf fans were ‘smeggies’ – implying that it’s better to be Dwarf-related than extinct.

Of course, the term ‘smeg’ never had that ‘I belong to fandom’ meaning within the show itself (closest they ever got was ‘Dwarfers’ in Series VI). So when the show used a variation, the phrase was reversed – being smeg, as per the usual interpretations of the expletive, is worse than death.

It’s a rare case of art mirroring merchandise. See also: George Lucas 1983-present.

He probably means the Mr Flibble on your hand…

Now…I’ve had to delete something there, if I wasn’t sticking with my promise to tone things down a touch I could go a lot further down that sticky road…

Btw, after reading Endless Night I think I’ve had the smutty steam knocked out of me.

Well done, Ian Symes’ smeg list!

Wasn’t that a mini series? – “A Brief History of Dwarf – the Rise and Fall (and Rise?) of the GrantNaylor Empire”, including the Descent into VIII, the Movie years, the Breaking of the BBC Alliance, and the Marriage into the House of Dave.

That penguin isn’t permanantly attached to my hand, you know :-P

    Ah see now I’m disappointed.

    > Btw, after reading Endless Night I think I?ve had the smutty steam knocked out of me.

Can’t handle the smut, keep out of the slash section ;-) Took me ten years to build up the bloody courage to write a slash (especially without giggling inanely like a schoolgirl at the naughty words) but the reviewers on there kept badgering me so I thought meh, why not. Do you tend to frequent the ff.net site or did you make the one special visit for my stuff only to projectile vomit?

Methinks the monkey is new to slash. There’s far more explicit slash than Endless Night out there.

I’ve written a few things…and no not under bloody ‘performingmonkey’. I’ve not read all your stuff but the pre-BtE one is really good.

    Dwarf slash, perhaps.

I have actually had slash written about me before. Sad, but true.

All I can say is, I don’t read fan fiction.

Why have people put videos of them pissing on youtube? Do people just suddenly think “oh I want to watch a guy pissing” *click* *click* *click* “hurray!”.

If Colin Baker made a video of him pissing and put it on YouTube, you’d watch.

‘Rimmer’s Return’? *bows* Thank you sir. Really need to crack on with that fic – I’ve just finished writing a script for the Red Dwarf Animated lads in the meantime.

    > I?ve written a few things?and no not under bloody ?performingmonkey?.

What’s your author name, I’ll check it out.

Ah miss Redhead, I still need to finish your script. I’m liking what I’ve read so far… apologies for the tardiness.

No worries – the guys emailed me to say they’d like to use it for the series, which was really great. Pete did a fab amend on one of the lines too! Any amends/feedback you’ve got would be much appreciated.
