GAH! Had one of these moments at work today.

Basically my manager (who everyone hates) and my big big boss (who everyone likes) have asked for ‘anonymous feedback following the company pay changes over the last six months and negative feelings in the office’. No shit there’s bad feelings in the office – I’nm earning 30% less than I did last year and my manager is a bitch to all of us!

So I emailed both the managers back with my feedback (very honest but very professional and flattering of management) saying I didn’t really feel the need to keep anonymous as I’d voiced my displeasure with certain situations in team meetings before.

PROBLEM IS I forgot to remove the email address for the rest of the team when responding. OOPS.

My manager gave me a funny look from her desk and asked ‘did you mean to send that to everyone?’ I bluffed and said ‘of course, I’m very happy here but have suggestions for change rather than being cloak and dagger about it all and bitching behind management’s back.’ She replied with ‘good that’s what I like to hear!’

Total Rimmer fist in mouth moment but I may have gotten away with it. Especially as I’ve been getting email and verbal congratulations from the rest of the team for speaking up! :-S

Any similar stories of emails you REALLY shouldn’t have sent?

Good punt…I’m not so sure I could have thought fast enough to pull that off. I can’t say I’ve ever had one of those moments with email, but I have put my foot in my mouth plenty of times. So often in fact, nothing specific comes to mind at the moment. :/

Nothing email-related springs to mind, but I can’t be the only person to send a text message to the person it’s about, rather than the person to whom it was intended…

That’s how I got together with my husband! I sent a text saying ‘I think he fancies me’ to him directly rather than a friend!!

It’s not work related, but I emailed the link to the wrong photo to someone in December or so. A copy/paste fail. That was… erhm. A bit bad. Spoiled the surprise, nothing too serious.

I live in constant fear of those “O FUCK” moments.

Why does this always seem to be the case?? I’ve had 3 jobs where it was like that. Now I sort of manage 3 people and I KNOW they hate me in the same way (even though all I do is tell them when and where they should be FFS, it’s my job lol) and yet they like the guy who’s above me (who I don’t like!). Argh, I’ve turned into something I used to hate!!

You’re more like me than I am.

I accidentally sent something lewd and quite explicit to the wrong girl. Fortunately it was the other girl I’m seeing, so it was alright.

I’ve only done this once. Years ago, a guy I worked with was having a bit of a hissy fit. I meant to write an email saying “Rob’s not happy” to a friend, but sent it to him instead.

    Boring.

Cappsy’s post in that thread about emails on G&T was really boring, wasn’t it?

I was once having a complete mental block over an ex-girlfriend’s surname. Eventually I gave up trying to remember and decided to text my friend something along the lines of “Hey Dude. This is nuts, but I can’t remember ****’s surname”.

…Which I then sent to her by mistake.

    FAIL
