Lister’s Coming Home… News Posted by John Hoare on 23rd March 2009, 18:19 Thanks to EvoFan in the forums, who has pointed us towards this potentially spoileriffic link: http://www.listerscominghome.co.uk/ More soon – although frankly, the phrase “Geek Chase Part Deux” springs to mind… ADDITIONAL (6:48pm): Yeah, erm, you might want to click around for a bit. Anyone want a SEVEN MINUTE PREVIEW DOCUMENTARY WITH FUCKING CLIPS FROM THE FUCKING SHOW, anyone?
*shrugs* Be like that then. For the “with brains” members of the community: But seriously, a lot of work has gone into this… it looks like there is an update every day, or at least tomorrow as well.
It is. There’s a massive behind the scenes video I’m watching – it’s been going on for about 8 minutes so far. Lots of interviews with the cast and some episode footage. It looks great.
Wow. Absolutely loving this new Geek Chase! We have a Russian(?) hologram… …And that ‘through-the-glass’ shot was pure Blade Runner.
Holy snapping crap. Expectations utterly shattered. Damn you, P2P I was just about to say that about the window scene, I think that’s my favorite bit.
***HIDDEN CONTEXTS*** Ok, guys I have unlocked something off the Space Corps Directive site! When you visit the http://www.scanningjupiter.co.uk/ site, click the “LINKS” link and the “http://www.ouroboroscrate.co.uk/” link! This will display a “site locked” message. Keep watchin and you will notice that red dotes appear in the background in a sequence. KEEP THIS WINDOW OPEN. Ok, next part. Watch the kryten video and submit the code to open the Space Corps Directive page. You will notice that there are 8 green buttons that make a noice when you click them. I click one them an thought “hang on, they sound like the RD theme tune” So I messed about trying to get it right, failed tho ha. Now go back to the http://www.ouroboroscrate.co.uk window you kept open and the red dots give you the sequence to the theme tune. write these down and play it on the Space Corps Directive page. There it will display a message saying “theme tune unlocked, you have unlocked a hidden piece of content” Bit long I know, and I dont know how I figured it out ha
>Damn you, P2P I was just about to say that about the window scene, I think that?s my favorite bit. :-)) Actually, that whole scene looks distinctly Blade Runner-esque – the Chinese lanterns, crowded street, etc…
>There it will display a message saying ?theme tune unlocked, you have unlocked a hidden piece of content? How do you get the theme tune up, I can’t find it after the message is played.
Yeah the code for the extra pictures is: 1+2 3 5+6+8 n/a n/a 4+7 10 9 The numbers are the order in which you press the buttons – I’ve tried to visually represent the series of eight keys.
On the “hidden piece of content” – what is this at the bottom left of the picture? http://www.series4000mechanoidreturningforrepairs.co.uk/series4000/live/on_set/DSC_2263.jpg Is this the script? Is Lister writing his own future adventures? Edit: Dammit, too slow!
Did anyone else get this link mailed to them? I just about fell out my chair when I opened the email…
I’ve just come. FFS I’ve just come!! Did I tell you I’ve JUST COME?!?!! Sophie Winkelman with that accent! DRAMATIC SCENES!! Rimmer on the escalator referencing Saturday evening entertainment! Craig doing stunts!! Doug directing!! The boys from the Dwarf being the boys from the Dwarf!!! The ROVERS!!!! The actual footage looks brilliant. Oh boy we’re in for a treat.
Hi everyone, just to let you know, if you can’t access the video, I’ve put it up on youtube for you to watch in all its little chunks. http://www.youtube.com/timetravelcake videos still pending, so just keep clicking till they appear really.
Btw if Lister IS writing the script there then that shows how close to the League of Gentlemen idea this really is.
Wow busy thread, game reactions & video footage reactions. Looks like I need to go back and play some more skim reading the comments. But just totally ace fun so far. I love the indian restraunt music on the 1st site. Whats with the web cam useage though? Dont get it? Bullet’s with names on, they should have listened to baldrick’s theory on that score. How fucking lucky was that ace rimmer T-shirt wearing fan. Katerina has nice tribute links to Natalina Pushkin from Holoship, I’m liking this very much, I’m liking her character all the more and we havnt really seen her in action yet. Andrew already pointed out that carbug had 4 seats Mr flibble.
>if you can?t access the video, I?ve put it up on youtube Thank you, time travel cake. I probably won’t be interested in the full explorational experience, so this is a big help.
>Btw if Lister IS writing the script there then that shows how close to the League of Gentlemen idea this really is. Man, I remember being so disappointed when I saw LoG’s Apocalypse. In parts excellent, but overall…
Okay, I get the ARG, I get Lister trying to edit the script for metafictional reasons, what I don’t get is why Red Dwarf onboard screens have creepy haunted house wallpaper. ;)
actually if anyone knows how to upload it at a higher res id appreciate knowing, currently 3 videos are up, 2 left to go, but they’re not that great to look at.
May I just say congratualtions to EvoFan, timetravelcake and everyone who made this newsgasm possible. The speed and efficiency with which this suggests you could totally take CNN in a fight… if the news was red dwarf related.
Just a note – if you have a media player capable of playing FLV files, like VLC, for example, the documentary in its five parts should be hiding in your Temporary Internet Files, or you can grab it from: http://redbee.vo.llnwd.net/o15/reddwarf/reveal/live/mediafiles/part_01.flv http://redbee.vo.llnwd.net/o15/reddwarf/reveal/live/mediafiles/part_02.flv http://redbee.vo.llnwd.net/o15/reddwarf/reveal/live/mediafiles/part_03.flv http://redbee.vo.llnwd.net/o15/reddwarf/reveal/live/mediafiles/part_04.flv http://redbee.vo.llnwd.net/o15/reddwarf/reveal/live/mediafiles/part_05.flv
>May I just say congratualtions to EvoFan, timetravelcake and everyone who made this newsgasm possible. The speed and efficiency with which this suggests you could totally take CNN in a fight? if the news was red dwarf related. More to come tomo ;)
I can’t do the “communication patch” – it crashes Flash. Oh well. I watched the video version instead.
I’ve found the most boring part of it if anyones interested for completisms sake. Under Kryten’s floaty head there is a help box. Click that and it gives you a little video of what you’re supposed to do with the webcam. Am I right in thinking that makes Kryten say ‘hello’ or something instead of ‘oh they must have gone out’ or whatever he says?
Ah ok, so the webcam versions shows Kryten as a hologram on the paper. It wasn’t immediatly obvious was it?
I read this site every day with the intention of never signing up (foolishly thinking I could contain my obsession for RD) but after watching that video, I simply had to sign up to say OMFG NEW RED DWARF!!!1! It looks so much better than I was hoping for (no offence, er, Dave) they all look so happy to be doing it, and they all look better than ever! Especially Chris Barrie who looks hot! Is it April 10th yet??
The scene of them crashing through glass is a direct send up of the moment in Blade Runner where Deckard shoots the naked dancing lady. That documentary was smegtacular. Well excited now!
This is really rather cool, I’m quite impressed. And to boot, this means another source of drip-fed information other than the Dave site. Oh, and the doc kicked arse. Even in the form of a shite flash video you can tell it’s going to look lovely.
Message from Kryten on youtube, doesnt give much away if anything! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n46ROh3C8YU
My God. For the past – what – two hours? – me and my sister have been sat with enormous grins on our faces. We were working out the theme, and were working out the entire theme (we’d got up to ‘fun fun fun’), and got the notes that mattered right, too – she’s gutted, cause the only thing we’d missed was a couple of note #1’s at the beginning. All this is absolutely MARVELLOUS.
OK…anyone on here gonna spill about their involvement with this? Didn’t think so. Not yet at least. If you are actually involved then congratulations, so far you’ve done a fucking good job.
Just noticed it’s actually counting down miles to landing… suspect I am too amused by this. Also do not care.
Unless the number of codes submitted affects the countdown Edit: Which is infact exactly what’s happening. So all we need is another 98,000 people to register codes.
>Or the Balti Belt in Birmingham. Indeed. And me fucking stuck in Holland, where there are no curry houses and at supermarkets you can literally only buy curry sauce in ‘Mild’ or ‘Medium’, I shit you not. Time drive? Anyone?
Now go back to the http://www.ouroboroscrate.co.uk window you kept open and the red dots give you the sequence to the theme tune. write these down and play it on the Space Corps Directive page. There it will display a message saying ?theme tune unlocked, you have unlocked a hidden piece of content? I did all that but nothing happened. I was still able to access the main footage with the code though.
>Edit: Which is infact exactly what?s happening. So all we need is another 98,000 people to register codes. What? No, srsly? No, come on. No.
The dramatic scenes in the clips do a really good job of building anticipation for the specials I think. The scene with Rimmer and Kryten is less successful imo but hopefully that is just down to it being a mediocre selection by whoever put this together rather than being considered a highlight of the shows.
>The scene with Rimmer and Kryten is less successful imo but hopefully that is just down to it being a mediocre selection by whoever put this together rather than being considered a highlight of the shows. I disagree- I think that scene illustrates that the shows won’t just be action driven, but the characters will be able to flex themselves- I think this was the undoing of Series 8, as we saw lots of plot (such as T-Rexes and dancing blue midgets) but little interaction between the main characters. So what’s not to like?
> So what?s not to like? Well as part of the entire show it might work fine but I just consider it to be a strange choice for this teaser. The first reason is that I don`t think that it`s funny or interesting. Others may disagree of course. The second is that, while they are a valid target for derision, surely there are no new criticisms that can be made of Saturday evening shows of that ilk (in that sense it reminded me a little of the cut scene on the Series VIII DVD that mentioned politicians, sprouts and rap music. Though it`s not as bad obviously). Interesting to see that Chris`s interpretation of Rimmer appears to changed a little too. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing as he clearly would have changed over the years.
>The first reason is that I don`t think that it`s funny or interesting. Others may disagree of course. Your call >The second is that, while they are a valid target for derision, surely there are no new criticisms that can be made of Saturday evening shows of that ilk (in that sense it reminded me a little of the cut scene on the Series VIII DVD that mentioned politicians, sprouts and rap music. Though it`s not as bad obviously). Hmm, missing the huge point that a pop at politicians, rap and brussel sprouts is a gag for viewers in Series VIII and has nothing to do with RD, since they are all references that are obsolete 3 million years in deep space (please, I hope no-one ever introduces sprouts to space), whilst a reference to saturday evening shows is relevant here because it is the situation the characters are in on 21C Earth, not just a cheap shot. >Interesting to see that Chris`s interpretation of Rimmer appears to changed a little too. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing as he clearly would have changed over the years Chris had very little character acting to do in Series VII-VIII, there were barely any dialogue driven shows for him to do. Tbh, it reminds me of Rimmer taking Kryten for his driving test, which is great. Imagine you saw this trailer before VIII, and all the action sequences turned out to be running away from T-Rexes. I can’t think of any comparable character dialogue from either VII or VIII
It made me chuckle, largely down to Chris’ delivery. And it’s eerie, but he really IS Rimmer. Completely. Oh, and my money on the “book” thing (that we got the brief clip of with him crying) – it’s the anniversary of Kochanski’s death. It’d explain why he’s seen smiling in the bunkroom photo (which looks like it takes place immediately afterwards, given the way Lister enters and puts the book down on the console in the behind-the-scenes footage), but why he’d still be morose and dressed up beforehand.
I do kind of see the point about the Rimmer – Kryten scene – it’s a bit of a clich? to do the ‘looking back from the future and mocking the present day’ thing. Arguably RD does a lot of that, but this is doing it literally/specifically. But I loved the way Rimmer delivered it.
> What? No, srsly? No, come on. No. Do the maths. I’m not sure if we can enter our codes more than once to boost it along though. Bare in mind that it only sneaked out last night. Once it starts to role the numbers will shoot up.
the music is so epic, and the shot of the bullets with ther names on was just one big ball of wtf this looks so damn exciting, but i dno about the idea of lister writing the script, sounds abit silly
Anybody got anything new today yet? We’ve noticed on the ‘Catnav’ map there’s a bit of earth that’s not fuzzy at the top of the screen, that we couldn’t see yesterday. May just be a glitch, but… Also, the new TV listings mags are out today – check out the ‘next week’ sections – we’ve noticed that RD’s the main thing in What’s on TV (with a cracking picture of the crew we haven’t seen before). Could we be looking at a Radio Times cover for w/c 4th April?
> Could we be looking at a Radio Times cover for w/c 4th April? Doctor Doctor I’ve forgotten what else is on Easter Weekend…
> Doctor Doctor I?ve forgotten what else is on Easter Weekend? And just Who could that be? No as much as Dave isn’t the worst channel on digital, it’s not Radio Times standard… seeing it’s pro-BBC. It’ll be Doctor Who over the Easter Weekend, and a double pager on Dwarf inside probably.
> What Nick said. You know you’re in trouble when you’re agreeing with Nick. In other news, you’re all bastards as I can’t really access video at work and I have no net at home. Bollocks to the lot of yer.
Sure but my point was about the obviousness of the material and not the relevance. I did say that the Series VIII stuff is far worse anyway. > I can?t think of any comparable character dialogue from either VII or VIII Is it character dialogue? Or, good or bad, a throwaway gag? I think that Series VII had a lot of character stuff in even though I`m not that series` biggest fan.
>I do kind of see the point about the Rimmer – Kryten scene – it?s a bit of a clich? to do the ?looking back from the future and mocking the present day? thing. Arguably RD does a lot of that, but this is doing it literally/specifically. Loved it. Reminded me of the Can’t Smeg Won’t Smeg Harvesters-gag.
Ignore who’s saying the lines and concentrate a bit. It isn’t funny. It reminds me of the CiN sketch. Conversely, the stuff with the gun looks promising.
Well, we’re down to 96.999 miles now. When will the new update be? Probably 6pm-ish, if it’s 24hours from us first getting wind of all this.
I’m still apprehensive. There, I said it. The new footage is exciting in the sense that Dwarf is being made again. I haven’t yet been excited in the sense that it will be much good. I mean, I HOPE it will. But…let’s just say I’d rather be proven wrong for thinking I’ll be disappointed, than proven wrong for thinking I’ll love it.

Today’s Radio Times has a Dwarf picture in the “Next Week” bit on the last page, so it’ll definitely be a Dwarf cover next week – that’s always the case as far as I’m aware. (First post, btw – been lurking for a while but had to sign up. It’s all getting very exciting.)
So you’d rather chance be bummed for the entire ride than exicted for at least a part of it? I’m not trying to be rude, it just occurs, if it turns out bad anyway might as well enjoy the hype!
>Today?s Radio Times has a Dwarf picture in the ?Next Week? bit on the last page, so it?ll definitely be a Dwarf cover next week – that?s always the case as far as I?m aware. Cheers, Dee. Does anyone have a scan or know if this page is available online?
> i dno about the idea of lister writing the script, sounds abit silly Four words: Behind The Scenes Photo.
> So you?d rather chance be bummed for the entire ride Given the option, Phil will always go for this one.
> So you?d rather chance be bummed for the entire ride Well, the ride hasn’t started yet. At least not for me. Maybe it’s the fact that I don’t live in a country that will actually get the shows on broadcast, so the countdown is sort of meaningless for me. Or maybe it’s just the fact that countdowns in general rarely have an impact on me. (With the exception of the first Futurama movie and the last Thomas Pynchon novel, “launch day” has never been a particular source of excitement.) The ride for me won’t begin until I can actually have a chance of seeing the damn things. Until then, no, I’m not bummed, but I’m certainly far from bursting with excitement. I’m more concerned with how much I’ll enjoy the episodes a few years after they’ve aired than how much I’ll enjoy looking forward to them.
Cheers Seb. How’s this: http://i672.photobucket.com/albums/vv81/p2p_productions/RadioTimesEnhanced.jpg width=570>
What’s on Tv – it’s more interested in soaps mainly, but it’s only 47p, and like I said, there’s a cracking group photo on the ‘next week’ page near the back.
Slightly better quality Radio Times ad. Cheers to Rad for uploading. http://i672.photobucket.com/albums/vv81/p2p_productions/RadioTimesEnhanced2.jpg width=570> …Also, was Carbug ever formally announced as ‘Carbug’, or was it just a lucky guess that everyone started calling it that? Well, lucky in so far that it’s a slightly obvious moniker, anyway.
Can I just ask – has anyone written (or does anyone plan to write) to the Great Portland Street address given on the Scanning Jupiter website? Or is it just me?…
Wow that is a well put together little site. I take it that it’s a fan creation and not an officially endorsed Dave mini site? Lister’s coming home, he’s coming home, he’s coming home, he’s coming, Lister’s coming home! Three smegs on a shirt! Danny John Jules still gleaming!
I take it that it?s a fan creation and not an officially endorsed Dave mini site? You take it unbelievably wrongly.
>I take it that it?s a fan creation and not an officially endorsed Dave mini site? Yeah, we did it. We also made our own fake making of documentary, and re-enacted scenes from the show to insert into it. That’s me playing Doug, obviously, and Cappsy as Sophie Winkelman.
Actually, I think only the last one is a new picture, I think the other three have been around before. Anyone noticed that the date for this data on Space Corps website is 31.3.09? I wonder if this website was only supposed to come live next Tuesday?
In this bit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCH5kiqOP78 what’s going on with Kryten’s costume? It kinda looks as though his head is meant to be on backwards, but I can’t imagine they’d do that so unsophisticatedly, like in Spaceballs.
Got an email from TOS with the listerscominghome url in it, so this site was there ready for emails to highlight it, so it’s not been found super early I dont think. And perhaps each time 1,500 unique new registerd codes go in, a new peice of earth appears on the cat nav, slowly and surely. Cus there are 2 bits now.
The bit on the escalator genuinely made me laugh. It feels right. Chris’s delivery IS Rimmer. The blade-runner esque sequence I have to keep replaying. I’d pretty much given up hope of Dwarf ever looking that good again.
> And perhaps each time 1,500 unique new registerd codes go in, a new peice of earth appears on the cat nav, slowly and surely. Cus there are 2 bits now. No, it said “next data unlock 24-03” last night. The only number-of-codes dependent thing seems to be set for when the mileometer hits 0.
It appears that there is another update tomorrow, so it’s a daily thing… I love the way that all the teasers so far have given very little away in terms of ‘actual’ storyline, but everyone participating feels that they are closer to discovering something. Personally, I think that Dave should be highly commended for the way they’re are pushing Dwarf considering it’s their first ‘scripted’ show… We’re used to GNP coming up trumps. but this is all new to ‘DAVE’ so hats off to them……..what a team..
Anybody else thinking that maybe the update tomorrow at noon on Dave’s website will just be the video we’ve all found and watched of the ‘making of’ interviews?
Well, finally got to watch it. My opinions basically echo the more positive ones already stated. The Rimmer line isn’t particularly funny, but then it strikes me that it isn’t really meant to be a gag as such, just a nice conversation. HOwever: The bullets with the names on and “Cabin Crew, prepare for landing” made me sex wee.
> Anybody else thinking that maybe the update tomorrow at noon on Dave?s website will just be the video we?ve all found and watched of the ?making of? interviews? I did think that – I hope not – but going from the still of Chris Barrie on Coronation Street on the Dave site, I don’t think it will be.
I don’t think the escalator scene was supposed to be a “comedy highlight”. However, even if it’s not piss-your-pants funny, the actual (non-gag) dialogue in Red Dwarf has rarely been piss-your-pants funny, it just has an incredible attention-to-character, comedy-charismatic quality to it. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve laughed myself hoarse at the show plenty of times, but when it’s simply banter between characters of the kind seen on the escalator, it’s more of a “very enjoyable viewing experience with a smile on my face”, than creaming ’em with laughter. That was a very Rimmer-like line… not the admittedly belated and wafer-thin satire of it, but the gleefully relating it to Kryten as a “freak”. That was more like Rimmer than any line/delivery in VIII. Maybe even a lot of VII. And it made me very happy.
The pomposity and voyeuristic arrogance of Rimmer’s dismissal of 21st century people’s limited scope of entertainment, his description of ‘X Factor’-like contestants as “freaks” and the casual insulting of Kryten as a freak himself…. that’s RIMMER. Man… every day it re-occurs to me that we’re ACTUALLY getting new Red Dwarf and that it’s looking very very positive at the moment. I have a feeling that this episode won’t be propping up the bottom of the Top 55 episodes list, alongside VII and VIII.
By the way, wonder what the reaction would be if when the episode airs, the title ‘BACK TO EARTH’ flashes up on the screen, fades away, and is replaced with the words ‘Written By ROB GRANT & DOUG NAYLOR’. Won’t happen I know, but wouldn’t that be one of the biggest swerves of all huh!?
I particularly enjoyed the way he said “your FACE, Kryten”. It came across particularly funny to me, probably the sort of casually vitriolic way it was delivered.
The point of showing that Rimmer line is to let us know that they’re in our time. Btw I’m typing this with one hand.
On the front page where it says “X new comments,” can we also have an indication of how many of those are Carl talking to himself?
>”By the way, wonder what the reaction would be if when the episode airs, the title ?BACK TO EARTH? flashes up on the screen, fades away, and is replaced with the words ?Written By ROB GRANT & DOUG NAYLOR?. Won?t happen I know, but wouldn?t that be one of the biggest swerves of all huh!?” Actually I’m kind of expecting it – they were certainly very happy to spend time together & promote the Bodysnatcher DVD which is around the time that this project was probably first starting to come together. Even if Rob doesn’t get any writing credit I’m sure Doug will have at least emailed him the script for a once over?
We?re used to GNP coming up trumps. but this is all new to ?DAVE? so hats off to them??..what a team.. Dave… what a guy!
>On the front page where it says ?X new comments,? can we also have an indication >of how many of those are Carl talking to himself? ^ this made me do lolz :oD
Actually I?m kind of expecting it – they were certainly very happy to spend time together & promote the Bodysnatcher DVD which is around the time that this project was probably first starting to come together. Even if Rob doesn?t get any writing credit I?m sure Doug will have at least emailed him the script for a once over? Surely Rob’s been pretty clear on not wanting to be involved with Dwarf anymore, at least in a writing capacity? Don’t get me wrong, I would dearly LOVE it to happen, but I think this will be a Doug solo script. I just really hope it’s funny, and not just funny but great Dwarf funny (not Series VIII funny).
> Surely Rob?s been pretty clear on not wanting to be involved with Dwarf anymore, at least in a writing capacity? Not really. He finished off the `Bodysnatcher` script and has said that he would like to write another Dwarf novel at some point. I agree that it is extremely unlikely that he is involved with the specials though.
Dave have put a link on the front page to the listerscominghome site, under the heading ‘Desperately Seeking Kryten’.
That ‘Desperately Seeking Kryten’ piece aside (which is just a link, yeah?), there doesn’t appear to be anything new on Dave. After the treats we’ve had the past couple of days, it seems churlish to grumble, but they promised “exclusive video reports from the set of Red Dwarf starting from Wed 25th March at noon.” Been and gone, sorry…
Chris Barrie goes all Jeremy Clarkson, in a minute and a half review of Carbug – “0-60 in three weeks.” I’ll expect an amusing G&T headline soon.
http://dave.uktv.co.uk/video/red-dwarf/red-dwarf-exclusive-videos-chris-barrie-carbug/ Where would you be without me?
I just want to say that next Wednesday is April Fools, so just be cautious if Dave tries to pull anything funny. :)
> Si – WHY DO YOU ALWAYS SPOT THESE THINGS BEFORE ME? Because I have no life, and am sat with the laptop, continuously clicking on links from about 20 minutes before they’re due to go live.
> Even if Rob doesn?t get any writing credit I?m sure Doug will have at least emailed him the script for a once over? This made me smile both outwards and within.
Highly unlikely. I could be wrong, but Rob’s (new) involvement in Bodysnatcher didn’t extend as far as sitting down and rewriting the script with Doug, but rather the two exchanging drafts until satisfied. Call me up on it if I’m wrong, though.
>I?d rather the odd typo and double post than someone going postal and destroying conversations. I’ve looked and looked, and I have NO idea what this is in reply to. Or are you just randomly pontificating, lad?
> I?ve looked and looked, and I have NO idea what this is in reply to. Or are you just randomly pontificating, lad? Erm… I’m confused. Maybe I posted in the wrong thread, but it was hummingbird or someone bemoaning the lack of delete function.
