EITHER THAT OR HE FORGOT TO ERASE THIS TEXT. IF I’M HONEST, I THINK HE JUST FORGOT. Thought it’d be a good idea to make a thread devoted to creative projects themed around the show. I’ll start with a video I tweeted not long after TPL that Doug himself gave a like (fuck you, I win G&T) where I tried to replicate the grayscale effect as originally envisioned. Then we have an incredibly stupid parody of Remastered from a couple years back: And finally for now, a CG Starbug fly-by I put together a decade ago (not my model): I’m not crazy about the lens flares but I got the lighting pretty good in a way I’ve never since been able to replicate. Always wondered about that sticky out leg bit at the back, but totally makes sense as a scoop/tether thing. Here’s one I put together for the newer design, but just focused on propulsion system. May 8, 2026 at 9:50 pm #319966 Frank SmeghammerParticipant I have a great liking for the word “ramscoop”. I don’t know why, it just sounds fun to say. So definitely label up the ramscoop May 9, 2026 at 2:53 am #319976 TechnopeasantParticipant May 9, 2026 at 7:23 am #319985 Quinn: Clochebusters World ChampionParticipant That’s cool! It’s this docking clamp isn’t it? May 9, 2026 at 8:01 am #319990 DaveParticipant That’s what I assumed. May 9, 2026 at 8:05 am #319992 MoonlightParticipant I feel like there is no point in the show beyond IV where they wouldn’t just wander into the DNA ship on Starbug. May 10, 2026 at 2:29 pm #320023 gerrydelaselParticipant It’s this docking clamp isn’t it? Assuming the DNA ship is ‘normal sized’, that thing we see in the clip would be a tiny blip on the outline of Red Dwarf. I figure the huge arm is for clamping and drilling into asteroids, it makes sense to me that that is how Red Dwarf actually does its mining, since it doesn’t look suitably designed to actually land on the surface of any planet. Here’s one I put together for the newer design, but just focused on propulsion system. Very cool! I wish I could do 3D like that. I guess that’s why the crew sing “Red Dwarf? Heck! It’s more engine than deck!” I have a great liking for the word “ramscoop”. You’re right, I totally forgot that’s what it is called! Can anyone remember references to large interior spaces/equipment other than ‘the diesel decks”? I remember the observation dome but that’s tiny. Red Dwarf isn’t designed to land or anything. I think the intention is that the miners go down to planets/moons/asteroids to mine, and then bring the rock back. That’s how it’s described in the books, that’s what things like Blue Midget and Starbug are for. May 10, 2026 at 4:39 pm #320029 DaveParticipant Or in the case of VIII-era pencil-Dwarf, it has asteroid bays for them to mine. May 14, 2026 at 12:53 pm #320288 gerrydelaselParticipant I’m more or less satisfied May 14, 2026 at 2:15 pm #320293 DaveParticipant “Unplanned modification” is good. May 17, 2026 at 8:11 pm #320516 Professor FlibbleParticipant Couple of years ago, I had a go at doing some alternative DVD covers with series-accurate fonts and logos. Tried to keep as close as possible to the DVDs’ colour choices with the space backgrounds, and wanted to put all the cast on the cover rather than just Rimmer and Lister. Here’s Series IV. May 17, 2026 at 8:14 pm #320518 Professor FlibbleParticipant Series V. If I did them now, I’d probably put Red Dwarf, Starbug etc in the background. May 17, 2026 at 8:26 pm #320523 Professor FlibbleParticipant Series VI. Merging the bannister from the Gunmen photo with the space background was probably the trickiest thing to do here. May 17, 2026 at 8:28 pm #320525 Professor FlibbleParticipant Series VII. Times New Roman. Ugh. Never ended up making any more. I mean they’re not particularly impressive and I’d probably do them differently now. May 17, 2026 at 8:36 pm #320529 MoonlightParticipant I like these but the Series IV/V/VI text is visibly off-center and it’s giving me a brain aneurysm. May 17, 2026 at 8:39 pm #320531 UnrumbleParticipant Don’t recall seeing this one before. The huggy, chumminess is quite weird and out of character, like Chris is attempting to look. Rimmer-y, and the rest are just the actors posing for a photo while happening to be in costume. May 17, 2026 at 8:40 pm #320532 DaveParticipant I quite like those, all very plausible. Rimmer-y, and the rest are just the actors posing for a photo while happening to be in costume. Yeah, it’s not the best. Considered using the one in the cockpit but I didn’t because of Rimmer’s red outfit and Kochanski’s blue uniform. Sci-fi merchandise brochure?) and stuck it on the spine of my Series VIII off-airs VHS in 1999 to annoy Moonlight in the future. May 17, 2026 at 8:44 pm #320537 Professor FlibbleParticipant I quite like those, all very plausible. Cheers! Honestly, I’m way too nostalgic for the original DVD releases to think the covers really need replacing, but these are a sort of “what if 2 Entertain starred releasing Red Dwarf on DVD just a couple years later?” May 17, 2026 at 8:53 pm #320546 Quinn: Clochebusters World ChampionParticipant Don’t recall seeing this one before. I suspect its a promo shot for Red Dwarf night May 17, 2026 at 9:12 pm #320555 Professor FlibbleParticipant May 17, 2026 at 9:16 pm #320557 Professor FlibbleParticipant Yeah, I see what Moonlight means. The app I use doesn’t have one of those features when you move photos around and you can centre align them, and I think the certifica… Oh. Ah. Shit. Just realised I got the certificates wrong, too! Was just a bit of fun, tbh. May 17, 2026 at 9:17 pm #320559 WarbodogParticipant Professor Flibble can stay. There was so much focus on AI Lister, I forgot all about Kochanski and the rest. Isn’t it just one of the Dave era posters now? I haven’t checked in a while. May 17, 2026 at 9:57 pm #320570 PodeyParticipant Don’t recall seeing this one before. I believe it’s a “cast” photo rather than in-character as I had a postcard of it with all of their autographs printed on. Any idea where I would have gotten this from?! It would have been around the time VII aired. I presume maybe the fan club but not sure? May 17, 2026 at 9:59 pm #320572 DaveParticipant Professor Flibble can stay. Yeah this is superb. You might be right about the fan club, or maybe it came with one of the calendars? Anybody else have a mini cardboard cutout standee thing of Rimmer in his Enlightenment uniform? Pretty sure that came with a calendar one year. May 17, 2026 at 10:23 pm #320577 PodeyParticipant My money is on it being sent out from the fan club. I thought maybe there was an outside chance of it being via Radio Times because I had written to them requesting the autograph of a cover star before and been sent a printed one but clem also having had it makes that less likely, I think. Whilst we’re on the subject of weird promo shots, I’ve always been confused by this series VII one featuring Rimmer wearing his red uniform, which he doesn’t wear that series. May 17, 2026 at 10:26 pm #320579 TechnopeasantParticipant Well, just shift the RGB values and you’re golden. Yeah, that’s the one I was talking about earlier. I mean, I suppose I could’ve recoloured it. Kochanski wearing her flashback uniform is a bit odd, too. May 17, 2026 at 10:34 pm #320581 Professor FlibbleParticipant Not perfect, but gave it a shot. May 18, 2026 at 12:57 am #320598 TechnopeasantParticipant When did they pick up an air hostess? Etc, etc, etc… Rimmer’s head looks oddly large but that wasn’t your doing. May 18, 2026 at 2:53 am #320602 clemParticipant Does Cat wear that outfit in any episode? May 18, 2026 at 3:11 am #320604 Professor FlibbleParticipant Does Cat wear that outfit in any episode? I’m fairly sure he wears it in Tikka to Ride. May 18, 2026 at 3:17 am #320605 Professor FlibbleParticipant Yeah, Tikka to Ride. Doesn’t appear to wear it in any other episode. May 18, 2026 at 7:04 am #320609 PodeyParticipant Not perfect, but gave it a shot. Good job! I should note that it’s not the inconsistency that bothers me, though, it’s wondering WHY he had to wear the costume that doesn’t appear that series, like what were the real-life circumstances of the blue version presumably not being available. May 18, 2026 at 7:06 am #320610 PodeyParticipant Oh god. I think I’ve just figured it out. Chloe isn’t wearing her standard red. Is it because they didn’t want two characters wearing blue?! May 18, 2026 at 7:34 am #320611 UnrumbleParticipant I believe it’s a “cast” photo rather than in-character as I had a postcard of it with all of their autographs printed on. Sure, that’s what I meant to imply. My point was more that it would’ve been quite incongruous had it been used on an actual DVD/video, probably didn’t word it quite right Author Replies Viewing 41 replies - 101 through 141 (of 141 total) 1 2 3 Scroll to top • Scroll to Recent Forum Posts You must be logged in to reply to this topic.
