The G&T Spoiler Policy

Let me see, let me see!

If you do not read this, Norman Lovett will come round your house in the dead of night and touch your face and legs without your permission.

As the audience filming for Red Dwarf X is now well and truly upon us, I suppose we better tackle the thorny issue of spoiler policy. This is what we’ve come up with, with not an inconsiderable amount of effort.

Editorial

The Ganymede & Titan writers will not reveal any spoilers on the site at any time. This includes the main story and developments of any episode including any actors that have not yet been officially confirmed. We will, however, be discussing the sets (unless there’s a particular set that would spoil a part of the story), episode titles (again, so long as the title isn’t something like “LISTER FINALLY FUCKS KOCHANSKI” or, “DIBBLEYWORLD”), the performance of the main cast, the general quality of the writing and basically anything even remotely tangential that will only serve to inform you of our opinions and increase your anticipation of the series.

Forum and Comments

This is ever so slightly more complicated. We want to adhere to wishes of Grant Naylor Productions and not reveal any spoilers on the site but we also understand the desire to either discuss plot details with people who were also at the recording or read entire plots verbatim. We would suggest that commenters adhere to our own editorial policy and keep plot spoilers away from the comments or forum. An ideal solution for people on G&T who want to discuss plots and other spoilery details would be to link to other sites that are more geared to this sort of mass spoiler discussion, keeping the hot stuff away from G&T.

Obviously discussion of the recordings is positively encouraged but the bottom line is we ask that the utmost respect is shown to the vast majority of fans who do not want any plot details spoiled. Use common sense, show respect and we will promise to do the same when moderating your comments.

Now that that’s out of way, we hope everyone has fun in what is sure to be the most insane and exciting few weeks in recent Red Dwarf memory (and, yes, I’m even including the excitement surrounding the release of Red Christmas).

Yes but this episode is in the parallel universe where Lister didn’t fuck Kochanski, he fucked Hollister.

Two posts and the spoiler policy has already been broken. For shame.

Why not simply a spoiler thread and a non-spoiler thread?

Because we have a no spoiler policy.

You’ll discuss sets so long as they dont particularly spoil plots. And models and costumes the same yeah?

Rest read and noted, will be hard, but it’s understandable reasoning.

Do you have a smeg policy? Will you be confirming if smeg appears, how often, and whether it’s in 3D now. Are new variations on smeg considered a spoiler?

Have you guys considered adding a spoiler tag? The Penny Arcade Forums lets you wrap something in such a tag
like this
, and it hides the text, presenting a button that toggles its display.

Enjoy it, people. ;)

>Have you guys considered adding a spoiler tag?

Surely the thing about having spoiler tags is that they’re providing a means for people to actually… post spoilers?

Whereas, unless I’ve read it wrongly, G&T’s policy appears to be that they’re (and gosh, that feels strange to type) adhering to GNP’s wishes, as stated on the ticket that audience members have been sent, not to reveal spoilers at all?

Oh yeah but have they considered just having a place where you could put spoilers and special tags for spoilers and maybe a rotating display on the front page for Spoiler of the Moment and also a compendium of all spoilers revealed so far and maybe make the spoilers blink?

I mean to say I either didn’t read the article before I posted, or I ignored it totally.

Well, I can tell you that somebody has already spoilered, sort of. Somebody in the audience (close to the front) posted a picture of the bunkroom set.

Not a massive spoiler but it is disappointing to see a person who got their ticket over thousands of other Dwarf fans and is in the audience is disobeying GNP’s wishes. I won’t obviously post the picture here either, you can go and look for it if you really want to see it.

Blisschick's picture

Blisschick / Sat, 2011-12-17 01:15 / #

I was thinking earlier, and I guess the question has been answered, but how long do the recording sessions usually go on for? Is four hours about average?

Carlito's picture

Carlito / Sat, 2011-12-17 19:59 / #

The only people likely to go online and actively hunt down spoilers are the diehard fans. Even if I knew the complete plot of every episode of RDX, there is still no way in hell I would miss a moment of them on broadcast. If I’ve spoiled my own enjoyment of any twists and turns, on my head be it.

Still, for the record (after my previous opinion), I am all for the no spoiler policy. If the deets were out there online, I probably would struggle to resist for a whole year.

Jonsmad's picture

Jonsmad / Sat, 2011-12-17 20:54 / #

“a whole year” Noooooooooooooo dont say it like that. It’s nearly 2012. And autumn starts in september. Cant we count the wait for broadcast in ice ages?

ori-STUDFARM's picture

ori-STUDFARM / Sat, 2011-12-17 22:24 / #

Considering that any future live audiences could depend on the ammount of spoilerage (is that a word?)that gets out about RDX onto the internet, I’ve now made a decision over on our forum about RDX spoilers. It read:-

Ask yourself “Would Doug Naylor want me to post this?”. If the answer is no, don’t post it.

Okay, it’s a bit shorter than your policy, but we don’t get people sticking around long enough to read something like that…..and most of them are just selling cheap medications….

Jo TORDFC / Sun, 2011-12-18 18:39 / #

>Have you guys considered adding a spoiler tag?

It says on the tickets:

Do not reveal the story plot lines, even with spoiler warning!

>The only people likely to go online and actively hunt down spoilers are the diehard fans.

Interesting that you say that, because I’d have thought that it’d more likely be the casual fans.

It is disappointing that someone felt the need to do that, especially since Doug came out and specifically asked everyone not to do anything like that! Mind you, I’ve had a look around for this and not been able to find it… is it possible they removed it?

Just checked and it is still there. It has been viewed 100 times so it isn’t like it has been spread that far around the internet.

I saw loads of people taking pictures so i’m not that suprised. Some were quite openly doing it at the end in front of the sets. Before filming started I heard someone ask one of the staff if they could take a picture of the set to which the answer they were given was ‘as long as you don’t tweet it, yes’. It’s amazing there aren’t more out there.

Mr-Stabby's picture

Mr-Stabby / Sun, 2011-12-18 21:54 / #

There was a couple of pictures posted on ‘Gallifrey Base’ and i asked the mods to delete them. Call me a scrooge if you want, but if like has been implied, Dave were resistant to having an audience because of this very thing, then any spoilers could jeopardise any future series. So i’m happy to stop people spoiling for that very reason.

I can’t see why any Red Dwarf fan, having been asked very nicely not to do something by Doug Naylor himself, would want to deliberately go against the wishes of the creator of their favourite show.

Real shame. I would love to have had my picture taken in front of the sets and I would NOT have posted them online. However, I’m guessing next week, instead of “…as long as you don’t post them on Twitter”, it’ll be “No! Piss off!”.

And who could blame them. Oh well!
