John’s Newsround – 18/2/06 News Posted by John Hoare on 18th February 2006, 22:47 Ian: “I had a poo earlier that looked like haggis. Plus, GREEN AND YELLOW VOMIT.” Oh dear. I’ll do it myself, then: VIII INTERNATIONAL COVERS: I still think the R1 covers are rubbish. Could the picture and logo be any bigger? The R2 ones are far more tasteful. The R4 ones were fine until they introduced that hideous classification labelling. More of which here. MAID MARIAN: We reported on this a bit ago, but check out the large image of the cover, and a glimpse of the booklet. And also the news that the second series is also planned for release, provisionally in July. Hooray! Of course, the real question is – have Eureka got a decent ident yet? RED DWARF USA STORE: Is closing. Hurry over there for UNMISSABLE OFFERS SAVE $$$$ R@RE ITEMS. According to Andrew on the Webboard, the people running the RD USA store just decided they didn’t want to do it any more. GNP (Sob!) seem to have decided to make this a positive thing, and are planning the launch of one big international store later in the year. Excellent. Any chance of some more t-shirts? Speaking of Andrew: Ho ho! There’s also news that RDSUK have cheap deals going on for VIII. Once you take into account £2.99 for P&P, the plain VIII DVD costs £15.38 compared to Play‘s £15.99; however, the skutter giftset costs £19.49 compared to Play’s £16.99. Bearing in mind that absolutely nobody reading this is going to want to go for the standard release, I think you can guess what I’m going to recommend you go for. FRENCH II RELEASE: Something we didn’t report on last week – the French II release. Interestingly, unlike their release of Series 1, they’re not going with the raw model footage on the extras. Which was actually the highlight for me of the R2 Series 1 release. Ah well… CAST STUFF: There’s also some cast stuff. Evil Aliens looks this: fantastic. Interestingly, ContentFilm (in its former guise of Winchester Entertainment), were at one point involved with the Dwarf movie. Well, I say interestingly, but I actually mean tediously and irrelevantly. That’s yer lot. For anyone wondering where the revamped Noise To Signal is – it’s nearly ready. Just sorting out a few technical difficulties. We’ve got lots of content just ready to be published… And finally:whilst Maid Marian’s songs are indeed excellent, do they beat this?
“21) In one sentence, summarize the plot of Red Dwarf: The Movie. No. “ Oh come on! Well, I suppose ‘no’ pretty much sums it up seeing as the project is a big ‘no’ at the moment. I wish I had a few billion to throw the way of Red Dwarf Films Ltd (it if still exists.)
>FRENCH II RELEASE: Something we didn’t report on last week – the French II release. Am I the only one sad enough to notice that the cover image is NOT Blue Midget, but a blue version of Red Dwarf?
>I still think the R1 covers are rubbish. I like them…I’ve always thought the characters were more important to the show than the “spaciness” of it, so why not give them a bigger role on the box? Austin likes them, too. We’re both Americans. You hate them. You’re British. You don’t get the big pictures. Ergo…Ellard (or whomever) made a good choice. I’m done reasoning for the day. Wake me when the flu is gone.
> Am I the only one sad enough to notice that the cover image is NOT Blue Midget, but a blue version of Red Dwarf? No, you’re not. But unlike me, you ARE sad enough to want to tell everybody after you realised that it was a blue Red Dwarf. So congratulations.
>Austin likes them, too. I’ve liked all the other ones, but I’m afraid this latest cover hasn’t impressed me. I don’t like both characters being in one corner. I don’t know, maybe it will grow on me.

>I’ve liked all the other ones, but I’m afraid this latest cover hasn’t impressed me. Next time I give you an opinion Austin, you are to STICK WITH IT.
I have to admit, as a North American I actually prefer the Region 1 covers to the Region 2 and not just the covers; I really like the character pictures on the disks and the card sets as an overall package as well. Oddly enough, the one time I am slightly concerned about the look of the cover is for VIII. This series just has too many bloody numerals crammed in and all that silver does look a bit garish in contrast to the orange. Won’t stop me from buying the skutter gift set though…
Normal service (ie poor) on this site will resume tonight. Along with a nice relaunch of NTS, hopefully…
